dick clark productions and ABC today announced that multi-platinum artist Nicki Minaj will open the “2017 Billboard Music Awards“ with an epic 9-minute performance featuring special guests Lil Wayne, Jason Derulo and David Guetta. 2017 marks the fourth appearance for Minaj on the Billboard Music Awards stage, as well as her first television performance since breaking Aretha Franklin’s long-standing record for Female Artist charting the most songs on the Billboard Hot 100.  Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens will host the “2017 Billboard Music Awards along with previously announced performers on the broadcast Camila Cabello, The Chainsmokers, Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion, Drake, Florida Georgia Line, Halsey, Sam Hunt, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Lorde, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and 2017 Billboard Music Awards ICON Award recipient, Cher. The “2017 Billboard Music Awards” will broadcast LIVE on both coasts from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.

Rock in Rio USA has announced the availability of single day general admission tickets for the upcoming festival taking place May 8-9, 15-16 in Las Vegas.  Starting today, single day general admission tickets will be available for $169 for each date at rockinrio.com/tickets, while supplies last. Rock in Rio, the legendary music festival celebrating its 30th anniversary worldwide, will make its U.S. debut by welcoming full-set performances from some of the biggest names in music including Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Metallica, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Maná, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Jessie J, among others.
Rock in Rio USA: Complete Lineup
Rock in Rio will take over the Las Vegas Strip on May 8-9, 15-16. The first weekend, dedicated to rock music, will feature No Doubt, Metallica, Linkin Park, Maná, The Pretty Reckless, and Hollywood Undead on the Main Stage. Mercedes Benz Evolution Stage performers for the first weekend include Foster the People, Deftones, Sepultura (featuring Steve Vai), Gary Clark Jr, Bleachers, Coheed and Cambria, Saints of Valory, Smallpools and Of Mice & Men.

The City of Rock in Las Vegas will also feature three Rock Streets – themed streets that will welcome attendees to experience an entirely new and exciting kind of music festival, and to enjoy the eclectic cultures of the U.S., the UK and Brazil.

Each street has 20 houses filled with shops and restaurants, along with a stage where bands and artists will perform throughout the day. Street artists and performers will also transform the street into their own stage, interacting and connecting with the audience in an intimate environment. Rock Street will open daily at 3 PM, with concerts and performances taking place until 1:30 AM when doors close.

The City of Rock, an open-air concert venue, will be located on The Strip near the corner of Sahara Avenue and spread out over 40 acres.  With a capacity of 85,000 people per day, the venue will also include a ferris wheel and a 64 foot high zip line that stretches 600 feet across in front of the Main Stage, which is 262 feet long. The venue also includes a VIP area that can accommodate up to 4,000 people, featuring air conditioning, an all-inclusive buffet, an open bar (certain premium liquors available for additional purchase) and a unique view of the City of Rock.

Doors for the City of Rock open at 3pm and close at 1:30 AM; the Sunset Stage and the three Rock Streets start their performances at 3:30 PM and the Main Stage opens at 5:30 PM.

To secure your spot for Rock in Rio USA, visit rockinrio.com/tickets and choose your preferred section (General Admission or VIP), customers in the USA and Canada will have their wristbands shipped to them and international customers will pick-up their passes at will call. Wristbands will be shipped beginning in April 2015. Inside the venue, all purchases, concessions and merchandise, will be cashless using RFID wristband technology.

General admission and VIP passes provide access to more than 10 hours of music and entertainment each day, as well as all attractions inside the venue. Re-entry is allowed once each day – wristbands must be scanned upon exit at the gate in order to re-enter that same day. FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR THE “2015 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS”

With help from hip-hop artist and actor Ludacris, TV host and supermodel Chrissy Teigen, Fall Out Boy musician Pete Wentz, and “Empire” recording artist Jussie Smollett, dick clark productions and Billboard announced the finalists for the “2015 Billboard Music Awards,” honoring the year’s most successful artists in 41 categories.  The “2015 Billboard Music Awards” will broadcast LIVE from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 17, on ABC from 8:00 PM–11:00 PM ET.  This year’s show will showcase big performances, unexpected collaborations and pop culture moments that will have everyone talking.  The “2015 Billboard Music Awards” is produced by dick clark productions.  Allen Shapiro, Mike Mahan, Mark Bracco, Barry Adelman and Robert Deaton are Executive Producers.

Ludacris and Wentz appeared in the 8:00 AM ET hour of ABC’s “Good Morning America” today, to announce five of the 41 finalist categories, including: Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Hot 100 Song. Wentz also announced Fall Out Boy’s participation as a performer in this year’s Billboard Music Awards. They will be performing “Uma Thurman” with Wiz Khalifa.

