BRAVE A SHAVE FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH DURING NEW YORK-NEW YORK HOTEL & CASINO’S 9TH ANNUAL ST. BALDRICK’S DAY EVENT, MARCH 10

BRAVE A SHAVE FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH DURING NEW YORK-NEW YORK HOTEL & CASINO’S 9TH ANNUAL ST. BALDRICK’S DAY EVENT, MARCH 10

Annual Shave-A-Thon Adds New ‘Squad Team Challenge’ and ‘Let’s Get Down to Beardness’ Components to Raise Funds for Childhood Cancer Research

On Saturday, March 10, New York-New York Hotel & Casino invites Las Vegans and visitors alike to join the crusade against childhood cancer at the ninth annual St. Baldrick’s Day head-shaving event. True to tradition, the fun-filled celebration will take place on the property’s iconic Brooklyn Bridge from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with some of Las Vegas’ best entertainers participating as celebrity head-shavers as shavees shed their locks in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The event is free and open to the public.

Those interested in braving a shave for the cause can register online here or on site the day of the event. Group registration also is available for teams and organizations.

To amplify fundraising efforts, New York-New York is introducing two new components: the “Squad Team Challenge” and the “Let’s Get Down to Beardness” campaign from John McManus, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at MGM Resorts International.

  • Squad Team Challenge: New York-New York is partnering with McMullan’s Irish pub to offer the new “Squad Team Challenge.” In the spirit of friendly competition, the “Squad Team Challenge” encourages different teams to sign up for either McMullan’s event on March 3 or New York-New York’s event on March 10 and challenge each other to see who can raise the most money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Only one person from each team will shave and whichever team raises the most money will be entered into an exclusive raffle drawing, with prizes including a stay at New York-New York complete with food and beverage vouchers.

  • McManus’ Let’s Get Down to Beardness Campaign: The grass-roots fundraising initiative is led by McManus himself, who for the past two years has made it his personal mission to raise crucial funds for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Last year McManus earned the top donor spot by raising $178,000 – more than half the total of New York-New York’s donation to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. This year he is raising the stakes by personally reaching out to friends, family, colleagues and new contacts to make a donation to his cause with the goal to raise a total of $200,000 as he gears up to shave his infamous beard on March 10. Those that would like to support McManus’ “Let’s Get Down to Beardness” campaign can make a donation here.

“The annual St. Baldrick’s Day head-shaving fundraiser is an event that is near and dear to the hearts of every single New-York-New York employee, which is why we are ecstatic to add in these two new fundraising components,” said Cynthia Kiser Murphey, president and chief operating officer at New York-New York Hotel & Casino. “Each year we continue to surpass our fundraising goals, and I am confident we can make this year another success with the support of McMullan’s, John McManus and the Las Vegas community.”

The St. Baldrick’s Day festivities will kick off with a special appearance by the Las Vegas Pipe Band followed by celebrity guest appearances by cast members from MAGIC MIKE LIVE, ABSINTHE, BAZ—Star Crossed Love, INFERNO, FANTASY, ZUMANITY by Cirque du Soleil and more. Family-friendly entertainment, including balloon art, face painting and a raffle with exciting prizes, also will be featured.

Big Apple Coaster Pushes High-Tech Thrills to Cosmic Levels with New Virtual Reality Experience

The Big Apple Roller Coaster at New York-New York Hotel & Casino Pushes High-Tech Thrills
to Cosmic Levels With New Virtual Reality Experience

First-of-its Kind Experience on Las Vegas Strip Opens February 7

Fasten your safety belts and prepare for liftoff! New York-New York Hotel & Casino will take attraction rides to new levels when The Big Apple Coaster Virtual Reality Experience debuts February 7. The first of its kind in Las Vegas, this white-knuckle ride high above The Strip will combine thrill-seekers’ need for speed with advanced, immersive graphics, resulting in a 4D experience that’s out of this world.

The first virtual reality ride to incorporate popular current landmarks into its creative visuals, the ride combines real G forces, drops and the high speed of The Big Apple Coaster to create an unforgettable experience.

The adventure begins as riders are equipped with virtual reality headsets, and they take on the role of a scientist in hot pursuit of an alien that escaped their research facility. The chase soars high above the Nevada desert and up the Las Vegas Strip, all virtually, of course.

