THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER®: TEAM ROUSEY VS. TEAM TATE CAST REVEALED

Inaugural Season on FOX Sports 1 kicks off with a special two-hour premiere, Wednesday, September 4 at 10 p.m. ET

Thirty-two bantamweight fighters compete for 16 exclusive spots and a chance to work with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and rival Miesha Tate, as coaches

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, history will be made as the Ultimate Fighting Championship®’s long-running reality series, The Ultimate Fighter®, makes its debut on America’s new sports network, FOX Sports 1. UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and No.1 title contender Miesha Tate serve as coaches in the first ever season to feature women as coaches and cast members. The Ultimate Fighter®: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate kicks off with a two-hour premiere beginning at 10 p.m. ET.

In this 18th edition of the series, 16 men and 16 women bantamweight (135 lbs.) fighters will face off in the most challenging sports tournament on television. The premiere episode will determine the eight men and eight women who will successfully move into The Ultimate Fighter house and compete for a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a six-figure contract with the UFC®

Catch a series preview here

The successful fighters will then be divided into two teams, coached by Rousey and Tate respectively. The series will follow the teams as they live and train together in preparation for their fights. The coaches will then face off in the Octagon® for the women’s bantamweight title on Saturday, Dec. 28, at UFC® 168: WEIDMAN vs. SILVA at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

“This season of The Ultimate Fighter was monumental, as we had women as coaches and competitors – fighting and living together with the men – for the first time ever,” UFC president Dana White said. “Obviously the fierce rivalry between Ronda and Miesha is going to get everyone’s attention, but it doesn’t take away from their dedication and success as coaches and the level of talent this season. One of the things that always makes The Ultimate Fighter great is the fights, and this season continues to deliver. Since we added the women’s division earlier this year, they’ve been putting on awesome fights, and the streak continues on the show, giving the men some serious competition and setting up some Fight-of-the-Night worthy battles.”

“FOX Sports 1 is now the exclusive home of the UFC. To have a show that packs this kind of power and gives our viewers a raw, emotional look into becoming an MMA professional is reality television at it’s best. We can’t wait for the September 4th premiere,” said FOX Sports 1 Co-president Eric Shanks.

The Ultimate Fighter®: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate will anchor FOX Sports 1’s UFC Wednesday block and run for 13 weeks. Each episode’s winners will advance in the single-elimination tournament, which will culminate in a three-hour finale, live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 30. Tickets set to go on sale to the public on October 11.

FIELD FINALIZED FOR THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER® ON FX

TUF™ Moves to Tuesday Nights

Season Begins With Special Two-Hour Premiere
Tuesday, January 22 on FX at 8 P.M. ET/PT

UFC® Champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and Title Challenger Chael Sonnen
To Coach Seven-Man Teams of Middleweights

Tuesdays just got TUF. On January 22, some of the world’s most talented and determined mixed martial artists will face-off in the most grueling sports tournament on television. Watch as 28 mixed martial arts prospects battle for a coveted spot on the new season of The Ultimate Fighter®, which begins with a special two-hour premiere airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

The Ultimate Fighter, the Ultimate Fighting Championship®’s long-running reality television series, will run for 13 weeks and will culminate in a three-hour finale, live from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. Unlike previous seasons on FX, the one-hour broadcast will now be shown on Tuesday nights at its new regularly scheduled timeslot of 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The 14 successful combatants will be divided into two teams, which will be coached by two of the fiercest rivals in all of sport. UFC® light heavyweight champion and MMA superstar, Jon “Bones” Jones will captain one team, while the controversial and charismatic challenger Chael Sonnen will lead the second team into battle in this, the 17th installment of the series.

The coaches will then collide for the light heavyweight title on Saturday, April 27, at UFC® 159: JONES vs. SONNEN at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Not surprisingly, both Jones and Sonnen will be bringing their trademark self-confidence into their stints as coaches this season on The Ultimate Fighter.

“I thought it would be a good way to share myself with the sport of MMA,” Jones said. “I embrace the role.”

Said Sonnen: “The hottest show on FX is being graced with the greatest talent God ever made: Chael P. Sonnen.’’

The list of finalists in the middleweight (185 pounds) division was trimmed from more than 250 applicant athletes. The fighters – all seeking the opportunity of a lifetime and a six-figure contract from the Ultimate Fighting Championship – hail from the United States, Australia, England and Sweden.

