Nevada Ballet Theatre & Cirque du Soleil Present an Exciting and Diverse Collaboration of Works for the 7th Annual A Choreographers’ Showcase

nbtCIRQUE DU SOLEIL

NEVADA BALLET THEATRE & CIRQUE DU SOLEIL PRESENT AN EXCITING AND DIVERSE COLLABORATION OF WORKS FOR THE 7TH ANNUAL A CHOREOGRAPHERS’ SHOWCASE

Featuring Artists from Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT), Michael Jackson ONE, Mystère, The Beatles LOVE, KÀ and Zumanity with special appearances by students from NBT’s Education & Outreach Program, Future Dance

TWO WEEKENDS ONLY: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26 & SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2 AT 1 PM MYSTÈRE THEATRE, TREASURE ISLAND HOTEL & CASINO

Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) and Cirque du Soleil® once again join forces to present the highly creative and collaborative 7th annual A Choreographers’ Showcase,  featuring over 60 local artists from NBT and Cirque du Soleil, performing 11 original works on Sunday, October 26 at 1 pm and Sunday, November 2  at 1 pm at the Mystère Theatre at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino, 3300 South Las Vegas Blvd. Tickets may be purchased for $25 and $45 by calling the Mystère Theatre Box Office at (702) 894-7722 or via online at www.nevadaballet.org.

Designed as a project to stimulate and encourage artistic growth, A Choreographers’ Showcase provides emerging artists from both NBT and Cirque du Soleil the necessary resources and support to conceptualize, develop, create and execute an originally-choreographed work from beginning to end. “The importance of this project brings something special to the artists from both organizations as well as local audiences; and that is the gift of the creative process,” said NBT Artistic Director and Co-Creative Director for A Choreographers’ Showcase, James Canfield. “Opportunities for developing artists are becoming scarce due to the lack of resources and time available. Projects such as A Choreographers’ Showcase allow artists to explore new directions; and when the seeds are planted early enough, artists can continue to develop their craft over a longer period of time.”

Over the past seven years, A Choreographers’ Showcase has cultivated an appreciative local audience and become a media favorite. An organic and ever-evolving endeavor, each year possesses its own unique flavor, energy and area of focus. “For this year’s showcase, we encouraged the artists to incorporate more of an acrobatic element into their works,” said Katy Tate, from Cirque du Soleil and Co-Creative Director for A Choreographer’s Showcase. “Their challenge as choreographers is to forgo the use of an apparatus, utilizing movements which celebrate the abilities of the physical body without the technical support of a physical object.”

Each artist is responsible for all of the artistic elements of their piece – from choreography, to costumes, to lighting and sound. “The Showcase encourages mentorship and allows artists to step outside of their comfort zone,” said Tate. “Because performers in both organizations must materialize their creative visions and possibly perform new styles they haven’t yet explored, they experience tremendous professional growth.”

Furthering the mission of the project, students of low income means will not only receive the opportunity to witness this one-of-a-kind collaboration as part of an exciting school matinee on Friday, October 24, but Scholars from NBT’s Future Dance program will have a presence throughout the show  – aiding in the transition of works as well as the finale. Since its inception, thousands of local students have witnessed this one-of-a-kind collaboration bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds and dance styles. Proceeds from each $45 ticket sold to the October 26 and November 2 public performances enable NBT and Cirque du Soleil to present this special school time matinee.

As a benefit for NBT, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, proceeds generated from A Choreographers’ Showcase provide necessary support for the company’s main stage productions at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, its affiliated Academy in Summerlin and the many initiatives of Future Dance, its Education and Outreach program, which successfully reached over 10,000 underserved students during the 2013-2014 Season.

TICKETS ON SALE NOW

Ticket prices for A Choreographers’ Showcase  may be purchased for $25 and $45 by calling the Mystère Theatre Box Office at (702) 894-7722 or online at www.nevadaballet.org. Purchasing a premium $45 ticket will provide guests with preferred seating and the opportunity to support NBT’s Education & Outreach Program, Future Dance.

ABOUT A CHOREOGRAPHERS’ SHOWCASE

A Choreographers’ Showcase began as a premiere collaboration between Nevada Ballet Theatre and Cirque du Soleil in 2006 when the two companies discovered a way to collaborate that would benefit Las Vegas’ local ballet company and allow the world-renowned troupe to add an action-based element to their support of the arts. On Sunday, December 2, 2007, A Choreographers’ Showcase debuted at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino on the famous Las Vegas strip. Now in its seventh year, this critically-acclaimed production has created an avenue of growth for local artists while providing Las Vegas with a dynamic and completely organic dance experience. In addition, the showcase has raised Nevada Ballet Theatre’s visibility on the Las Vegas strip while simultaneously enabling Cirque du Soleil to further root itself in the local cultural community. Over the last few years, the showcase has garnered rave reviews and sold-out houses in addition to significant media attention including the LA Times and LIFE Magazine. The only collaboration of its kind, A Choreographers’ Showcase boasts an important education and outreach element; since its inception, almost 6,000 local students have received the opportunity to witness this one-of-a-kind production bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds and dance styles.

