The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Announces Eclectic Flaunt Magazine Artists for P3Studio Spring Residencies

cosmopolitan

THE COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS ANNOUNCES  ECLECTIC FLAUNT MAGAZINE ARTISTS FOR P3STUDIO SPRING RESIDENCIES

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas announces a unique line-up of renowned artists scheduled for the P3Studio artist-in-residence program. After recent successful collaboration on Do Not Disturb with Flaunt Magazine, The Date Farmers, Bert Rodriguez, Alan Aldridge and David LaChapelle are set to showcase their unique individual styles in the ever-changing P3Studio.

For those looking to take a piece of the artwork home, an exclusive set of door hangers that includes work by each artist is available for $30 starting Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Monogram and Vitals, located on The Cosmopolitan’s second and first floors respectively.

Theo-Mass Lexileictous was the first in this collaboration to showcase his work in-studio from Feb. 21-Feb 25. Below are the remaining artist-in-residence participants that will be in P3Studio through March 24.

Friday, March 1 – Sunday, March 3
The Date Farmers
6 – 11 p.m.

Dynamic Mexican-American duo Carlos Ramirez and Armando Lerma’s experimental work with spray paint, bricolage, prison art, tattoos, pastel, oils and wood illuminate an element of folklore, swinging the door between worlds wide open. Their environment-based pieces often include desert creatures and indigenous elements with a nod to their journeys to Oaxaca. Credit for their majestic artwork stems from the fateful date farm which Ramirez dedicated hard sweat and labor to and Lerma’s father owned.

Friday, March 8 – Sunday, March 10
Bert Rodriguez
6 – 11 p.m.

Miami-bred artist Bert Rodriguez shows his unidentifiable style of art through an array of methods which explore the relationships between art and artistic value. Rodriguez works with a range of media, in different styles and genres. He uses various methods to translate his ideas, which explore the relationship existing between audience and art. Rodriguez uses wit and irony in creating work that deals with the human experience.

Friday, March 15 – Sunday, March 17
Alan Aldridge
6 – 11 p.m.

Aldridge was born in London but currently resides in Los Angeles.  He first worked as an illustrator at “The Sunday Times Magazine,” and later became the art director of Penguin Books. As art director he specifically focused on science fiction book covers and introduced his style which resonated with the mood of the time, the early 1960s. His creative designs and intoxicating images captured the dreams of a generation – in The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics, on album covers for Elton John, The Who, and Cream and on the infamous Chelsea Girls poster for Andy Warhol. During the 1960s and 1970s he was responsible for many album covers, and helped create the graphic style of that era. His work was characterized by a flowing, cartoony style and soft airbrushing – very much in tune with the psychedelic styles of the times.

Friday, March 22 – Sunday, March 24
David LaChapelle
6 – 11 p.m.

Connecticut-born David LaChapelle began his photography career in the 1980s when he started showing his artwork in New York City galleries. His work caught the eye of Andy Warhol, who gave him his first job as a photographer at Interview magazine. He went on to befriend celebrities, which led to his experimentation directing music videos, theatrical events and documentary films, reaching out to individuals’ unconsciousness with profound social messages. A former Tel Aviv Museum’s “Artist of the Year” and Sundance Film Festival award winner, LaChapelle’s work has been featured in New York’s famed Lever House, Interview Magazine, Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ, Rolling Stone and across the globe in Shanghai. LaChapelle is known for combining a hyper-realistic aesthetic with social messages.

P3Studio is an artist-in-residence program that invites international and local artists to create projects that are interactive, participatory and that give guests the opportunity to connect with art at an authentic and personal level. The viewer can watch an artist at work, enter the studio and engage with them while experiencing the immersive installations.

Eating Las Vegas: The 50 Essential Restaurants 2013 Features 11 New Entries – Plus Three New In The Top 10

EATING LAS VEGAS: THE 50 ESSENTIAL RESTAURANTS 2013

FEATURES 11 NEW ENTRIES “ PLUS THREE NEW IN THE TOP 10

In recent years Las Vegas has experienced a meteoric rise to become, arguably, the best restaurant city in the world. The names attached to the eateries on the famed Las Vegas Strip represent a veritable Whos Who of the culinary universe, now home to James Beard Foundation award-winning names pulled from the industry’s top food magazines, blogs and television shows. The 2013 edition of Eating Las Vegas: The 50 Essential Restaurants (Huntington Press, December, 2012) accomplishes what no other restaurant guide has, compiling the opinions of the citys three most respected critics (John Curtas, Max Jacobson and Al Mancini) to create a reference book that lists their agreed-upon Essential 50 restaurants in Sin City.

