Rampart Casino/JW Marriott Become First Property to Host Blood Drive Since Early March with Holiday Weekend Drive!

JW MARRIOTT LAS VEGAS AND RAMPART CASINO CELEBRATE THE AMERICAN SPIRIT WITH A HOLIDAY BLOOD DRIVE AND BECOMES THE FIRST PROPERTY TO HOST A DRIVE SINCE EARLY MARCH

WHAT:
JW Marriott Resort Las Vegas and Rampart Casino step up and become the first casino property to host a blood drive since early March when the stay-at-home orders were initiated to slow the spread of COVID-19.  Historically, Independence Day week is the lowest week for blood donations in the summer.  Locals who are able to donate blood are urged to use the American spirit and give back to the community in this two-day, holiday blood drive.

Donors are encouraged to keep social distancing recommendations by scheduling an appointment online to reserve a spot by visiting www.bloodhero.com. Enter ‘RAMPART’ as the code and guests are able to sign up for this week’s blood drive as well as other upcoming blood drives.

Vitalant, the largest blood provider in the state of Nevada, is providing COVID-19 antibody testing with every successful donation.  Donors will receive the results within two to three weeks.  Donors that receive positive results can then choose to aid in the fight against COVID-19 by donating convalescent plasma, the only antibody treatment available for critically ill COVID-19 hospital patients.  For those who have recovered from COVID-19, Vitalant will also collect convalescent plasma donations at this blood drive.

UNLV MEN AND WOMEN EARN CSCAA TEAM SCHOLAR AWARDS

UNLV MEN AND WOMEN EARN CSCAA TEAM SCHOLAR AWARDS

Both the UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs were named to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Scholar All-America team for the Spring 2020 Semester, the national organization announced Tuesday. UNLV was one of 461 institutions that were named to the list, and this marks the eighth time in the last nine semesters that the Rebel women’s program has earned Scholar recognition.

CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart noted: “No team was unaffected by this Spring’s pandemic but Athletic Director Reed-Francois and President Meana can and should be proud of their team and the work of Ben with the Rebels.”

The Spring Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester/quarter coinciding with the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The CSCAA will announce its individual Scholar All-Americans next week.

Real estate tech disruptor, Homie gives customers unprecedented savings, simplicity, service

Homie, the number one listing broker in Utah is revolutionizing the real estate industry in Southern Nevada by offering virtual tech solutions and experienced local agents to provide homebuyers and sellers with unprecedented savings, simplicity, and service. Just as Uber and Lyft transformed transportation, Homie is disrupting the real estate industry by combining technology with full-time, experienced local agents for a fraction of the price. While traditional real estate companies charge percentage-based commissions, Homie breaks the mold by charging a flat fee of just $2,500* and still providing a full-service real estate experience – saving home buyers and sellers thousands of dollars in this challenging and tumultuous economy.

In addition to improving the real estate process for local homebuyers and sellers, Homie partnered with the United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) in April to create the Homie Fund to help Las Vegans most impacted by COVID-19 avoid home foreclosure and pay utility bills. Homie started the fund with a $10,000 cash donation. Homie also committed to provide $500 to the Fund for every home bought or sold with the company in Southern Nevada through June and has now extended that commitment through September.

“Finding out my 5-year-old son Benji had cancer again while we were in the midst of a business shutdown and global pandemic was overwhelming,” said Azalea Sanchez, Benji’s mother and recipient of funding from the Homie Fund. “I am so grateful for the financial assistance the Homie fund provided to the United Way of Southern Nevada to support Ayden’s Army of Angels that has enabled us to stay in our home and give us a bit of hope during this horrible time.”

In addition to the UWSN partnership, for those in Las Vegas who were directly impacted by the economic crisis stemming from the government shutdown and need to now sell their homes, Homie will rebate the entire $2,500 listing fee back to the seller at closing.

“Many home buyers and sellers are strapped for cash due to the current economic downtown,” said Homie co-founder Mike Peregrina, who grew up in Las Vegas, attended University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) and has diverse experience in the local real estate market. “Thanks to our streamlined, less complicated real estate process with a single flat fee instead of percentage-based commission, buyers and sellers can save thousands of dollars – now when they need it most.”

“Homie’s tech capabilities and commitment to providing customers with unparalleled service and savings are critically important now,” added Peregrina. “Due to social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus, there is an increased demand for virtual interactions, including virtual home tours and open houses, but people also want to have the expertise of a real estate agent to guide them through the process. Homie can meet both these needs.”

