Boulder Blues
Gary Hoey
Venue: The Railhead
Genre: Blues
Date: Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 at 6 p.m.
Ticket Prices: $5 cover at the door
Artist Info: Neon Highway Blues, Gary’s latest release, carries its 11 tracks with the confidence and assuredness of a veteran, and the freshness of someone who’s still in the process of discovery and refinement — with the help of famous friends such as Eric Gales, Lance Lopez, Josh Smith and Hoey’s 17-year-old son Ian Hoey. The release of Neon Highway Blues will, of course, take Gary Hoey back on the highways and byways for plenty of touring and playing, well, the blues — and more. He can’t yet predict where the next road will take him, but Hoey is confident it will be an adventure.

With a collection of 21 albums, it’s no wonder Gary Hoey is listed as one of the top 100 guitarists of all time.  The world renowned rock guitarist’s first break came in 1987 when Ozzy Osbourne liked Hoey’s tape enough to fly him to LA for an audition and encouraged him to move to the west coast. In 1990, Hoey was signed to Reprise Records with a short-lived band called Heavy Bones, but followed up in 1993 with a solo album and Gary’s cover of “Hocus Pocus” rocketed into the Billboard’s Top 5 Rock Tracks.  He went on to score the successful Endless Summer II soundtrack for New Line Cinema and in 1995 started a trilogy of “Ho!Ho! Hoey,” a collection of instrumental Christmas classics that continues each year in his Rockin’ Holiday shows.

Whether he’s playing scorching originals or classic rock covers, his solos are thrilling and reminiscent of Clapton or Stevie Ray in their fiery youth. One thing that remains consistent is Hoey’s impassioned command of the guitar. He can attack his instrument with feral intensity and then play something very soft and achingly beautiful. This ability to mix feeling, phrasing, technique and tone is the true mark of a master guitarist.

2018 Las Vegas Big League Weekend March 17th And 18th – Chicago Cubs Versus Cleveland Indians – ’16 World Series Rematch

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, announced today the schedule for the 2018 Big League Weekend at Cashman Field.

The Chicago Cubs will make their 14th straight appearance in Las Vegas for a two-game series against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday-Sunday, March 17-18.

Game times for the Spring Training series are 4:05 p.m. (PT) on Saturday, March 17 and 1:05 p.m. (PT) on Sunday, March 18. Game times are subject to change due to television.  Big League Weekend ticket packages are available NOW by calling the 51s office at (702) 943-7200.

The Cubs have recorded a total of 20 sellouts over the past 13 seasons (2005-17) for their annual Big League Weekend visits to Cashman Field.

The Cleveland Indians will make their second all-time appearance in Las Vegas for Big League Weekend. Cleveland defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 13-7, on March 29, 1998 before a sellout crowd of 12,974 at Cashman Field.

Big League Weekend will feature a rematch of the 2016 World Series. The Cubs captured the World Series championship for the first time in 108 years (1908) in a thrilling seven-game series against the Indians.

The Cubs, trailing 3-games-to-1, won the final three games of the series to capture the ’16 fall classic, the first team to come back from a 3-games-to-1 deficit since Kansas City in 1985 (vs. St. Louis).  Chicago also became just the fourth team in World Series history (trailing 3-games-to-1) to win the final two games on the road, the first since the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates (vs. Baltimore).

In 2017, the Cubs total attendance for the Big League Weekend two-day event was 22,740. The Cubs defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 11-7, on March 25 before a sellout crowd of 11,455. The Cubs then defeated the Reds, 22-4, on Saturday, March 26 before another sellout crowd of 11,285.

“We are excited to welcome Major League Baseball back to Las Vegas for the 28th year of Big League Weekend in March 2018,” Rossi Ralenkotter, President/CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, said.  “The Cubs and Indians will provide a great matchup for fans and Las Vegas will provide a great experience for visitors coming to see the games.”

The Cubs, under manager Joe Maddon, compiled a record of 92-70 (.568) and finished in first place in the National League Central Division.

Chicago defeated Washington, 3-games-to-2, in the N.L.D.S. and advanced to its third straight N.L.C.S.  The Los Angeles Dodgers then defeated the Cubs, 4-games-to-1, to advance to the World Series.

“We are excited to announce that the Cubs will return to Las Vegas for the 14th straight season,” 51s President/COO Don Logan said. “We also welcome the Cleveland Indians back to Las Vegas for their second all-time visit to Big League Weekend.

“This two-game series will feature a rematch of the 2016 World Series, one of the most memorable fall classics in history. The games will provide a great atmosphere in the ballpark. The fans, both locally and the tourists that visit during this event, will have a memorable time. The Cubs continue to have such a tremendous nationwide fan-base and Las Vegas has become a ‘second’ Spring Training home for them.

“Big League Weekend also provides great exposure for Las Vegas with the games being broadcast into Chicago, the #3 media market in the country and Cleveland (#17 media market).”

The Cubs will be returning to Cashman Field for the 14th straight season and 17th all-time appearance in Las Vegas for Big League Weekend (1993, 1994, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
