WHAT:                      In partnership with American Red Cross of Southern Nevada, Shark Reef Aquarium will host a blood drive Friday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada satellite location will be located in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Room South Pacific J. All participating donors will receive one complimentary admission to Shark Reef Aquarium and the Undersea Explorer Virtual Reality Theater. Vouchers valid through December 30, 2020 and reservations are required in advance due to capacity limitations.

The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center expansion is now complete with this month’s opening of the 70,000-square-foot Oceanside Ballroom. The $70 million expansion includes 350,000 square feet of new exhibit space, a 20,000-square-foot foyer and underground parking, which all opened in August. The Mandalay Bay Convention Center now boasts more than 2 million total square feet and over 900,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space with the ability to grow current shows and attract new corporate, association and incentive groups.

With the expansion’s completion, the final phase of Mandalay Bay’s resort-wide, multi-year transformation is the $100 million redesign of more than 3,000 guest rooms and suites, wrapping up in February.  The resort, with three hotels including Delano Las Vegas, new world-class dining, high-energy entertainment, nightlife and more, offers infinite possibilities and flexibility for meeting planners to customize their events from large, premium tradeshows and corporate gatherings to intimate executive meetings and incentive experiences.

Further solidifying what already is the largest convention center solar array in the world, the expanded Mandalay Bay Convention Center is incorporating an additional rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) array spanning 8 acres. Upon completion in early 2016, the added portion of the array will generate approximately 1.9 MW with an approximate annual production of 3.4M kilowatt hours. Covering more than 28 acres, the combined array will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 1,300 homes.

Las Vegas’ Premier Meetings and Convention Destination Completes Underground Parking Garage, Construction Footings and Columns


Group business is booming and so is construction on the Mandalay Bay Convention Center expansion, adding 350,000 square feet of exhibit space, more carpeted ballroom space and 900 underground parking spaces for a total of more than 2 million square feet. The foundation has been laid and the underground garage, construction footings and columns all have been completed.

The $66 million project is on schedule to welcome its first attendees in August, with the anticipated completion of the entire expansion and renovation in January 2016.

Construction began in October 2014 and since then 88,000 cubic yards of dirt have been excavated, 29,115 cubic yards of concrete poured and 200 construction jobs created. Forming the framework of the expansion’s Phase I is 335 tons of joists, 650 tons of trusses, 1,600 tons of structural steel and 548 tons of decking.

With the Mandalay Bay Convention Center expansion, Mandalay Bay can accommodate growing tradeshows as well as attract new shows with over 900,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space. The added carpeted space will allow for more corporate groups and associations. The project represents the continued commitment Mandalay Bay is making to the meetings and convention industry and to Las Vegas, the No. 1 trade show destination.

WHAT: Taxpayers are invited to drop off their federal tax returns at Mandalay Bay on tax day, Monday, April 15.

From noon to 8 p.m., guests can drive up and drop off their returns at the special Shark Reef Station located in the parking area
outside of Shark Reef Aquarium. Taxpayers who mail their federal returns from Shark Reef Aquarium will receive a voucher for onecomplimentary admission valid through May 24.

The United States Postal Service also will set up a special mobile postal station with postage available for purchase, including the
Save Vanishing Species stamp. Proceeds from the sale of this stamp support conservation efforts directed at targeted endangered
species including marine turtles, tigers, elephants, rhinoceros and great apes.

Convenient access to the Shark Reef Postal Station is available through the Mandalay Bay Convention Center parking lot located off Russell Road, near I-15.
