WHAT:                
Competitive eaters from across the country are training their stomachs for New York-New York Hotel & Casino’s 20th annual qualifying event for the 101st Annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, New York.
 
The main event will take place Saturday, April 22 at 3 p.m. as trained male and female competitors gather at Brooklyn Bridge at New York-New York to compete for the title “Nevada Hot Dog Eating Champion.” The two contest winners will advance to the July 4 finals in New York.
 

A special employee contest will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the service men and women contest at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest has occurred every July 4 in Coney Island since 1916, the year Nathan Handwerker opened the legendary restaurant. Major League Eating, the governing body of all stomach-centric sports, sanctions the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Circuit, ensuring the contests are judged professionally and that safety standards are in place at each event.

Male and Female Winners Advance to Coney Island Event this Summer

WHAT:
Competitive eaters from across the region are building their appetites and training their stomachs for New York-New York Hotel & Casino’s 17th annual qualifying event for the 99th Annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, N.Y.

The first stop on this year’s national qualifying tour route is Saturday, April 26 at 3 p.m. on New York-New York’s brand new Strip-side plaza. During the main event, male and female winners will be crowned “Nevada Hot Dog Eating Champions” earning the right to represent Las Vegas in the July 4 finals. A special employee contest along with a “Heroes” competition for charity will begin at 1 p.m.

In addition to Las Vegas, regional qualifying competitions will also take place in several cities around the U.S.

New York-New York Hotel & Casino is turning up the flavor on its dynamic new plaza experience with the addition of fan-favorite restaurants Tom’s Urban  and Shake Shack, opening December 2014.

The restaurants will take the space currently occupied by The Sporting House (closing June 3), and join recently opened retail outlets Swatch, Stupidiotic, I Love NYNY and Starbucks, as well as Hershey’s Chocolate World, which is opening this spring. The plaza is anchored by the property’s famed Brooklyn Bridge.

“There has never been a more exciting time at New York-New York,” said Cynthia Kiser Murphey, the hotel’s president and COO.  “With the opening of our new plaza, we have created an engaging pedestrian environment with the striking backdrop of the New York-New York skyline and know that Tom’s Urban and Shake Shack will bring the fun experience and fantastic flavors our guests love.”

Boasting patios overlooking both MGM Resorts International’s upcoming park and entertainment district as well as New York-New York’s iconic Brooklyn Bridge, Shake Shack will introduce its highly anticipated first West Coast Location.

Let’s start by introducing the mastermind behind the concept.  Tom Ryan.  Recognized by Gourmet Magazine as one of the “Top 25 Food Entrepreneurs of the Last Quarter Century,” Tom Ryan is the namesake of Tom’s Urban.  He founded the concept with restaurant financier Rick Schaden in 2012.   The two spent a lot of time together traveling to the best “food cities” around to understand the uniqueness of urban cultures, food and lifestyle in America.

On Friday, March 14th, Swatch officially kicked off its residency at New York New York by bringing a “New York State of Mind” to Las Vegas. Swatch kicked off the main event at 5pm with live music by Brooklyn based DJ, Jonny Santos. Engaging and hyping up the crowd were the Knucklehead dance team of New York City, breaking dancing to the hottest beats on the strip. The Brooklyn Bridge was transformed into an on strip, outdoor dance party! In-store activities included a magician, juggler, dancing popcorn waiter while the Swatch Minutemen prowled the Brooklyn Bridge engaging with consumers on the strip, flashing the latest and hottest Swatch’s. Swatch served NYC inspired food for over 200 in-store guests with Nathan’s hot dogs and pretzel bites, pizza, cupcakes and popcorn. The evening ended at 8pm with hundreds of engaged fans who entered for the chance to win a variety of prizes that were inclusive of Swatch gear, tickets to the NY NY roller coaster, tickets to Zumanity and a getaway package of a free nights stay at New York New York Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.