“The Big Apple Coaster has provided heart-racing excitement to millions of visitors,” said Cynthia Kiser Murphey, president and chief operating officer of New York-New York. “Combining leading-edge technology with the thrill of our coaster overlooking the Las Vegas Strip, we are now able to offer visitors an experience that is new, adrenaline-inducing and something you can only find at New York-New York.”

This new experience was designed by VR Coaster®, the world’s leading creator of virtual reality enhancements on thrill rides. The coaster’s passenger trains are equipped with sensors that use wireless connectivity to precisely synchronize the virtual reality creative visuals with the real ride. This advanced, lightweight technology was developed to withstand the ups, downs, dives and loops of a roller coaster without losing connection to the virtual reality headsets. The experience utilizes VR Coaster’s unique graphic system, “Hybrid VR,” to deliver 3D footage in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second for high-quality visuals and a more immersive ride.

Thomas Wagner, co-founder and managing partner of VR Coaster, said, “We’re very proud to have had the opportunity to work on such an iconic attraction. The creative freedom New York-New York gave us on all aspects of the ride, from storyboards to the final virtual reality application, was invaluable. Our most exciting accomplishment with this experience was the fact that we had never before incorporated three completely different environments into a single ride… the research facility, the desert and The Strip… each with its own creative and technical challenges.”

Measuring 4,777 ft. in track length, The Big Apple Coaster is the longest roller coaster in the world equipped with virtual reality. The coaster also is the world’s first to feature a 180-degree “heartline” twist and dive maneuver. This, along with loops, negative Gs and top speed of 67 mph, gives guests a thrilling Las Vegas Strip experience.

Murphey said, “We are thrilled our partnership with VR Coaster allowed us to bring this new, exciting opportunity to New York-New York, and we couldn’t be happier with the relationship or results. And for guests who adore The Big Apple Coaster just the way it is, or aren’t quite ready for the virtual reality option, never fear. You can still enjoy the experience just the way you want it.”

Tickets are $20 for The Big Apple Coaster Virtual Reality Experience and $15 to ride the roller coaster the traditional way. All passengers must be at least 54” to ride and a minimum of 13 years old to ride with virtual reality.

Oktoberfest at The Park Returns September 28 – October 1

Timeless Bavarian Tradition will feature Classic Brews,
Authentic Eats and Festive Games

For the second consecutive year, Oktoberfest at The Park will awaken Las Vegas’ German spirit as the fun festival returns September 28 – October 1. Located at The Park, Las Vegas’ premier dining and entertainment district nestled between T-Mobile Arena and New York-New York Hotel & Casino, the event will offer merrymakers the opportunity to revel in Bavarian tradition with flowing beers, savory bites, entertaining games and cheerful folk sounds in celebration of the world’s largest beer festival.

Bier und Brot!
Upon arrival, guests may purchase a commemorative liter stein – available at Beerhaus, The Park’s festive beer hall. Ticket booths in the venue will sell the stein for $15 empty and $25 filled; refills will be available for $14.  The Park’s beer-centric celebration will feature authentic brews from Hacker-Pschorr and Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu, two breweries permitted to serve beer at the original Oktoberfest, as well as Oktoberfest-style selections from familiar breweries such as Sierra Nevada, Goose Island and Sam Adams.

Quintessential Bavarian snacks served at tents throughout The Park, as well as at Beerhaus, will include:

  • Frikadellen – Pan-fried hamburgers served with new boiled potatoes
  • BrezenSoft pretzels with spicy mustard and pickles
  • Schweineschnitzel – Pork schnitzel sandwiches with fries

  • HendlCrispy, golden-brown rotisserie chicken
  • Linzer Kekse und Bienenstich – Jam-filled, almond-flavored cookies and bee sting cakes made of brioche dough and pastry cream topped with a honey glaze

Spaß und Spiele!
Whether a spectator or participant, amusing games will be offered in tents throughout The Park’s lush beer garden space for guests’ enjoyment including tricycle racing, ring toss, a beer can challenge and more. Each day, guests who successfully complete all games will be entered into a drawing for worthy prizes.

No Oktoberfest is complete without the Chicken Dance, a noble tradition rumored to date back to the original Volkfest’s commencement. Those looking to shake their tail feathers may join the silent chicken dance competition in which guests will break out their best dancing birdie impersonation while wearing wireless music-playing headphones in an effort to be named Oktoberfest Chicken Dance Champion.

