On Saturday, December 7, Opportunity Village hosted the 15TH annual Las Vegas Great Santa Run in Downtown Las Vegas and were able to gather 6,644 Santa participants from across the world, including 6 countries and 43 states.

All proceeds from the Las Vegas Great Santa Run will go towards the programs and services for adults with disabilities at Opportunity Village.

The race, presented by Circle K, kicked off at the Fremont Street Experience and featured numerous special guests, including 5K Grand Marshal A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, 1-mile Marshals The Chippendales, Santa Claus, Mayor Carolyn Goodman, former Mayor Oscar Goodman, and the organization’s all-Elvis dance troupe – The OV Elvi.

“For 15 years, we’ve been honored to host the Great Santa Run in wonderful Downtown Las Vegas in support of adults with disabilities,” said Adam K. Joseph, Vice President of Philanthropy at Opportunity Village. “This truly could not be done without the Southern Nevada community. From our vendors to volunteers to long-time partners, we’re absolutely thrilled with the support and outcome.”

Additional pre-race entertainment was provided by Gabriella Versace of SEXXY: The Show, Zumba by Kat and Jjohn, a Fit4Mom workout to the late George Dare’s “Run Santa Run”, DJ Mikey P, DJ Jesse Estrada, and mascots from the Vegas Golden Nights, Las Vegas Aces and Las Vegas Aviators. The starting line stage and after-party entertainment stage were hosted by Mark Shunock of Monday’s Dark and featured an impressive line-up of entertainment including Empire Records, WOW! The Vegas Spectacular, Celestia, Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel in Concert, and Kung Pow (DJ).

All Las Vegas Great Santa Run participants received a five-piece Santa suit with their registration and a commemorative medal upon completion. Another highlight of the event was Mena Hawkins, an inspirational young woman with cerebral palsy, not only crossing the finish line, but also raising over $7,200 for Opportunity Village in her fundraising efforts.

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION OPENS FOR 15th ANNUAL LAS VEGAS GREAT SANTA RUN

CHIPPENDALES, FIT4MOM, mascots from the Las Vegas Aviators, Aces and Lights, and more welcome early registration with an early-bird rate of $22 at Fremont Street Experience

On Thursday, June 20, Opportunity Village, along with help from a “vacationing” Santa Claus and a host of guests, brought the holiday spirit early with a Registration Launch Party for the 15th annual Las Vegas Great Santa Run. Mascots from local professional sports teams, the CHIPPENDALES, nationwide fitness group FIT4MOM, and the Tony Marques Band all helped to pump up the crowd and encourage early bird sign-ups for the event on December 7.

Hosted by Sunny 106.5’s Marco and Joanna, the extravaganza took place on the Main Street Stage at Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas. Chosen by online voters, the special 15th anniversary race medal was unveiled, featuring (in true Vegas style) a classic deck of playing cards. Medals were designed by the official medal provider of the Las Vegas Great Santa Run, Running Imp.

George Dare’s “Run, Santa Run!” was accompanied with an on-stage workout from FIT4MOM and the CHIPPENDALES. The show would not have been complete without the performance of “Mele Kalikimaka” by the OV Ukes from the Boyd Gaming Fine and Performing Arts Program at Opportunity Village. Mascots from the Las Vegas Lights, Las Vegas Aces and Las Vegas Aviators also greeted guests and danced along to music sung by the Tony Marques Band.

The Las Vegas Great Santa Run has already attracted participants from all over the world to support the beloved fundraiser. The run is Opportunity Village’s largest single-day fundraising event and continues to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to help support Southern Nevadans with intellectual disabilities. Circle K will once again serve as the Presenting Sponsor for the event. And Opportunity Village is excited to welcome LaLa Photography as the official photographer of the Las Vegas Great Santa Run.

Early bird pricing of $22 is available online from June 20 – June 30. After that, pricing will increase to $30 per person. Registration includes a five-piece Santa suit, swag bag and medal. Pets are also welcomed to join.

Two-Night Spectacular “Deana Sings Dino” in South Point Showroom

Deana Martin fans will be treated to a special show honoring her father, the King of Cool, Dean Martin, on the anniversary of his 100th birthday. Martin will perform two spectacular shows as part of her acclaimed “Deana Sings Dino” concert series with two special guests including The Golddiggers and a mystery addition that will be revealed during the show through the “Surprise Guest Door.”   Show dates are Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. inside the South Point Showroom.

Martin’s weekend of shows will precede the “Deana Martin Celebrity Roast” honoring the ‘Man of the Hour,’ singer, entertainer and host of “The Dennis Bono Show,” Dennis Bono, on Monday, June 26 in the South Point Showroom at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. The celebrity roast honors Bono on his 70th birthday and all proceeds raised will be given to the Opportunity Village. Those wanting to attend the celebrity roast can purchase tickets online or at the South Point Box Office starting at $35.