The “2015 Billboard Music Awards” finalists’ announcement then went bicoastal, with Teigen and Smollett announcing the remaining categories at a press conference in the Twitter offices in Santa Monica, CA. The press conference was live tweeted from the official Billboard Music Awards handle (@OfficialBBMAs). Finalists for this category include Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainor. Voting opens on April 28.

Taylor Swift is top among all finalists with 14 entries in 13 categories, while Sam Smith is a finalist in an equal 13 categories with 13 entries. The two go head-to-head for eight of the show’s biggest awards including Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist and Top Digital Songs Artist. Swift is a two-time finalist for Top Streaming Song (Video) for her Billboard chart toppers “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.”

Iggy Azalea is a finalist in 11 categories with 12 entries, competing against herself for Top Rap Song for her hits “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX and “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora. Newcomer Meghan Trainor is the artist with the fourth-most finalist categories, competing against Azalea for the title of Top New Artist, in addition to eight other categories.

The “2015 Billboard Music Awards” are set to return to ABC and will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 17 at 8:00pm ET/PT. The show will showcase this year’s hottest and biggest music stars.  Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of March 10, 2014 through March 8, 2015.  The “2015 Billboard Music Awards” is produced by dick clark productions. Rock in Rio announced today sponsorship agreement with Mercedes-Benz to serve as official sponsor for the upcoming Rock in Rio USA music festival taking place May 8-9 and May 15-16 in Las Vegas. The agreement includes Mercedes-Benz having naming rights of the Sunset Stage that will be named Mercedes-Benz Evolution Stage.  

The Rock in Rio partnership represents a natural build on the luxury brand’s involvement in producing consumer-facing music events, which began with last year’s groundbreaking multi-city Mercedes-Benz Evolution Tour. This year, Mercedes-Benz will further present consumers with experiences that showcase the evolution of the brand and tap into key consumer passion points.

Since its inception, Rock in Rio has embraced sponsors and brands as part of its DNA: in 1985, the first edition of the festival was sponsored by the biggest beer brand in Brazil with an investment of 25 million dollars and gathered 1.3 million people over 10 days of festival.  Nowadays, the festival has expanded to 3 countries and was attended by more than 7.4 million people. Brooklyn Bowl’s famous fried chicken inspired Driscoll to create the Fried Chicken Martini in honor of the venue’s first anniversary. This celebratory libation incorporates Tito’s Handmade Vodka, which was infused with fried chicken for two weeks. The fried chicken vodka is then poured into a glass dipped in a touch of honey imported directly from the Mexican honey farm belonging to Blue Ribbon Restaurants founder Bruce Bromberg. The honeyed rim is then dipped in the restaurant’s signature fried chicken seasoning and garnished with a boneless piece of fried chicken skewered with a sprig of rosemary. Executive Chef Dermot Driscoll’s inventive creation will be available for a limited time.

This year, in its first week, “1989” sold 1.287 million copies, making it the highest selling album released in 2014. Swift is the first recipient of the Dick Clark Award for Excellence, given to an artist who achieves a groundbreaking feat or creates a landmark work.  It is to be bestowed upon someone whose spirit and excellence capture the visionary passion that Dick Clark himself incorporated into everything he did.

Clark, the creator of the 42-year-old American Music Awards, influenced popular music in America for six decades. He was known for maintaining a standard of excellence both in the shows he produced and in the talent that he showcased. Simultaneously “America’s Oldest Teenager” and the most trusted name in music, Clark was responsible for the first TV appearances of many superstars including Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince. Taylor Swift, who also made her debut on a Dick Clark Production show, will be honored with this prestigious award with Clark’s wife, Kari, in the audience, along with a theatre full of stars who grew up on Clark’s programs. This promises to be one of the most significant moments in the rich history of the AMA’s.

The American Music Awards, the world’s biggest fan-voted award show, today announced the 2014 American Music Awards nominees. In advance of today’s announcement, recording artists Jason Derulo and Charli XCX rose at the crack of dawn to reveal 5 categories of nominees on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” (See the full list of nominees below). It was also announced today on “GMA” that Charli XCX will perform for the first time on the AMAs. The American Music Awards will broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. Iggy Azalea leads this year with six nominations. John Legend, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams follow with five nominations each, while Lorde earns four nominations. Rock in Rio USA Will Host Five Weddings Per Day During May 2015 Festival in Las Vegas

Rock in Rio, the legendary music festival, will host five weddings per day at the upcoming Rock in Rio USA in Las Vegas May 8 – 9 and 15 – 16, 2015.  The chosen lucky couples will be married at the Rock in Rio Chapel, part of the festival’s Rock Street experience, an unprecedented location on the famed Las Vegas Strip.

