About the Hollywood Foreign Press Association
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) was founded in 1943 as the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association (HFCA) by a group of entertainment journalists representing world media in Hollywood, who realized the need to unite and organize to gain the recognition and access to studios and talent accorded to the domestic press. All qualified journalists were accepted, with the bold goal of “Unity Without Discrimination of Religion or Race.” A year later, the HFCA created the Golden Globe Awards which, to this day, the entire membership selects, votes on and awards every year for outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television. This year, the HFPA will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards. Members of the HFPA represent 56 countries with a combined readership of 250 million in some of the world’s most respected publications. Each year, the organization holds the third most watched awards show on television, the Golden Globe® Awards, which has enabled the organization to donate $30 million to entertainment-related charities, scholarship programs and humanitarian efforts over the last 25 years. Last year, the HFPA distributed $3 million in grants through their Charitable Trust to a diverse group of organizations and institutions within the entertainment industry. Hip Hop and R&B legend R. Kelly announced today that he’ll be giving music fans the concert event of the year at Mandalay Bay Events Center on November 7. R. Kelly will be joined by special guests Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Common for this one night event, presented by AEG Live and the 2015 Soul Train Awards Weekend. Soul Train Awards Weekend will take over Las Vegas November 5-8. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 16 at 10:00am PDT at www.mandalaybay.com or www.Ticketmaster.com.

In an era marked for its reliance on autotune crooning, R. Kelly embodies the best traditions of American music as a vocalist, songwriter and producer. His music has influenced numerous hip hop and R&B artists and he has written and produced singles for Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, and many others. Kelly has had numerous hit singles including “Bump N’ Grind,” “Ignition (Remix),” “The World’s Greatest” and the ground breaking hip-hopera “Trapped in the Closet.” Kelly’s most recognizable hit, “I Believe I Can Fly,” won three Grammy Awards and was named by Rolling Stone as one of the top 500 songs of all time. Commonly referred to as the “King of R&B,” R. Kelly is one of the best-selling artists in the United States with over 40 million albums sold. For more information on R. Kelly, visit r-kelly.com, Facebook or Twitter.

Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds is an 11-time Grammy winner with 11 solo albums of his own, whose impeccably crafted explorations of love, romance and relationships have made an indelible imprint on the evolution of contemporary pop music throughout the world. Edmonds is the recipient of numerous awards, including Soul Train Music Awards, BMI Awards, NAACP Image Awards and American Music Awards. He was also the third recipient after Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston of the BET Walk of Fame Award. Edmonds’ most recent production with other artists includes Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande and Aretha Franklin. His newest album, The Return of the Tender Lover, is a nod to his RIAA triple-platinum album Tender Lover and will be released on December 4, 2015 by Def Jam Recordings. For more information on Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, visit babyfacemusic.com, Facebook or Twitter.

Academy Award-winning rapper Common debuted in the early nineties as a fresh new alternative to the popular gangsta rap genre of the time. His spoken-word poetry style was an instant hit in the underground hip hop scene and his debut album Can I Borrow a Dollar? won over indie fans and critics alike. To date, he’s released ten chart-topping albums including 2007’s Finding Forever, which peaked at Number One on the Billboard Pop chart. Common has won multiple Grammy and BET awards, and most recently, took home the 2015 Academy Award for Best Original Song with singer John Legend for “Glory,” the inspiring theme song to the Academy Award-nominated film, Selma. Photos: Common Performs at Marquee; Whitney Port Spotted at TAO

Monday night, rapper Common hosted the official Creative Recreation party at Marquee Nightclub. Sporting a pair of Creative Recreation shoes, Common walked the red carpet before heading inside where he took over a VIP table near the dance floor with several friends. Shortly after, the rapper took center stage to treat the crowd to a high energy performance of some of his biggest hits including “Make Her Say,” “Go” and “Universal Mind Control.” While on stage, Common interacted heavily with the packed dance floor, holding several excited fans’ hands from the stage, taking photos and even including a few shout outs to certain partygoers during his impromptu freestyle rap. The surprise freestyle incorporated everything from Creative Recreation to Las Vegas to Marquee. With one particular line, “get live like we at the Marquee, say we came to party!” he ignited a “we came to party” chant from the excited crowd. Upon finishing his performance, he returned to his table and enjoyed the sounds from DJ Politik.

Television personality and fashion designer Whitney Port dined at TAO Asian Bistro. Joined by two friends, the trio sipped white wine and enjoyed the restaurant’s signature Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass.

Jackson, David Beckham, Larry King, Quincy Jones, Ken Jeong, Buzz Aldrin, Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J, Common, Lenny Kravitz, Sean Combs, Anthony Hopkins, John Legend, Chris Cornell, Cee Lo Green, Joe Perry, Slash, Terrence Howard, Kris Kristofferson, David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy, Andre Agassi, Stefanie Graf, Jim Brown, Randy Couture, Brad Garrett, Kelly Rowland, Dave Koz, Robin Leach, James Gandolfini, Steve Schirripa, John Paul DeJoria, Tony Danza, Raphael Saadiq, Haley Reinhart, and Sammy Hagar.  Boxing icons who attended include Manny Pacquiao, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Evander Holyfield, Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers, Leon Spinks, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini and Tommy “Hitman” Hearns.

In keeping with its 16-year history, the Power of Love Gala showcased a celebrity-chef-packed dinner featuring creations by Tom Colicchio, Scott Conant, Michael Mina and Wolfgang Puck. Guests were treated to a Dom Perignon reception and were able to bid on one-of-a-kind live and silent auction items, including Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves he wore to defeat Floyd Patterson in Las Vegas in 1965 and an extravagant vacation of a lifetime for two couples on David Copperfield’s private island in the Bahamas.

The gala’s celebration for Ali aligns with the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health’s recent launch of a landmark study examining the long-term brain health of professional fighters. Aiming to improve the safety and health of fighters, the study will help determine whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, along with other tests, can detect subtle changes in brain health that correlate with impaired thinking and functioning.  Researchers hope the information uncovered by this research will eventually result in better ways to prevent permanent brain injury in not only fighters, but also in others who may suffer from brain trauma.

The Power of Love Gala was produced by Bill Edwards Presents Inc. and supported by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Muhammad Ali Enterprises and Keep Memory Alive, the fundraising arm of the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. The star-studded celebration for Ali honored the boxing legend’s contribution to the world and raised awareness for Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, ALS, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