Rock in Rio Announces Entertainment Leaders MGM Resorts International, Cirque du Soleil and

Ron Burkle as Partners in the World’s Biggest Music Festival, Coming to Las Vegas in 2015

Rock in Rio USA’s “City of Rock” Gains New Support from Las Vegas Entertainment Experts

Rock in Rio, the world’s biggest music festival, has joined forces with entertainment giants MGM RESORTS INTERNATIONAL(NYSE:MGM), Cirque du Soleil and Ron Burkle (The Yucaipa Companies) for the festival’s U.S. debut in Las Vegas in May 2015. An alliance founded on a shared commitment to creating innovative entertainment, Rock in Rio, MGM Resorts and Cirque du Soleil will redefine the modern music festival for U.S. audiences with a monumental combination of the biggest names in music and a fully immersive entertainment experience, all housed in a spectacular, custom-made “City of Rock.”

Over the past 30 years, Rock in Rio festivals have brought more than 1,120 performances to 1 billion fans worldwide, and that number will grow next month at Rock in Rio Lisbon (Portugal) where The Rolling Stones, Justin Timberlake, Lorde, Arcade Fire and Ed Sheeran, among others, are scheduled to perform.

“We are thrilled to welcome MGM Resorts, Cirque du Soleil and Ron Burkle as part of the Rock in Rio USA family,” said Roberto Medina, founder, Rock in Rio. “It’s a testament to the festival’s 30-year history and outstanding reputation to have these entertainment giants on board and, with added power from the partners, our first Rock in Rio USA will be unlike any festival anyone has ever experienced – on the biggest stage in the world in the heart of Las Vegas.”

Building the City of Rock in Las Vegas
As the premier entertainment company in the world, MGM Resorts’ expertise in developing world-class infrastructure will lay the groundwork to transform 33 acres of prime Las Vegas real estate into the magical City of Rock. The permanent open-air concert venue will be located on The Strip near the corner of Sahara Avenue and have the capacity for 80,000 people per day. The design and layout will be signature Rock in Rio, complete with five stages; themed streets boasting the sights, sounds, and foods of Brazil, the U.S. and the United Kingdom; thrilling rides including a zip line; food courts, shopping areas and other activities. After the festival, the incredible venue will remain for MGM Resorts to host other entertainment experiences for people from around the world.

Bill Hornbuckle, president of MGM Resorts International, said, “The entertainment scene has changed dramatically in recent years, as has the way consumers want to experience their entertainment. With our innovative new partners at Rock in Rio and the creative geniuses at Cirque du Soleil, we will introduce Las Vegas to an unprecedented music festival in a setting that will never be replicated.” Hornbuckle continued, “The event will serve as a major tourism driver for Las Vegas, expected to draw well over 300,000 people to our city over the four days of the concert.”

Transforming the Festival Experience
Having hosted resident shows in Las Vegas for more than 20 years, Cirque du Soleil will bring deep knowledge of the market and consumer behavior to the Rock in Rio partnership. This commitment to creating a close and emotional relationship with the public is part of what sets Rock in Rio apart from other music festivals and helps make it the world’s biggest music and entertainment event.

About Rock in Rio
Since its inception in 1985, Rock in Rio has been a cultural phenomenon. Launched as a way to return joy and confidence to the people of Brazil at the end of a military regime, Rock in Rio’s inaugural event broke music festival records with 1.38 million attendees – five times larger than Woodstock. Since that monumental concert, 13 Rock in Rio festivals have taken place across three countries with more than 7 million people attending and 1 billion more watching at home around the world. Last year’s festival in Rio sold out all 600,000 tickets in an unprecedented four hours.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hosts Charity Benefit Circus Couture to Raise Proceeds for Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada

Performance and Art event at The Joint on December 8, 2013

Circus Couture presents “Possession(s)”, a unique and extravagant performance, fashion, and art event inside The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8. Benefitting the Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada, Nevada’s only nonprofit outpatient clinic treating kids with cancer regardless of insurance, Circus Couture has been praised by the Las Vegas Review- Journal as “one of the hippest and most entertaining charity nights of the year.”

Now in its fourth year, Circus Couture was born with inspiration from performers and employees of shows on the Las Vegas Strip and has grown to include talents from Las Vegas’ most revered fine artists and community leaders.  The event features both a silent and live art auction paired with a breathtaking circus spectacle featuring sensational runway fashion.  Circus Couture “Possession(s)” was inspired by the idea that a stranger may define us by our physical possessions, but we are most accurately defined by what possesses us and drives our hearts and minds.

“From the outside, Las Vegas appears to be a land of glitter and flash, but this community is so much deeper than that,” says Erica Linz, President of Circus Couture and star of the film Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D.  “There is a kinship between those who make this the “Entertainment Capital of the World” and the innovators that give their all to make Las Vegas a place where kids are assured a healthy future.  It is an amazing thing to witness when those passions collide.”   With their sister fundraising team Cirque du SoBald, Circus Couture has raised well over a quarter million dollars for pediatric cancer care and research.

Tickets for Circus Couture’s “Possession(s)” may be purchased online at www.circus-couture.com or at www.hardrockhotel.com.  Tickets start at $35.  VIP table reservations may be made by contacting VIP Services at vip@circus-couture.com or by calling 702-732-0952.  For additional information on Circus Couture, visit www.circus-couture.com.
