Life is Beautiful Festival Talent to Play Night Shows at Fremont Country Club

Life is Beautiful Festival just announced night shows with several of the festival’s musical talent giving fans the chance to keep the music going long after the last headliner takes the stage. Fitz & The Tantrums, Echosmith, Mayer Hawthorne and Sabriel all will take over the Fremont Country Club after performing to thousands at the festival, to play underground sets at the intimate venue. The Fremont Country Club will host these separately ticketed shows Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25.

 

“We’re excited to add a couple night shows this year and give fans a chance to see some great artists inside an intimate venue,” said Craig Nyman Head of Music and Live Performance for the festival, “After performing in front of thousands at the festival, it’s going to be fun having these talented bands perform at Fremont Country Club in front of much smaller crowds.”

Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) will host the second “Every Piggy Counts” Pig Out event of the year on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Whole Foods Summerlin.

The community is invited to adopt a ceramic piggy bank and fatten it up throughout the year to benefit AFAN. Piggy owners empty their pigs at quarterly “Pig Out” events and receive prizes, leading up to the final Pig Out on World AIDS Day, Dec. 1.

Cool off with a smoothie from a pedal powered bicycle blender and receive reusable Whole Foods bags with giveaways inside. The participant who brings the “Plumpest Pig” will win a gift basket.

Each piggy comes with a paint pen and can be decorated, painted or bedazzled to fit in at home or at the office. People also have the option to adopt piggys already designed by select art students from Las Vegas Academy. Baby piggy banks are available for children as a fun way to teach about fundraising.

Pigs are always available for adoption at the AFAN offices at 1120 Almond Tree Lane.

Early Bird tickets for The Great Vegas Festival of Beer are now on sale.  Those purchasing tickets before February 9 can take advantage of the Early Bird discount on select ticketing options.  Every ticketholder is entitled to a complimentary ride home from the festival, provided by Motley Brews to encourage safety.

Join Motley Brews at Sunset Park on April 27, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m. for an all-out day of beer discovery with access to over 200 craft brews from more than 50 local, regional and international breweries.  Live music, good food and great craft beer are all on tap as usual for Nevada’s largest craft beer celebration.  This year’s festival is presented by Mark-Taylor Residential, Land Rover and Whole Foods.

Motley Brews expects nearly 5,000 attendees at this year’s festivities, and to accommodate the resounding demand for beer they’ve chosen an expansive and breathtaking location adjacent to Sunset Park Lake for the festival grounds. The Great Vegas Festival of Beer will be one of the first major events held at the lakeside event pavilion following the completion of Sunset Park’s $15 million renovation.

Local beer fans will be pleased to learn that Motley Brews has teamed with the Nevada Craft Brewers Association, a nonprofit advocacy group, to support local craftsmen and prominently feature great Nevada beers at the festival.  A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Nevada Craft Brewers Association and their involvement will introduce some rare specialty beers brewed just for the Great Vegas Festival of Beer.  A portion of ticket sales will also benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

HELP of Southern Nevada’s “HELP2O” campaign encourages Southern Nevadans to help protect homeless residents from the dangers associated with the summer heat by donating water and spare change at Whole Foods Market now through August. Those looking to donate bottled water can do so by visiting any of the four local Whole Foods Market locations. Bottled water donations can be purchased in-store and donated or purchased elsewhere and dropped off. Those who donate cases or bottles of Real Water will have their donations matched by the company. The water will be collected on a regular basis and distributed to area homeless.

14th Annual Chet Buchanan & The Morning Zoo Toy Drive

Now in its 14th year, Chet Buchanan & The Morning Zoo will host a toy drive at 6226 W. Sahara Avenue with Chet living on the 30-foot scaffolding throughout the entire drive. HELP of Southern Nevada will then distribute the toys to youths in need.

Volunteering Effort ‘Downtown Cares Las Vegas’

El Cortez Hotel & Casino is teaming with other downtown businesses and organizations for “Downtown Cares Las Vegas,” a day of downtown volunteerism, on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

Downtown Cares Las Vegas is being organized by Moonridge Group,  and volunteering efforts will be led by El Cortez along with a group of sponsors, including Zappos, the City of Las Vegas, the City of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, the City of Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Whole Foods, 8 News Now, BLVDS and other businesses and arts organizations. All volunteers will come together to improve the Robert Gordon Senior Recreation Center at 336 N. 10th Street, Las Vegas, NV. 

Event registration is from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by the day of volunteering at the recreation center. Volunteers can offer their services for a full- or half-day shift. 

The 261 low-income seniors who use the Robert Gordon Recreation Center on a daily basis have created a “Wish List” that the volunteers will be working to fulfill throughout the day.  Remodeling and facility improvement initiatives, such as painting, collecting non-perishable foods, planting and gardening, improving the recreation areas, beautifying the patio area and upgrading the kitchen, will go a long way in making the recreation center more functional and enjoyable for the seniors.