But its much more than just a list of restaurants, as each entry receives a thoughtful and candid description from all three authors. The guide also includes a 44-page specialty guide dedicated to Additional Recommendations from beer to buffets and from Sunday brunch to sushi “ plus everything else in between. The contentious (and ever-popular) Vetoes section pits author-against-author, a literary version of a free-for-all food fight.

When we green-lit this project three years ago, I wasn’t sure its realization was even a possibility, as we were dealing with three highly knowledgeable but incredibly strong-willed personalities, said publisher Anthony Curtis. But John (Curtas), Max (Jacobson) and Al (Mancini) have continued to deliver on their promise to seek out, and agree upon, Las Vegas 50 Essential Restaurants.

The 2013 edition of Eating Las Vegas with its foreword written by 14-times James Beard Foundation award-winning food journalist,  Alan Richman, adds three newcomers to the vaunted Top Ten list “ including two off-strip restaurants “ a first for the book “ in March Bacchus French Bistro and Raku Japanese Charcoal Grill. The other newcomer is Piero Selvaggios Valentino at The Venetian. Rounding out the Top Ten, and repeating from 2012, are Estiatorio Milos at The Cosmopolitan, Jol Robuchon and L’Atelier de Jol Robuchon at MGM Grand, Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace, CUT at Palazzo and Le Cirque and Picasso at Bellagio.

In addition to the Top 10, 11 new restaurants made the Essential 50,including Bread & Butter, Comme a at The Cosmopolitan, Due Forni, Fleur at Mandalay Bay, Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris, Kabuto, Le Thai, Mint Indian Bistro, miX at Mandalay Bay,
Public House at The Venetian and Sirio at Aria. Of course, when restaurants are added, casualties are inevitable. Eleven previously listed restaurants didnt make the cut this year. Some may be easier to swallow than others, but the authors refuse to place celebrity above credibility, as one notable inclusion in the Vetoes section amply demonstrates.

About Eating Las Vegas: The Essential 50 Restaurants

The 2013 edition of Eating Las Vegas: The 50 Essential Restaurants features all the elements — fully updated — that have made the ELV brand such a success, including the Top Ten and 40 best-of-the-rest picks from the city’s top-three (and ever-feisty) food critics, to make up the list of the “50 Essential” restaurants in Las Vegas. With each year this unique guide keeps getting bigger and better.  While still in handy pocket-sized format, its expanded the popular Vetoes section, and for the first time added Best Buffets to the Additional Recommendations.  The authors have also embellished many of the other “Best of” lists, to reflect the city’s ever-increasing array of enticing eateries, from bakeries to sushi restaurants. There are some big changes at the top, too, including three all-new entries in the Top Ten, so this restaurant roadmap truly never gets stale. From the Michelin-starred gastronomic temples to ethnic hole-in-the-walls you’ve never heard of, Eating Las Vegas now features close to 200 restaurants and bars, with tempting options for every taste and wallet, plus mouth-watering full-color photographs throughout.  It’s a must-have pocket companion for anyone planning to eat a meal in Las Vegas — whether you’re in the market for a quick snack or a 10-course chef’s tasting menu — and makes a great stocking-filler for the gambling foodie in your life.  This handy full-color pocket guide is available in paperback ($12.95) and e-book formats ($7.77) from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as directly from the publisher at ShopLVA.comIn 2013 authors John Curtas and Al Mancini will co-host a show on Travel Channel that will document them eating, and arguing, their way through the top food cities in America.

The Cosmopolitan has made an undeniably positive impression on the global travel community, touted by Gogobot users for its “terrace suites with wraparound views,” “sexy interior” and The Chandelier, a three-story bar encased in 2 million Swarovski crystals where “you don’t have to be a millionaire to feel like one.”  Nearing its second birthday on Dec. 15, the resort is younger than any other on the Strip and has cultivated a loyal, widespread audience in a short amount of time.  With its unmatched entertainment venues and live acts, culturally progressive art programs, boutique retail partners, award winning restaurant collection, 100,000 square feet of gaming space, and dedication to creating an always-evolving experience for guests, The Cosmopolitan is at the forefront of a newer, edgier Las Vegas that continues to emerge.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Announces May Entertainment Performances

Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas announces
May ENTERTAINMENT performances

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas continues its line-up of touring artists at its casino floor hot-spots Book & Stage, Bond, and The Chandelier with artist residencies through May. All performances are open to the public.

Book & Stage
A polished, masculine and comfortable setting, Book & Stage is a daytime live sports viewing lounge and by evening becomes a music performance-centric venue with popular acts.

