Giant Illuminated Dragon and More Welcomes Lunar New Year


A legendary creature in Chinese mythology and folklore, the dragon is a traditional symbol of power, strength, and good luck. The Forum Shops at Caesars is sharing this fabled creature in a big way by welcoming a 22-ft. long, 6-ft. wide and 12-ft. high dragon to the world-renowned retail destination. Displayed on the Fortuna Terrace near the entrance to The Forum Shops from Caesars Palace casino for the public to enjoy, the massive 950-lb steel-framed dragon is covered in 30,000 red and amber LED lights, many of which flicker, giving the mythical beast a vibrant look and dynamic feel. While the Chinese New Year begins on February 19, 2015 and it is the Year of the Sheep, the traditional Chinese dragon will be on display throughout the Lunar New Year celebratory season. To further mark Chinese New Year, The Forum Shops at Caesars will again welcome students from the Meadows School, who will perform the traditional dragon parade throughout The Forum Shops at Caesars on Thursday, Feb. 19 beginning at 10 a.m. The cast of singers and dancers includes 120 Meadows students – 60 from kindergarten and 60 from fifth grade plus the school’s very special guest, founder and Mayor of Las Vegas Carolyn Goodman.

A number of Forum Shops retailers are also marking the Lunar New Year season with special events and limited-edition products. To celebrate Chinese New Year, British luxury brand Mulberry has created a limited edition version of its best-selling Cara Delevingne Bag. The Mini Cara Delevingne Bag in Poppy Red Quilted Nappa Leather has an exclusive finishing touch: a stamped ram on the leather keeper symbolizing 2015’s Chinese zodiac sign. On Friday, March 14th, Swatch officially kicked off its residency at New York New York by bringing a “New York State of Mind” to Las Vegas. Swatch kicked off the main event at 5pm with live music by Brooklyn based DJ, Jonny Santos. Engaging and hyping up the crowd were the Knucklehead dance team of New York City, breaking dancing to the hottest beats on the strip. The Brooklyn Bridge was transformed into an on strip, outdoor dance party! In-store activities included a magician, juggler, dancing popcorn waiter while the Swatch Minutemen prowled the Brooklyn Bridge engaging with consumers on the strip, flashing the latest and hottest Swatch’s. Swatch served NYC inspired food for over 200 in-store guests with Nathan’s hot dogs and pretzel bites, pizza, cupcakes and popcorn. The evening ended at 8pm with hundreds of engaged fans who entered for the chance to win a variety of prizes that were inclusive of Swatch gear, tickets to the NY NY roller coaster, tickets to Zumanity and a getaway package of a free nights stay at New York New York Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

March 1 Head-Shaving Fundraiser to Benefit Childhood Cancer Research

Make a bold move in the fight against cancer and go bald with New York-New York Hotel & Casino and Nine Fine Irishmen during the fifth annual St. Baldrick’s Day head-shaving event on Saturday, March 1 from noon to 11 p.m. Guests of all ages are invited to enjoy a fun-filled day on the resort’s Brooklyn Bridge and new outdoor plaza with special celebrity guest head-shavers, live music and entertainment, as participants shed their locks in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a national organization funding research for childhood cancer. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Participants interested in shaving their heads for the cause can register online here or register day-of on-site. Group registration also is available for teams and organizations.

 

“The St. Baldrick’s celebration marks one of our favorite days at New York-New York each year. This is an important cause and we’ll continue to fight the fight, working toward a cure,” said Paula Zappia, entertainment director of New York-New York. “We are especially thrilled as this year’s event will be held in our new outdoor plaza and we encourage the Las Vegas community and visitors to join us in making this an amazing gathering.”

 

Kathleen Ruddy, chief executive officer for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, said “We are excited to continue our partnership with New York-New York on this year’s event to help raise awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. These events are vital to raise needed funds, enabling the Foundation to fund the best research projects focused on finding better treatments and cures for all childhood cancers. This year’s St. Baldrick’s Day event will be hosted on New York-New York’s newly introduced outdoor plaza surrounded by fun shops Stupidiotic, Swatch, I Love NYNY and Starbucks. The festivities will include a special appearance by the Desert Skye & Pipe Band to kick off the event; live musical performances by Phoenix, Spazmatics and Sin E Ri Ra on the Brooklyn Bridge; celebrity guest appearances by renowned Las Vegas performers from Jabbawockeez, Jersey Boys, Absinthe, Rock of Ages, Million Dollar Quartet and others; activities including balloon art and face painting; a grand raffle prize; and photo opportunities at the head-shaving booths to commemorate the day.

 

Last year, more than $45,000 was raised for cancer research – this year’s event will continue the momentum with a fundraising goal of $100,000 to benefit St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

The Swatch Group US Announces the First Two Hour Passion Boutiques in the United States

THE SWATCH GROUP US ANNOUNCES THE FIRST TWO HOUR PASSION BOUTIQUES IN THE UNITED STATES

 

The Swatch Group is bringing Hour Passion to New York and Las Vegas. For the first time in the United States, the worlds largest watch manufacturer will be offering collections from all of its mid to high range brands in one convenient location.

Expected to open in late November, the first Hour Passion location within the United States will be a 2,500 square foot space on 34th Street in Manhattan.   • The Atlantis Aquarium: The 50,000-gallon saltwater aquarium features colorful tropical fish and is located in the Roman Great Hall. Of heroic proportion, the hall is 160 feet in diameter and 85 feet high with more than 300 fish. Be sure to watch the aquarists feed them during dives scheduled at 1:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. daily.   • The Atlantis Show: In this same hall guests can see awe-inspiring statues that come to life. The gods unleash their wrath in this animatronics extravaganza of epic proportions.   • The Atlantis Aquarium: The 50,000-gallon saltwater aquarium features colorful tropical fish and is located in the Roman Great Hall.  Of heroic proportion, the hall is 160 feet in diameter and 85 feet high with more than 300 fish.  Be sure to watch the aquarists feed them during dives scheduled at 1:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. daily.  Families can take a complimentary below-the-scenes guided tour of the support facilities Monday through Friday at 3:15 p.m.
  • The Atlantis Show: In this same hall is one of two locations where guests can see awe-inspiring statues that come to life. The gods unleash their wrath in this animatronics extravaganza of epic proportions. Fire, water, smoke, and special effects tell the tale of Atlas, Gadrius and Alia, who struggle to rule the undersea city.  Today, these statues are a “must see” for Las Vegas visitors of all ages.  The Atlantis Show has more than 400 moving parts in each of the characters.  Shows are daily on the hour, beginning at 11:00 a.m..
  • Houdini’s Magic Shop: The magician in all of us comes out at this unique magic shop.  Kids can try out their new bag of tricks.  Shhh… in the back, there’s a special room where Houdini’s magicians train visitors on how to do their own tricks.
  • Kids Kastle: Need a baby or kid-sized signature Elvis white sequined jumpsuit, complete with a gold pair of sunglasses?  Or how about Las Vegas emblazed t-shirt with cartoon characters?  No problem.  Kid’s Kastle carries children’s apparel, infants to size 14, as well as toys, gifts and other unusual and unique accessories.
  • Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man: The worldwide phenomenon with a menu primarily made from chocolate debuts this summer.  Max Brenner’s location at The Forum Shops will hold the distinction of being the largest at 9,400 square feet.  Also to catch the guests’ eyes: enormous white vats mixing chocolate that will flow into pipes running throughout the entire space.  The décor will also feature huge bricks, candles, pralines, colorful toy tines and crates overflowing with cocoa beans.  Currently, including Las Vegas, there will be 29 total locations, with two in the United States: New York City and Philadelphia.