“The quality of guys we have this season in unbelievable,” said UFC President Dana White. “From the fights to get into the house, to every single fight this season, I think the talent is some of the best I’ve ever seen on this show. THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER FRIDAYS EPISODE 4: ‘CAN’T FIX STUPID’

EPISODE 4: ‘CAN’T FIX STUPID’
FLASH QUOTES

TEAM CARWIN PULLS AHEAD AS MARUNDE DEFEATS LANE

The Ultimate Fighter® Fridays episode four – ‘Can’t fix stupid’ – aired on FX on Friday evening and saw Team Carwin take the lead in the competition.

Las Vegas native Bristol Marunde, 12-7 in his mixed martial arts career, defeated Julian “Night Train” Lane, 4-0, of Mansfield, Ohio by unanimous decision to see coach Shane Carwin’s squad go 2-1 in the season.

Experience proved to be the difference in the bout, which was recorded at the TUFTM Gym in Las Vegas. Marunde, 30, has been fighting professionally since 2007, working his way through regional MMA promotions before facing the highly-ranked Renaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza in the STRIKEFORCE® organization earlier this year.

Happy to make it to the second round, Marunde said: “I was relieved to get the first fight out of the way. I didn’t fight smart at all – I was trying to force a finish and suffered some pretty bad damage to my face as a result. It was worth it, though. Team Carwin was fired up to get a win and just as happy to have control of the fight pick again.”

Team Nelson’s final team pick, a father of a two-year-old daughter with another child on the way, was disappointed not to advance in the competition.

He said: “It was a tough fight, I wish I had pushed it harder to make it go to the sudden victory round. I wish I would have taken control and not backed-up. It was a hard loss. I don’t ever want to feel that way again. I’m going to use the pain I felt and grow from this experience.”

Tickets for The Ultimate Fighter® Finale – headlined by Carwin vs Nelson – go on sale Friday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. PT and are priced at $304, $254, $179, $154, $104 and $79. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit the Hard Rock Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, www.ticketmaster.com, www.thejointlasvegas.com or charge-by-phone at 800.745.3000.

HEAVYWEIGHTS CARWIN AND NELSON COACH TUF ON FX

HEAVYWEIGHTS SHANE CARWIN AND ROY NELSON TO COACH
UPCOMING SEASON OF
THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER ® ON FX

FILMING STARTS SOON FOR SEPTEMBER PREMIERE

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization is proud to announce the coaches for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter®are interim UFC heavyweight champion Shane Carwin and top heavyweight contender Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson.

Taping for the show’s second season on FX will begin in early August, with the debut episode slated to air in September.

UFC President Dana White said: “This is going to be a very interesting dynamic between these two heavyweights. They both have huge punching power and great chins but, outside of the Octagon, they couldn’t be more different. These two have been going at it on social media for a while and don’t seem to like each other very much, but they are going to be seeing a lot of each other during this series and I guarantee it’ll make for great TV.”

“Working with Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta and Craig Piligian on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter on FX was one of the highlights of my professional career,” said Chuck Saftler, Executive Vice President, FX Networks. “I’m thrilled to be able to continue this working relationship, and I’m extremely confident we’re going to make season two the best possible viewing experience for UFC fans.”

Carwin, 12-2 in his mixed martial arts career, is unquestionably one of the hardest one-shot punchers in the entire sport. He knocked out the likes of Christian Wellisch, Gabriel Gonzaga and Frank Mir en route to winning the interim UFC heavyweight title in 2010. Now fully healthy after back surgery, the former NCAA Division II champion asked for the chance to coach the next generation of UFC stars on the longest-running sports reality TV series in the world.

“I’m very excited to get this opportunity. Coaching TUF is something I asked for and really wanted to do,” said Carwin. “I see myself being an MMA coach when my own career is over and can’t wait to start working with my Grudge Training team to help the next generation of UFC stars achieve their dreams.

“I also asked to coach against Roy Nelson. The fans know how I like to conduct myself both in and out of the Octagon, and I respect every fighter, coach, official and fan in the UFC. But I cannot respect a man like Roy Nelson – because he shows no respect himself. He is a keyboard warrior who doesn’t have the guts to talk trash to my face, but now he’s going to have to be in the same room, the same gym and finally the same Octagon as me.