The following acts will be performing at Book & Stage:

Bushwalla
Self-proclaimed as the Original Gangster from Cleveland, Bushwalla represents the eclectic talents of Billy “Bushwalla” Galewood. A native of Cleveland, he started performing musical theater at the age of 9. For the next 10 years, he crafted his performing skills as a professional clown while on stage with the Cleveland Opera, Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, and the Cleveland Ballet. In 1995, Galewood set out to New York City to study theater at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy. While in New York, he supported himself as a street performer incorporating such feats as juggling, magic, chair-balancing, and fire-breathing. Now after spending time in both Los Angeles and San Diego, Bushwalla is more than a one-man boy band. His sound is a unique blend of funk, rock, freestyle, acoustic hip-hop with a soul deeply rooted in authenticity and optimism. His writing talents came into being after notably co-writing Jason Mraz’s debut platinum album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come and sophomore release Mr. A-Z.
Tuesday, May 1 – Wednesday, May 2 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

J*DaVeY
When hip-hop culture meets electronic sonic inventions and a funky soul spirit you get J*DaVeY. A multi-genre duo out of Los Angeles, CA, composed of singer/songwriter Jack Davey and producer/songwriter Brook D’Leau, J*DaVeY has gradually subdued the attention of an international cult following over the past ten years. With a style comparable to the chemistry between Missy Elliot and Timbaland, they continue to give audiences drug-induced classics reminiscent to that of the legendary Nirvana.
Thursday, May 3 – Saturday, May 5 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

Leftover Cuties
To call Leftover Cuties retro or throwback would be too easy, and frankly dismissive. Sure, the music fits beside Billie Holiday, but it’s also current in its sex appeal, its sophistication and its confidence. The Cuties’ music – plied with upright bass, accordion, the brushed drums, and yes, ukulele – is not slavishly old timey, but honors its forebears in the right way with melody, sharp playing and stylized, confident, character-laden singing.
Tuesday, May 8 – Thursday, May 10 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

The Wombats
Within the butterfly-breaking cogs of the music industry, big numbers can bring big problems. And The Wombats’ numbers got big, fast. A platinum album with their 2007 debut Guide To Love, Loss And Desperation. Over 300,000 combined sales of their indie dance floor smashes, a two year tour during which Liverpool’s biggest exports in a decade played to well over a million people, culminating in a massive homecoming Liverpool Arena show for 10,000 ecstatic local fans of their dark yet exuberant and infectious alt. pop style.
Friday, May 11 – Saturday, May 12 from 10:30PM – 12:00AM

Palter Ego
Palter Ego is the brain child of vocalist Jesse Palter and keyboardist Sam Barsh, who combine forces to create their own blend of upbeat pop, jazz and soul. Both established musicians, producers and dynamic performers in their own right, (Palter is a five-time Detroit Music Award Winner for her jazz work; Barsh has toured and written with the likes of Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Avishai Cohen and The Brand New Heavies), Palter Ego is creating a niche for themselves by blending catchy hooks, dynamic beats, and captivating lyrics.
Tuesday, May 15 – Thursday, May 17 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM
Friday, May 18 – Saturday, May 19 from 10:30PM – 12:00AM

A B & The Sea
Longtime friends Koley O’Brien and Joe Spargur founded A B & The Sea January 1, 2008–not only marking the start of a new year, but a new journey. They packed up their van, waved goodbye to Wisconsin and started making their way to California. After going through a line-up change, A B & The Sea was made complete again with the addition of drummer Troy Lawton, bass player Ben Laatsch and David Hunt on keys.
Tuesday, May 22 – Thursday, May 24 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

Eric Hutchinson
Washington, DC-raised singer, pianist and guitarist Eric Hutchinson has traveled the world over the course of several years and has journeyed toward the making of his latest album, Moving Up Living Down, which is the delightfully witty and supremely wise follow-up to his hit debut, Sounds Like This. Through this journey, he developed a very simple rule regarding new songs. “I traveled so long and got to see so many people and places,” he says. “And sharing music with the fans every night got me thinking: The best concerts are when people sing along with me. So for the next one, what kind of songs do I want people singing with me? What kind of songs do I want people dancing to?” Get ready to sing and dance.
Friday, May 25 – Sunday, May 27 from 10:30PM – 12:00AM

David Brouwer & The Foundation
There are lots of people born to sing. David Brouwer was born to wail…and croon, and make you wish for those moments in music you remember from long ago. Artists can be broken in, but this artist will break the mold, and set a standard. When you meet him, you realize the east coast boyish humor is just the exterior, when you hear him, you see a crooner from the past, built for today. A classic American musician. The kind whose voice and interpretation will make you wonder why you haven’t heard of him before. But thousands have heard him, in clubs and theaters around the globe. He’s the best kept international voice of this decade. David Brouwer – once you’ve listened to him, you won’t forget him.
Tuesday, May 29 – Wednesday, May 30 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

