Since 2002, Rogan has provided commentary for the UFC which airs on Pay-Per-View outlets and FOX. UFC GYM Hires Hannibal Myers as President

UFC GYM® has appointed Hannibal Myers as the President of its franchise division, effective immediately. Last January, UFC GYM announced the acquisition of LA Boxing, converting over 80 locations in the last 12 months and growing to 100 locations worldwide currently. Myers will play an integral role in developing the overall franchise strategy for UFC GYM to capitalize on opportunities in the health and fitness marketplace.

 

Myers brings more than 20 years of executive franchise experience, both domestically and internationally, for companies such as Taco Bell, KFC, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Quizno’s and Shoney’s. The Texas native has pioneered non-traditional franchise development, contributing various articles to trade publications and delivering a number of related industry speeches. In this position, Myers will oversee all facets of franchise development, strategy, marketing, operations and finances.

Last night, (Monday, Dec. 30) PURE Nightclub at Caesars Palace kicked off the New Year’s festivities with a live performance by R&B phenomenon The Weeknd. The award-winning hot spot opened its doors for a very special affair to welcome the return of the talented recording artist.

Arriving around 1 a.m. the sultry Canadian sensation, also known as Abel Tesfaye, made his way to his VIP booth on the main stage while he took in the sights of the packed room. Moments later, the highly acclaimed lyricist took center stage as he introduced himself and took over the mic, leaving his fans in awe. “I go by the name of The Weeknd,” he stated, “I came all the way from Toronto to party with you all tonight.” The nightclub roared with excitement as he mentioned to the crowd that he was celebrating one of this friend’s birthdays and gave a special shout out to his personal DJ XO.

He kicked off the night with his hit “I’m Good,” where following the song informed the crowd that it was his first time performing the track in Las Vegas. The Weeknd had his fans on their feet as he led into “Live For,” and “Crew Love,” both songs whom he worked with fellow Canadian and GRAMMY Award-winning rapper Drake to produce. To close out his memorable performance, the R&B singer told the crowd that he’d be back soon to Sin City and fittingly his fans would enjoy his last song of the night “Remember You.”

The Weeknd thanked his admirers for coming out as he took the time to mingle with a few lucky ladies before heading back to his table. Also in attendance, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, was seen in high spirits sipping cocktails with friends and taking in the performance from his VIP table.

Following his performance at PURE Nightclub, The Weeknd made his way to Ling Ling Club located inside Hakkasan Las Vegas at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino where hundreds of party patrons waited in anticipation to catch a glimpse of the music icon. As celebrated DJ Irie manned the decks, he announced the arrival of the artist and the entire nightclub was on their feet eagerly watching for the artist to make his introduction. Appearing in the DJ booth, The Weeknd hopped on the mic to address his fans and began to put on his second special performance of the evening. Afterwards he thanked his fans for their support and made his way back to his VIP booth to mingle with fans and party the night away in true Las Vegas fashion.

Fans Cast 11 Million Votes in First Ever EA SPORTS UFC Cover Vote Presented by MetroPCS

COURT RULING SUPPORTS ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP’S FIGHT TO LEGALIZE MIXED MARTIAL ARTS IN NEW YORK

 

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®), and plaintiffs in the Jones v. Schneiderman case, are pleased to announce that yesterday the Federal District Court found that their challenge to the constitutionality of New York’s ban on mixed martial arts (MMA) can go forward. The court recognized that the State Athletic Commission and the Attorney General have repeatedly changed position on whether amateur and professional MMA can occur lawfully in the state of New York, which plaintiffs argue renders the ban unconstitutionally vague. While other claims in the lawsuit were dismissed, the UFC and plaintiffs are prepared to win their case and defeat the ban with the court’s green light on the vagueness challenge.

“We are extremely pleased with the judge’s decision and looking forward to moving to a prompt and successful conclusion,” said Barry Friedman, who is representing the plaintiffs with Morrison & Foerster as co-counsel.

Zuffa LLC, which owns the UFC, filed a federal lawsuit in New York challenging the state’s ban on professional MMA in 2011. Of the 48 states with athletic commissions, New York is the only state that has a ban on the sport. New York passed a law prohibiting MMA events in 1997 identifying it as a “combative sport” unlike boxing, wrestling or karate which are legal. The UFC produces over 30 live events a year, broadcast in 882 million homes in more than 145 countries, with an adopted set of rules and regulations to ensure the safety of the sport.

