AIDS Walk Las Vegas on April 17

Get ready to “Make Your Mark” at the 26th Annual AIDS Walk Las Vegas on Sunday, April 17 at Town Square starting at 8:30 a.m. with some of The Strip’s top performers showing support.

AFAN’s largest fundraiser of the year, AIDS Walk Las Vegas saw 6,000 walkers in 2015 raising more than $400,000 to directly benefit supportive services to stabilize and empower the 3,000 clients living with or affected by HIV.

Penn & Teller will serve as grand marshals for the 15th consecutive year and leaders of the Penn & Teller Challenge, offering five tiers of fundraising incentives including complimentary show tickets to Frank Marino’s Divas and Rock Of Ages, plus tickets and VIP backstage passes to Blue Man Group. The top challenger will be awarded with complimentary show tickets, a photo opp and exclusive meet & greet with Britney Spears. For every $250 raised by a challenger, Penn & Teller will match the donation dollar for dollar. BACK BAR USA RENEWS PARTNERSHIP WITH AFAN FOR 28TH ANNUAL BLACK & WHITE PARTY

Building on the success experienced last year, Back Bar USA, a wine, beer and spirits marketing, consulting and design firm based in Las Vegas, will once again partner with Aid for AIDS of Nevada’s (AFAN) for its 28th annual Black & White Party, which will be held at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel on August 23. Back Bar will work with its affiliated spirits brands to develop creative and unique cocktails that will be showcased at exciting interactive displays during the event.

“Last year we were able to take one of the best parties in Las Vegas and take it to a new level,” said Tim Haughinberry, founder of Back Bar and long-time supporter of AFAN. “The ideas are already flowing for this year’s event and we look forward to making the experience even more memorable.”

The annual event, which has been held at a variety of venues across Las Vegas, experienced an unprecedented level of success at The Joint. At the 2014 event, around 3,500 people attended Black & White Party and AFAN raised more than $130,000. Positive feedback about the participation of Back Bar and its brands lead to the renewal of the agreement for 2014.

“We appreciate Back Bar and their spirits brands for their continued support of AFAN and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for this year’s Black & White Party,” said AFAN Executive Director Antioco Carrillo. “Without the help from our partners, we wouldn’t be able to assist our clients and their families with the resources they need to live.”

Ticket pricing and times are still being determined for the 28th annual Black & White Party. More information will soon become available at www.afanlv.org. More information about Back Bar USA, its brands and services is available at www.BackBarUSA.com.

TRUFUSION YOGA HOSTING TOY DRIVE AND “TRU SWEAT-A-THON” TO BENEFIT AFAN
Toy drive will culminate with 24 hours of nonstop classes

TruFusion, a new local Las Vegas fitness boutique that offers classes including yoga, Pilates, kettle bells and TRX, is hosting a toy drive to benefit Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN), an organization that helps those affected by HIV and AIDS in Southern Nevada. The last-minute rally for toys will be a “Tru Sweat-a-thon” event that features 24 hours of continuous classes such as dancefusion, black light power flow yoga and vino & vinyasa.  Visit trufusionyoga.com for a complete event schedule.

Tru Sweat-a-thon will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 8 and end at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 9.

“TruFusion is grateful for the support its new fitness studio is receiving from the Southern Nevada community and is hosting the drive as a way to give back,” said Ruth Furman, director of marketing communications.

New and unused toys may be dropped off in the designated bin at TruFusion, located at 8575 S. Eastern Avenue in Las Vegas, during operating hours. Donors will receive a TruFusion 1-day pass. When a new guest redeems that pass and takes a class, TruFusion will donate $1 to AFAN.

“Passes are transferable and make great stocking stuffers,” Furman said.

When Tru Sweat-a-thon commences, the classes that are part of the event will be offered at no charge for a donation of a new and unwrapped toy or toys, or a cash donation with all proceeds going to AFAN. Throughout the course of the toy drive, when a customer purchases an annual TruFusion Yoga membership, a discounted rate will be offered with a portion of the proceeds going to AFAN.

Additional Iconic Las Vegas Landmarks Join AFAN to Commemorate World AIDS Day Dec. 1

Additional Las Vegas landmarks have joined with Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) to show their support in the fight against HIV and AIDS in remembering those who have died and honoring the ones living with HIV/AIDS on World AIDS Day on Sunday, Dec. 1. The day’s events kick off with “Every Piggy Counts Piggy Herding” from 3-6 p.m. at The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada (The Center) located on 401 S. Maryland Pkwy, followed by a special 20th anniversary screening of the Academy Award-winning movie “Philadelphia” starring Tom Hanks, as part of LGBTQ+, the collaborative effort by AFAN and The Center. Popcorn will be provided and viewers are encouraged to come early to reserve their spot and BYOB – “bring your own blanket.” Following the movie at 6:30 p.m., AFAN will start their annual candlelight memorial walk from the Judy Bayley Theatre at UNLV to the AIDS Memorial Garden located by the Rod Lee Bigelow Health Sciences building. AFAN Commemorates World AIDS Day Dec. 1

Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) will show their support in the fight against HIV and AIDS and honor those who have died on World AIDS Day on Sunday, Dec. 1.

The day’s events will kick off with the “Every Piggy Counts Piggy Herding.” Throughout the year, people have adopted ceramic piggy banks to fill up with loose change to benefit AFAN and all “parents” are invited to empty out their piggy’s bellies from 3-6 p.m. at The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada (The Center) located on 401 S. Maryland Pkwy. Prize bags will be given to anyone who drops off their piggy money or adopts a new piggy.

At 4p.m., The Center will air a special 20th anniversary screening of the Academy Award-winning movie “Philadelphia” starring Tom Hanks, as part of LGBTQ+, the collaborative effort by AFAN and The Center. Popcorn will be provided and viewers are encouraged to come early to reserve their spot and BYOB – “bring your own blanket.” Following the movie, a candlelight memorial walk will take place at 6:30 p.m. starting from the Judy Bayley Theatre at UNLV to the AIDS Memorial Garden located by the Rod Lee Bigelow Health Sciences building. Candles and all necessary items will be provided. There is no cost to attend either event.

AFAN is also proud to announce that several iconic landmarks around the city will light up red in honor of World AIDS Day, including the Keep Memory Alive Event Center, City Hall, The Venetian and The Palazzo and MEET Las Vegas. AFAN encourages people to wear red clothing or ribbons during the day to show their support.

“World AIDS Day is a reminder that HIV and AIDS are still very prevalent around the world and that there is still much to be done to increase awareness and fight the pandemic,” said Antioco Carrillo, executive director for AFAN. “Even with the scientific advances that have been made in treatment and the increased attention in mainstream culture, people still don’t know the facts about how to protect themselves and those living with HIV/AIDS are dealing with stigma and discrimination.”

The first World AIDS Day was held in 1988 and was the first-ever health awareness day to be recognized globally. Today, an estimated 34 million people live with HIV worldwide and AFAN helps approximately 3,500 adults and children in Southern Nevada through direct client service programs, food programs, prevention and education programs and community outreach.