Allen Stone
From backwoods barbecues and community gatherings, Allen Stone emerges to share personal melodies, telling his tales of life after just 23 years. Getting his start singing at his father’s church in small-town America, it wasn’t until later when introduced to the greats of soul music (Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin) and then to the confessional lyrical fashion of the 60’s – 70’s singer/ songwriters, did music begin to ignite intense passion, eventually carrying this boy to a musical home. Stone’s music is notable for his finely crafted evocative songs and fresh, smooth, soul-filled voice-one that certainly belies his age.
Thursday, May 31 and Saturday, June 2 from 10:30PM – 12:00AM
Friday, June 1 from 9:30PM – 10:15PM and 11:15PM – 12:00AM

Bond
Bond, a rhythmic and vibrant hot-spot, features a mash-up of dynamic LED art, live performances and upbeat house music in an energetic ultra lounge setting.

The following acts will be performing at Bond:

Pookie
“Pookie” David Mahoney was born in Hoboken, NJ. The most common question that Mahoney seems to get asked is, why Pookie? This was a nickname given to him by his mother that has been carried along with him throughout his life. In time, family members and friends started to call him “Pookie,” and for some friends, that’s all they know him as. Music has always played a big part in Pookie’s life, starting out young with keyboard, piano, guitar and leading up to turntables, synthesizers and computer production.
Tuesday, May 1; Tuesday, May 15 from 10:00PM – 2:00AM

Lone MTN
The classically trained electronic music producer Lone Mountain is a one man musical army who tore a hole through the Midwest’s underground club gatherings in Chicago while still a student at the University of Notre Dame. After finishing his degree in the Midwest, he studied under the French electronic mastermind Danger (Universal / Ekleroshock Records) to further harness his musical talents onto the dance floors. Inspired by artists who convey stories and emotions through music, such as Chopin, Pink Floyd, Wolfgang Gartner, Vitalic, and Above & Beyond, Lone Mountain’s work projects a story that’s evolving each moment, with no end in sight and one that seems to capture all who will listen.
Thursday, May 3; Thursday, May 17; Thursday, May 31 from 10:00PM – 3:00AM

DJ Evil One

She has been on the turntables for the past three years and loves it more and more every time she spins. She has a passion for music, life and being in front of a crowd doing what she loves.

He’s played at the world’s most renowned clubs in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, and will have you and your crowd saying: “I partied with Teen Wolf and survived.”

DJ Miss Joy
A nationally known DJ, Miss Joy debuted in 2002 in MTV’s Real World Las Vegas. She soon gained national exposure when she performed in a Pepsi commercial with world renowned hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas. There was no doubt about her talents as a DJ and her ability to hold her own in the competitive club scene of Las Vegas after she easily took first place in an all-female DJ competition and first place in the largest DJ competition that Sin City has yet to offer.
Thursday, May 10; Thursday, May 24 – Sunday, May 27 from 10:00PM – 3:00AM (until 12:00AM Saturday and Sunday)

19Sixty

DJ Stephi K
DJ Stephi K was born in Port Hueneme, CA and grew up in Southern California where she developed a passion and true love for pop, hip-hop and rap music. Artists like Madonna and 2Pac inspired her to write and record her own style of music. She has worked with several producers as well as being featured on other hip-hop artists’ songs. She began performing live at venues throughout Southern California opening for well-known hip-hop acts and starred in her own music video called “Play It Back.” After years of writing, recording, and performing she has embarked on a journey to mix her style of music with hip-hop, house, old school, rap, and other forms of music to create her own DJ style.

He is constantly refining his style and producing new music.
Friday, May 18 – Saturday, May 19 from 10:00PM – 3:00AM

DJ Jeff Retro
Mixing two records can be accomplished by almost anyone, but to put the dance floor into a hypnotic, emotional trance of sound and movement is a completely separate art form all its own. Over the past few years, Jeff Retro has been honing this skill and showing the dance floors of Las Vegas exactly what it means to feel the music.
Sunday, May 20; Tuesday, May 29 from 10:00PM – 2:00AM

DJ Mia Moretti & Caitlin Moe

Their act, honed from Moretti’s roots DJing in LA and then New York clubs and Moe’s classical violin training, has taken them from the runways of New York Fashion Week to opening for Janet Jackson at the Louvre. Together, Moretti and Moe were named Paper Magazine’s DJ of the Year and have played at Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding, Chopard’s 150th Anniversary Party and Perez Hilton’s “One Night in Austin.” The two have recently completed and released their debut track “So Beautiful,” (production by Moretti; vocals by Moe).