“We are pleased with the outcome of this crucial ruling. The inconsistency has cost the UFC considerable time and expense, but more important it has deprived MMA’s countless New York fans of the opportunity to attend and enjoy live professional and amateur MMA events in New York,” said Ike Lawrence Epstein, UFC’s COO. “It is time for New York to have a new law on MMA, one that legalizes the sport and regulates it in a safe way, as all other states have done. New York’s law is outdated, written at a time when MMA was a very different sport.”

Several fighters are plaintiffs in the case challenging the constitutionality of the ban including UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, as well as UFC superstars Frankie Edgar, Matt Hamill, and Brian Stann.

Should the case not be resolved at the District Court level, plaintiffs intend to appeal the First Amendment ruling.

ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP TO HOST FIGHT FOR THE TROOPS™ EVENT ON FOX SPORTS 1

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) and FOX Sports 1 have joined forces to present UFC Fight For The Troops, a special three-hour live televised event on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. ET, to raise funds for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund in support of the brave men and women serving our nation in the United States Armed Forces. Headlined by Army Green Beret Tim Kennedy and featuring armed forces veterans Liz Carmouche and Colton Smith, the fights will be attended by thousands of soldiers from Fort Campbell, home to the only Air Assault Division in the world, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Squaring off against Kennedy in the main event will be former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida.  In the coming weeks, www.ufcfightforthetroops.com will be live and will have the most up to date details on the fight card as well as information about ways to donate or bid on exclusive auction items like VIP experiences, premium autograph merchandise and other collectibles.

To date the UFC has hosted two UFC Fight For The Troopevents (2008 and 2011) that helped raise $4 million for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and The National Intrepid Center of Excellence, an advanced research facility in Bethseda, MD dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of military personnel and veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health issues.

About The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a national leader in supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and their families, has provided more than $150 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. The Fund most recently opened the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) to support the research, diagnosis, and treatment of military personnel and veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI).  In 2013 the Fund launched a new $100 million campaign to build nine NICoE satellite centers at major military bases around the country.  These satellite centers will extend the care provided at NICoE to more service members and veterans suffering TBI, PTS and related afflictions.

Inaugural Season on FOX Sports 1 kicks off with a special two-hour premiere, Wednesday, September 4 at 10 p.m. ET 

Thirty-two bantamweight fighters compete for 16 exclusive spots and a chance to work with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and rival Miesha Tate, as coaches

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, history will be made as the Ultimate Fighting Championship®’s long-running reality series, The Ultimate Fighter®, makes its debut on America’s new sports network, FOX Sports 1. UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and No.1 title contender Miesha Tate serve as coaches in the first ever season to feature women as coaches and cast members. The Ultimate Fighter®: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate kicks off with a two-hour premiere beginning at 10 p.m. ET.

In this 18th edition of the series, 16 men and 16 women bantamweight (135 lbs.) fighters will face off in the most challenging sports tournament on television. The premiere episode will determine the eight men and eight women who will successfully move into The Ultimate Fighter house and compete for a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a six-figure contract with the UFC®

The successful fighters will then be divided into two teams, coached by Rousey and Tate respectively. The series will follow the teams as they live and train together in preparation for their fights. The coaches will then face off in the Octagon® for the women’s bantamweight title on Saturday, Dec. 28, at UFC® 168: WEIDMAN vs. SILVA at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

“This season of The Ultimate Fighter was monumental, as we had women as coaches and competitors – fighting and living together with the men – for the first time ever,” UFC president Dana White said. “Obviously the fierce rivalry between Ronda and Miesha is going to get everyone’s attention, but it doesn’t take away from their dedication and success as coaches and the level of talent this season. One of the things that always makes The Ultimate Fighter great is the fights, and this season continues to deliver. Since we added the women’s division earlier this year, they’ve been putting on awesome fights, and the streak continues on the show, giving the men some serious competition and setting up some Fight-of-the-Night worthy battles.”

The Ultimate Fighter®: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate will anchor FOX Sports 1’s UFC Wednesday block and run for 13 weeks. Each episode’s winners will advance in the single-elimination tournament, which will culminate in a three-hour finale, live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 30. Tickets set to go on sale to the public on October 11.