From the moment she walks on stage, Martin takes her audience on a musical journey with her nonstop dynamic energy celebrating her legendary father Dean Martin and other great performers who shaped American music and popular culture for over four decades. “Deana Sings Dino” is a fully engaging, classy and contemporary presentation of Dean Martin’s most beloved songs of all time, capturing the swinging sophistication associated with her father and his time with The Rat Pack. In this electrifying musical revue, Martin sings hot new arrangements of enduring hits like, “That’s Amore,” “Volare,” “That’s Life,” “Everybody Loves Somebody”, “Memories Are Made Of Thisand more treasured worldwide by her fans, those of her father and two men she refers to as her uncles, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.

These special shows have all the essentials of the classic concert entertainment experience, including legendary musical masterpieces, personal and often hilarious recollections from Martin’s life and career, an entire night of audience interaction and her innate vocal ability. Martin is undeniably authentic and a living connection to the greatest era in entertainment.

As an internationally acclaimed entertainer, Martin has become an instantly recognizable voice and fixture in the pantheon of ‘The Great American Songbook.’ Her 2006 debut CD release, “Memories Are Made of This,” stayed in a top ten sport for 40 consecutive weeks.  Her follow-up CD released in 2009, “Volare,” debuted in the top ten of the Billboard charts, followed by “White Christmas,” released in 2011, the critically acclaimed 2013 hit album, “Destination Moon,” and her latest album released in 2016, “Swing Street,” have all garnered airplay on top radio stations in different genres including jazz, standards and country.

In her memoir, Martin delights in sharing wonderful, never-before-told stories about her father and his ‘pallies.’ To her they were known as, Uncle Frank, as in Frank Sinatra and Uncle Sammy, as in Sammy Davis Jr., but to the rest of the world, they were known as The Rat Pack.

JAG Nevada Students Present $500 Donation to Opportunity Village on May 31

JAG Nevada Students Present $500 Donation
to Opportunity Village on May 31

Las Vegas High School students in the JAG Nevada program (Jobs for America’s Graduates – Nevada) visited Opportunity Village earlier today and presented the organization with a $500 check. Opportunity Village clients and President & CEO Bob Brown were on hand to accept the check from the students and JAG Nevada Director of Data and Program Administration Michele Cody.

“JAG students receive support from the community throughout the year to assist with getting them on the right track to graduate and prepare them for a career after high school,” said Michele Cody. “This time, they decided they wanted to give back to their community, so they chose Opportunity Village to thank them for everything they do and the families they help every single day.”

This donation comes as a result of the “pay it forward” lesson in which the Las Vegas High School JAG Specialist Christina Sa taught her students how to give back on an individual level. The purpose of the process was to teach them social awareness and the importance of giving back to their community.

About JAG Nevada
JAG Nevada is a highly effective dropout intervention and work readiness program. Our mission is to ensure our students Graduate Work Ready. Through our program, high risk students graduate not only on time, but prepared for life after high school and equipped with the practical skills necessary to be successful in the workplace, or to enroll in post-secondary education or the military. Currently serving over 2,500 Nevada high school students in 43 high schools in 12 Nevada counties, JAG Nevada was launched by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval in bipartisan partnership with the Nevada State Legislature to help increase Nevada’s high school graduation rates. Over the past year, OV Nation has participated in over a dozen events, fundraisers and awareness campaigns for Opportunity Village and has independently raised thousands of dollars through fundraising efforts. With a goal of doubling that success, OV Nation has restructured its board and event plans in an effort to attract more business professionals who can be involved and at the same time balance work, life, family and social engagements.

“We’ve found that many local professionals want to become involved in the community and contribute to a cause, but have limited time to give,” said Jennifer Mahar, newly appointed chairperson for OV Nation. She continued, “We have restructured the board and committees so individuals can make an impact on their own schedule, without being required to attend set events or meetings.”

The new OV Nation structure will allow members to participate in four events, four mixers and four meetings per year. The four events will include a mix of existing flagship events such as the Magical Forest and HallOVeen, as well those created, hosted and executed by OV Nation. OV Nation mixers will feature an employee of Opportunity Village as well as an OVIP (Opportunity Village client) to inform guests and potential members about the organization and its services. Member meetings will be held at local restaurants that will allow a percentage of the proceeds to be donated back to Opportunity Village, to serve as both a productive meeting and fundraiser. In addition, OV Nation will also have booths at community events, runs and festivals throughout the year to promote the organization.

For its first event of 2015, OV Nation will host a mixer on Saturday, February 21 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at The Booze District in Henderson. Priced at $30 (plus taxes and fees), the mixer will include a tour of The Booze District and samples at member venues including CraftHaus Brewery, Las Vegas Distillery and Grape Expectations, concluding with appetizers at the final location. Open to anyone at least 21 years of age, the OV Nation mixer will provide guests the opportunity to learn more about the organization and its mission, and become involved with other like-minded emerging professionals interested in giving back to our community.

The mission of OV Nation is to identify, develop and engage a new generation of Opportunity Village brand ambassadors, donors, board members, volunteers and supporters. OV Nation has its own Board of Directors who spearhead the committee’s initiatives including special events, fundraising, networking, teambuilding, volunteering and supporting Opportunity Village’s ongoing programs and goals.