About Homie

Homie is a real estate technology company changing the way real estate is bought and sold by eliminating high fees and commissions. The company simplified an outdated and overcomplicated process through a combination of technology and full-service real estate agent support. Homie is the #1 listing brokerage office in the state of Utah and is growing quickly in Arizona and Nevada. With real estate, home loans, closing services, and insurance, the Homie Tech family is making every aspect of buying and selling a home simple, affordable, and enjoyable. Finally, the way modern real estate should be. To learn more, visit www.homie.com.

Digital Dinos Exhibit Provides Touchless Interaction at Las Vegas Natural History Museum

Digital Dinos Exhibit Provides Touchless
Interaction at Las Vegas Natural History Museum

Hundreds of millions of years ago, dinosaurs roamed the region that became Nevada—and today, innovative digital representations of these creatures are featured in a brand-new exhibit at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum (LVNHM). Digital Dinos is an exhibit designed and developed by the Museum and the interactive exhibit firm Ideum, based in Corrales, New Mexico. This projection-based exhibit allows visitors to touchlessly interact with a variety of dinosaurs once native to Nevada and the southwest.

The exhibit’s 16-foot projection displays a scene from the Cretaceous Period, with massive plant-eating Titanosaurs in the background. New dinosaur characters then begin to appear: a meat-eating Eotryrannus tracks visitors in response to their movements, while a small pack of Deinonychus hides from guests when they appear. When an Eolambia mother and baby appear in the scene, visitors can even stretch their arms and feed them ferns!

The exhibit uses a Microsoft Azure Kinect to track visitor movements and provide corresponding dinosaur interaction. The exhibit employs this same technology to remind visitors to observe 6-foot social distancing recommendations. This allows visitors to more safely interact with the Digital Dinos exhibit in the age of COVID-19.

The overall concept for Digital Dinos is somewhat similar to other full-body touchless exhibits that Ideum has created over the years, but this new exhibit is unique in several ways. First and foremost, all of the dinosaurs in this experience are native to Nevada. A few are clad in feathers, and these depictions, although they are stylized and animated, are based on the most up-to-date science available. The entire scene, including the flora and the geography, is based on what Nevada was like 100 million years ago.

“This exhibit features several Nevada dinosaurs. It is a great compliment to the ongoing excavations and research that we are conducting across the state. We are learning more about our prehistoric past all the time. Here’s an opportunity for our visitors to walk into it,” says Las Vegas Natural History Museum Paleontologist, Dr. Bonde.

The exhibit is unique in other ways as well. “All of the interactions, 3D models and 2D animations, the sounds, and all of the code are completely new. We applied lessons learned from past projects, but everything else here is unique. The real technical innovation here is the way our team of artists combined 3D and 2D animations. We’ve never done anything quite like this before,” says Ideum Founder Jim Spadaccini.
Thanks to the generous support of Ms. Susan Houston, Digital Dinos premieres this weekend at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. In addition, a partnership between LVNHM and Ideum will make this exhibit available to other museums and public spaces, so the experience has the potential to become a national or even international phenomenon. “We are thrilled to offer such a unique digital exhibit for visitors to interact with, particularly at this difficult time with the pandemic. We are also excited to know that other museums may soon adopt this exhibit for their visitors,” says Marilyn Gillespie, Executive Director of LVNHM.

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum began in 1989 with a small group of citizens who knew the community would benefit from the educational resources it could provide. After very humble beginnings, this private non-profit museum is now a Smithsonian Affiliate, accredited with the American Alliance of Museums, and is a federal and state repository for fossils and artifacts. From the desert to the ocean, from Nevada to Africa, from prehistoric times to the present, the Las Vegas Natural History Museum takes visitors of all ages on a learning adventure around the world.

Ideum has partnerships with 3M, Barco, Christie Digital, Crestron, LG, and others, allowing its creative digital projects to have direct access to leading-edge equipment and specialized hardware expertise. UFC Honors, presented by Toyo Tires® is the company’s annual awards program recognizing UFC athletes, performances, and moments throughout each year.

As the inaugural recipient of the Forrest Griffin Community Award, Dustin will receive a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice. All donations are courtesy of Toyo Tires. Dustin will be honored for this award later this year during the 2020 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Toyo Tires®, which will be streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS®.

“Dustin is a great athlete, but more importantly he’s a great human being,” UFC President Dana White said. “He is a kid who works hard and is passionate about giving back to not only his community, but to those who are less fortunate.”

“We would like to congratulate Dustin on being selected as the first-ever Forrest Griffin Community Award recipient,” Toyo Tires Vice President of Marketing Tim Chaney said. We admire and commend Dustin for his efforts to support his local community and are pleased to donate $25,000 to the charity of his choice.”