“I know I am a better fighter and trainer than he is. I will prove I’m a better trainer in TUF and then, when we fight, I will hit him harder than anyone has ever hit him and teach him some respect.”

Roy Nelson, 17-7 in his MMA career, has been called one of the toughest fighters in any division. Already an experienced campaigner when he entered The Ultimate Fighter house in 2009, ‘Big Country’ defeated Kimbo Slice and Brendan Schaub to become the season 10 TUF champion, before going on to knockout Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop and, most recently, Dave Herman. Nelson is the fifth TUF champion to return to the series as a coach, following Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Michael Bisping and Matt Serra.

Las Vegas native Nelson said: “When I found out I was going to be a TUF coach I was like ‘Wow me!’ When I found out I was coaching against Shane Carwin I was so happy to get a chance to compete against this guy. As for being in the same room as him, I try not hang out with people that make me feel icky on the inside but, to coach TUF, I will make an exception.
“Shane Carwin can think he is the better fighter and coach, but I will do my best and try to represent the Average Joe and show my team that, with hard work, you can walk away a winner against any fighter.”

In other TUF news, filming for The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs UK – the Smashes starts in Sydney, Australia this Monday with coaches  George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson.

BELO HORIZONTE TO HOST UFC® 147 ON JUNE 23

BELO HORIZONTE TO HOST UFC® 147 ON JUNE 23

  • Traditional indoor sporting arena “Mineirinho” to receive the third UFC event held on Brazilian soil in less than one year
  • Agreement to be made official on May 15th, during a meeting between government officials, UFC and IMX representatives; UFC 147 star and TUF coach Vitor Belfort to attend
  • Event features highly anticipated rematch between The Ultimate Fighter Brazil® coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva, as well as the first Brazilian TUF finals

Minas Gerais will be the second Brazilian state to host an Ultimate Fighting Championship® event. On June 23, the “Mineirinho” arena, in Belo Horizonte, will host the UFC® 147, marking the third passage of the organization through Brazil under the Zuffa management. The biggest and one of the most traditional indoor sporting arenas in Brazil, “Mineirinho” fulfilled all of the UFC requirements, rising up as an ideal place to host a show in accordance with the high standards of all the international events and marking the expansion of the UFC throughout the country. Considered one of the biggest markets for the UFC worldwide, next to the United States and Canada, Brazil has already hosted two events, both in Rio de Janeiro.

“It is great for our fans and for the UFC to be able to stage events in new parts of Brazil. The UFC is exploding everywhere in the country and Minas Gerais, being the third biggest state in the country, seemed like the perfect place for this. Not only has Mineirinho received some major acts through the years, but it is also located in a central and touristic area of the city. It will certainly be a fantastic experience for the fans”, says Marshall Zelaznik, UFC Managing Director of International Development.

The deal was settled last Wednesday, May 9, when Minas Gerais officials Marcello Faulhaber, Secretary for Development of the City of Belo Horizonte, and Agostinho Patrus Filho, Secretary of State for Tourism, met with IMX representatives Sergio Mello, Vice President of Operations and Special Projects, and José Roberto Pacheco, Vice-President of Commercial. Next week, on May 16, UFC representatives Zelaznik and Jaime Pollack, Vice President of International Development & GM – Latin America, will meet with City officials in Belo Horizonte to celebrate the agreement. They will also be joined by IMX representatives and UFC legend and UFC 147 star Vitor Belfort.

Long awaited Belfort vs. Silva rematch to headline UFC 147

The finale of the first Brazilian version of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter® brings as its main attraction the rematch between TUF coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva, who meet in the Octagon® over 14 years after their first encounter. The event will also crown the winners of both weight divisions featured on TUF, with two UFC contracts on the line.

Fans will get a chance to see up close the long awaited rematch between Vitor Belfort (21-9-0) and Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1), who meet again for the first time since 1998. Back then, in São Paulo, under the previous management of the UFC, Vitor knocked out Wanderlei within 44 seconds of the bout. Since then, MMA fans have been craving a rematch. Belfort is coming off a win over American fighter Anthony Johnson in UFC Rio (UFC 142), whereas Wanderlei knocked out Cung Le in UFC 139.

The finalists of each weight division featured on the show, which will have its last episode aired on the Sunday before the event, will face off on the main card. The two winners – a featherweight and a middleweight – will receive contracts with the biggest MMA promotion in the world.