Musik und Tanz!
Revelers can enjoy live folk music daily by HofBrau Boys. As the party continues throughout the evening, attendees can keep the party alive while listening to live entertainment by local bands such as The District and Generations.

More than 50 people attended the invite-only fête, including Bennett’s wife Susan Benedetto, while dozens of onlookers gathered around to watch the ceremony, which took place on the iconic Brooklyn Bridge at New York-New York Hotel & Casino.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation – More Than 600 Heads to be Shaved this Year In Las Vegas to raise Funds to Fight Childhood Cancer –

More Than 600 Heads to be Shaved this Year to raise Funds to Fight Childhood Cancer

7-year supporters to be knighted as “Knights of the Bald Table”

For the ninth consecutive year, the Irish pub trade in Las Vegas is raising funds to research and conquer childhood cancer, spearheaded by a gala head-shaving party on Saturday, March 7th from 11 a.m. until 3 a.m. on Sunday, March 8th. During the 16-hour period, the benefit will have scores of celebrities, bands, special performers and regular folks taking part in fighting childhood cancer.

McMullan’s Irish Pub, located on Tropicana and Cameron, is the headquarter for the event and has been for the past nine years and is delighted to work with 7th-year participant Nine Fine Irishmen at New York, New York, 4th-year participant RiRa Irish Pub at Mandalay Bay and 3rd-year participant Vinyl Lounge at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

stbaldricksevent

Las Vegas Valley residents have gathered at McMullan’s and have provided more than $3.5M for the campaign to find a cure for the killer of more children than any other childhood disease.

“We don’t have huge formal dinners or silent auction as our fundraiser. Rather, we have hundreds of people from all over Southern Nevada show up at our pub and sponsor their neighbors, friends and even strangers who are willing to have their heads shaved in solidarity with children who have lost their hair to cancer,” says Brian McMullan, Owner of McMullan’s Irish Pub. “We hope to add to the more than $154 million to the Foundation awarded as grants to physicians and researchers across the globe. We will beat this horrific disease”

All of the dedicated ‘shavees’, barbers, volunteers and committee members who have participated for seven years will be admitted to the “Knights of the Bald Table”. Throughout the day you will be able to see people being knighted on stage in honor of their continuous contribution to this great cause.

Masters of ceremonies for the shaving of an estimated 450 volunteers include TV personality, Robin Leach; TV newsmen, Nate Tannenbaum; TV news personalities, Gerard Ramalho and Elizabeth Watts; Entertainer, Clint Holmes and Kelly Clinton Holmes; Starsky and Hutch’s Huggy Bear, Antonio Fargas; Jennifer Romas with the Sexxy cast, CBS Radio morning show host, Carlos Diaz and Spence and many more. Extensive radio remotes will originate on local CBS-owned FM and AM stations and the event can be streamed live from computers around the world.

Special ‘shavee’ volunteers include Kevin Page, Board of Regents Chair and Dr. Jonathon Bernstein, Las Vegas Pediatric Oncologist from the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, who has also received the seven St. Baldrick’s grants.

“The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, based in Monrovia, CA, was founded 16 years ago by three people who wanted to do more to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than just sit around and drink beer”, McMullan said.

One of them offered children cancer research as a fundraising recipient and the participants had a goal of raising $1,000 each. After raising more than ten times that amount, the annual event mushroomed with more than 100,000 heads get shaved annually and is held in pubs, firehouses, restaurants, meeting halls, high school gyms and other venues in all 50 states and 18 countries.

The sad fact is that every three minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide and the average number years of life a child loses to cancer is 71 years. The time to help is now. Since 2005, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has awarded more than $154 million to support research that shows the most promise in finding cures and better treatments for children fighting cancer. This year, the Foundation hopes to surpass its 2014 fundraising record of $38.9 million. We need YOU to help make that happen.
To get involved, visit www.StBaldricks.org, and connect on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or Vimeo.

About St. Baldrick’s Foundation
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. St. Baldrick’s coordinates its signature head-shaving events worldwide where participants collect pledges to shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer, raising money to fund research. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s has awarded more than $154 million to support lifesaving research, making the Foundation the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. St. Baldrick’s funds are granted to some of the most brilliant childhood cancer research experts in the world and to younger professionals who will be the experts of tomorrow.