In April 2018, Dustin and his wife, Jolie, established The Good Fight Foundation, with the mission of being committed to helping those in need and to fighting to change the world by doing positive things in the community.

Throughout the first two years of the foundation’s existence, the Poiriers have launched a series of initiatives for those in need throughout their hometown of Lafayette and neighboring Acadiana, Louisiana. These programs include annual Thanksgiving food drives, back to school campaigns, and fundraisers to help purchase necessity kits for hundreds of women experiencing homelessness, as well as furniture for local shelters.

Dustin has also utilized his fight-worn UFC Fight Kits, auctioning off his inventory of apparel to raise donations for families of fallen law enforcement officers, and building a local playground for Aaron Hill, a terminally ill seven-year old of Lafayette. Hill, diagnosed with a genetic brain disorder, requested to have a special needs playground built for his friends who attend Prairie Elementary School.

In May 2019, he was awarded with the key to the city of Lafayette by Mayor Joel Robideaux for his work with The Good Fight Foundation and his contributions to the community. Following his most recent fight in September 2019 against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi, Nurmagomedov and Poirier each raffled off their fight-worn UFC Legacy Series Walkout Jerseys, raising more than $100,000 with a direct match from UFC, totaling $200,000 donated directly to the foundation.

The funds generated from this global auction helped purchase hundreds of car seats, which were donated to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Lafayette. Later that year, Poirier and his foundation also partnered with former UFC heavyweight Justin Wren’s “Fight For The Forgotten” organization. As part of this joint partnership, Poirier and Wren were able to use the funds raised and the platform to combat the water crisis in Uganda. During the campaign, they exceeded their fundraising goal of purchasing new water wells, and also secured 43.21 acres of land and a solar powered water well to create a more self-sustainable living environment for the Batwa Pygmy Tribe.

This year, Dustin and his team have stayed active in the community with relief efforts associated with COVID-19 by donating more than 1,000 meals to frontline healthcare workers at local hospitals and clinics.  Currently ranked no. 3 in the lightweight division, Dustin is a veteran of 32 fights and has compiled a record of 25-6, 1 NC (18-6, 1 NC UFC) while competing in both the featherweight and lightweight divisions since his debut in 2009.

During his tenure inside the Octagon®, Dustin has become a notable fan favorite by defeating former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway (2), former UFC lightweight champions Eddie Alvarez and Anthony Pettis, as well as winner of season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter® Diego Brandao and winner of season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter® Jonathan Brookins.

JING LAS VEGAS PLANS TO REOPEN ON FRIDAY, JUNE 26 WITH HEIGHTENED SAFETY AND SANITIZATION PROTOCOLS

The Downtown Summerlin® Eatery Has Enlisted A Full-Time Medical Consultant To Assist In Updating COVID-19 Procedures

Jing Las Vegas located at Downtown Summerlin® is reopening its doors on Friday, June 26 after voluntarily closing down as a result of multiple positive COVID-19 cases among staff. The restaurant has taken the necessary precautions to provide peace of mind to their patrons at the time of reopening, including the implementation of new COVID-19 procedures and mandated testing required for all staff. The restaurant has also enlisted a full-time medical consultant to assist with retraining and re-opening procedures, and to help navigate the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic moving forward.

“Our main goal is to create a safe environment with zero transmission of the COVID-19 virus,” said Dr. Eugene Shin, Jing’s in-house medical consultant, when asked about the restaurant’s plan to stop the spread. “While this is a lofty goal, it is possible when synergy is achieved between the back of house and front of house teams, along with the cooperation of the restaurant’s patrons.”

Updated COVID-19 procedures at the restaurant include:

  • Implementing additional signage to ensure social distancing is practiced
  • Spacing out tables and chairs even further
  • Requiring masks upon arrival (complimentary, disposable masks provided)
  • Requiring a digital temperature check for all staff and patrons upon arrival
  • Installing additional hand sanitizer dispensers
  • Requiring the entire staff to undergo testing
  • Implementing a new “contact tracing” procedure for all staff
  • Implementing an additional deep surface cleaning scheduled concurrently with regular daily cleaning

In light of Governor Sisolak’s recent issuance of a mandated face mask policy in all public places in the state of Nevada, face coverings will be required by both staff and patrons at all times, aside from when guests are seated at their designated table.

Staff members will be allowed to return to work with proof of a negative COVID-19 test result. Any staff that receives a positive test result will be required to undergo a 14-day mandated quarantine period, followed by a negative test result before being allowed to return to work.

Reservations are highly suggested by calling 725-735-7172. The restaurant’s hours of operation are 3:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. daily, with daily happy hour offered from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