Couples can submit their love story at marryme@rockinrio.com to be considered for one of the limited free ceremonies, surrounded by music at Rock in Rio’s first-ever festival in the U.S. This is the first time the festival will have a real wedding chapel and no other destination could be more fitting than Las Vegas, the Wedding Capital of the World.

The theme of love has run through multiple editions of the international festival, with the first wedding taking place at Rock in Rio Brazil in 2011 at the request of one lucky couple.  The wedding attendee that caught the bouquet at this 2011 ceremony continued the magic at the 2013 festival, where she also got married at the City of Rock.  There was also a wedding at Rock in Rio Lisbon in 2014.  Now the tradition continues in a major way at Rock in Rio USA.

In anticipation for the May event, Rock in Rio took over Times Square in New York City on Friday, September 26 to announce the first acts that will perform at Rock in Rio USA: Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift and No Doubt will take the Main Stage and Deftones and John Legend will perform on the Sunset Stage.  The crowd was also treated to special surprise performances by past Rock in Rio performers Sepultura with Tambours du Bronx and John Mayer.  Rock in Rio continues to celebrate the upcoming U.S. festival with this week’s installation of a 27-foot-tall custom guitar that will greet visitors and locals flying to and from McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

Passes for the Rock in Rio USA event in May are currently available through a limited pre-sale with general admission weekend passes available for $298 and VIP daily passes available for $498. 27-Foot-Tall Custom Guitar On Display At McCarran International Airport

Rock in Rio, the legendary music festival, will hit the Las Vegas Strip next May and the city is already warming up to the event: A 27-foot-tall custom guitar has been installed at McCarran International Airport next to the Arrivals area and will greet tourists and locals as they arrive in Las Vegas. With a bit over 220 days left until the opening of the City of Rock, this is the first sign that the festival is going to rock the city on May 8-9 and 15-16, 2015.

In anticipation for the May event, Rock in Rio took over Times Square last Friday, when more than 75,000 people gathered on the streets of NYC to watch the surprise performances by of Sepultura with Tambours du Bronx and John Mayer while more than 50 electronic billboards were synchronized to show the festival’s brand. Earlier in the day, the organization announced the first acts that will perform in next year’s event: Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift and No Doubt will take the Main Stage and Deftones and John Legend will perform on the Sunset Stage. The announcement was wide-spread across social media resulting in #RockinRioUSA  trending in Brazil and in the US on Friday night with over 431 million impressions.

Rock in Rio, the legendary music festival, has announced Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift, No Doubt (who attended the announcement), Deftones and John Legend as part of the initial lineup for its first stateside edition taking place May 8-9 and May 15-16 in Las Vegas. The announcement was unveiled as Rio de Janeiro and Las Vegas met in Times Square, the crossroads of the world, with an exciting surprise performance from past Rock in Rio artists John Mayer and Sepultura with Les Tambours Du Bronx to celebrate the festival’s 30th anniversary and first US edition in 2015. Sepultura and Les Tambour Du Bronx performed in honor of their past Rock in Rio collaboration and guitar hero John Mayer took the stage to bring hits like “No Such Thing” and “Gravity” to the gathered crowd. During the press conference, the organization also launched its Social Project “30 years, Many Dreams”.

Roberta Medina, Executive Vice President of Rock in Rio (and daughter of Founder Roberto Medina), expanded on Rock in Rio’s tremendous background by revealing some of outstanding facts around the global festival’s 30-year history.  With more than 7.4 million people in 14 editions, more than 1270 artists have performed in 85 days of the event. Over the past editions, more than 148,000 jobs have been created and more than 1 billion people have watched the concerts worldwide.  The statistics provided an in-depth look at creating a global giant as it celebrates its 30th anniversary with a new extension in the US.

“From the first Rock in Rio festival in Brazil in 1985 to next year’s anniversary and Las Vegas launch, it’s been an amazing journey with Rock in Rio fans and the artists that have taken part in the festival,” says Roberta Medina.  “We’re thrilled to see the construction of our first U.S. City of Rock and to announce the first artists who will perform in Las Vegas in May 2015.”

Rock in Rio USA & Brazil: Line-up Confirmations 
During the press conference, the organization announced the first artists that will take part of next year’s event in Las Vegas: Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift and No Doubt, who will all perform on the festival’s Main Stage. Metallica will return to the Rock in Rio stage after six previous performances at the international event.  Appearing on the same day as Metallica, multi-platinum rock group Linkin Park are also returning after previous Rock in Rio performances.

The LA band No Doubt has also been confirmed and made an appearance at the Times Square press conference. The band stated that they are “extremely happy to be taking the stage of Rock in Rio’s first US festival and to be part of such an amazing musical history as the festival celebrates its 30th anniversary.”

In addition, the organization also announced the first names of the line-up for the Sunset Stage: The Deftones and John Legend. The Sunset Stage has quickly become a phenomenon featuring a line-up filled with special guests and unexpected musical collaborations.

As 2015 will also host the return of Rock in Rio to Brazil, the organization announced some of the performers scheduled for September. Katy Perry will take the Main Stage in Rio for the second time, bringing her spectacular stage show to the Brazilian crowd. John Legend will also take the stage in Brazil and make his debut at the festival headlining at the Sunset Stage.

The City of Rock
Rock in Rio has joined forces with entertainment giants MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM), Cirque du Soleil and Ron Burkle (The Yucaipa Companies) for the festival’s U.S. debut in Las Vegas in May 2015. An alliance founded on a shared commitment to creating innovative entertainment, Rock in Rio, MGM Resorts and Cirque du Soleil will redefine the modern music festival for U.S. audiences with a monumental combination of the biggest names in music and a fully immersive entertainment experience, all housed in a spectacular, custom-made “City of Rock.”

The permanent open-air concert venue will be located on The Strip near the corner of Sahara Avenue, spread out over 37 acres and have the capacity for 85,000 people per day. It includes six stages, three themed Rock Streets encompassing the culture and music of the U.S., UK and Brazil and a zip line that stretches  64 feet high and 600 feet long in front of Main Stage. The venue also includes a VIP area that can accommodate up to 4000 people; an air-conditioned area with a unique view of the City of Rock and an all-inclusive buffet.

Further gearing up excitement for the US festival and its pre-sale, Rock in Rio has launched a mass-media campaign that will run in the U.S. with an overall investment of 25 million dollars. For the launch of the pre-sale ticket vouchers, the U.S. audience will see an action-packed commercial spot that will run for a 2 weeks period on television and online featuring Donald Sutherland. Featuring Hollywood blockbuster production values, Sutherland has a briefcase stolen and takes all necessary measures to retrieve it. After all, the suitcase contains Rock in Rio tickets!

“30 Years, Many Dreams”
The Times Square Takeover event also kicked off Rock in Rio’s “30 Years, Many Dreams,” this year’s theme for the event’s Social Project that will be granting wishes submitted by Rock in Rio fans. Since 2001, the festival has added a social component to the event and has raised and invested more than $23 million for environmental and social causes.

Rock in Rio was itself born from a dream that could have never been fulfilled had it not been for those people who believed in it.  As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations the organization has decided to pay that gratitude forward by helping to make dreams come true for young people who fight for their causes.  Contenders will upload a short text about their dream at rockinrio.com/usa/dreams, and the most compelling and passionate stories will be chosen.

To illustrate the project, a video campaign will be launched, presenting the first dream that has been fulfilled – 25 year old Brazilian clown Michel de Souza. Michel was born and raised in a small town near São Paulo and worked as a clown in the local circus. He dreamed of learning with the best professionals and taking the stage in a huge circus. His story moved Roberto Medina, and Souza is having the chance to train at Circus du Soleil and learn from the leading circus professionals in the world.

More than 44 million viewers saw some or all of the groundbreaking December 5 event and Dec 14 re-airing. The initial six nominees for the 2014 Milestone Award presented by Chevrolet included Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Luke Bryan, OneRepublic, Ellie Goulding and Carrie Underwood. The six nominees were then pared down to three finalists mid-April: Carrie Underwood, Ellie Goulding and OneRepublic. And in end, after the votes were cast, Carrie Underwood came out on top.

“Wow! I truly have the best fans in the world,” said Underwood as she accepted her award in a heartfelt speech. “I couldn’t do one one-zillionth of what I do without them.”

Starting on April 1, fans voted for their favorite nominees on Billboard.com/milestone. Voting continued all the way through 10pm ET / 9pm CT on May 18 during the live Billboard Music Awards, and culminated with the announcement of the award winner toward the end of the show presented by superstar artist, Kelly Rowland.

The 2014 Billboard Music Awards were broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18 at 8pm ET on ABC.