The following acts will be performing at The Chandelier:

Jennifer Keith Quintet
Vocalist Jennifer Keith is an American classic and a descendent of a line of entertainers. Many have described her as “the Doris Day of today” and “a pinup doll with a voice reminiscent of Peggy Lee meets Patsy Cline.”  Keith began her professional career appearing weekly at the beautiful Madison supper club in Long Beach, CA, where she learned the classic vocal stylings of the jazz and pop singers of the 40’s and 50’s. She was heavily influenced by leading vocalists of the greatest era of music including Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Keely Smith, Julie London and June Christy. In 2010 The Jennifer Keith Quintet began an engagement every Friday and Saturday night in the Observation Bar aboard the prestigious Queen Mary in Long Beach. This in turn helped “polish” her group and has given her the reputation as the “premiere classic American quintet in Los Angeles.”
Friday, May 4 – Sunday, May 6 from 9:00PM – 10:00PM and 11:00PM – 12:00AM

Diego Garcia
Diego Garcia was born in Detroit to Argentine parents and on his new solo album, Laura, he traces his roots. Garcia was inspired by the loss of love and the classic troubadour movement using lush string arrangements, delicate Spanish guitars, and distinctly Latin flavor. Billboard Magazine praised Garcia for his “melodic pop sensibility” and “stellar solo debut.” While NPR said, “Garcia’s most brilliant songs are his most anguished ones… at once immense and completely intimate.” The new album shot up the charts, breaking into the iTunes Alternative Top 15 albums, alongside new releases from artists like The Strokes and Death Cab For Cutie

Fatboy Slim Las Vegas Take Over Labor Day Weekend – September 4 at the Marquee Dayclub

MARQUEE DAYCLUB AT THE COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS

FATBOY SLIM
LAS VEGAS TAKE OVER

LABOR DAY WEEKEND –
SEPTEMBER 4

It really ain’t over til the Fatboy sings when it comes to Las Vegas. Legendary DJ/producer Fatboy Slim, a.k.a. Norman Cook, launched into the second date of his exclusive residency over July 4th weekend at Marquee Dayclub at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Mother Nature kept bizarre weather at bay in favor of amazing beats for a pool party of unparalleled proportions.

Adorned in a yellow shirt complete with trademark Fatboy Slim smiley face and crossbones, he festively matched the three-story-high FBS balloon in one of Marquee’s two pools, plus the custom FBS logo décor throughout the Dayclub. Hyping the crowd via megaphone and rocking out barefoot in a custom plexiglass DJ booth built just for him over Marquee’s main pool, he kicked the pool party into high gear with samples of his “Praise You” melding into a funky disco-esque remix and drops of “Fatboy Slim is f—king in heaven.”

Fatboy Slim blew kisses to the ladies, played “Put Your Hands Up for Brazil” and some sexy salsa for a group in Brazilian shirts, plus worked in a bevy of crowd pleasers including “The Big Bad Wolf”, “Rock the Casbah”, “Jump Around”, Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved”, and concluded the set with a mash-up of “Rockafeller Skank” and the Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction”. Fatboy Slim’s whirlwind of tracks plus infectious energy spilled over to the Fourth of July weekend warriors splashing in the sun. And with his sounds working them into a frenzy, FBS’s ability to play to the crowd brought the vibe at Marquee Dayclub to new heights.

Be sure to catch Fatboy Slim’s final date of his summer residency with Chuckie on Labor Day Weekend – September 4 at Marquee Dayclub.

DIRTY SOUTH + AVICII @ Dayclub
Remixed and specially edited versions of his classics have just been released on the compilation ‘Strictly Dirty South,’ but this Serbian-Australian DJ is far from slowing down. Known for his Grammy-nominated remix of Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” with Axwell last year, Dirty South returns to Marquee every month for his epic Starphazing residency, which continues to showcase his signature dark house sound among stunning visuals and costumed dancers — see it for yourself in “Dirty South at Marquee Las Vegas” on YouTube.

Dirty South is joined by Avicii, who has established himself as one of the leaders of electronic dance music, after having won the International Dance Music Award for Best Breakthrough Solo Artist and being named Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2010 by Tiësto. Avicii lives up to his hype, smashing remix after remix and establishing himself as a cornerstone of house music with his original sound, which can be previewed on his Soundcloud. “It’s just amazing to see how much EDM is growing in the States in general, especially in Vegas” he says of his frequent dates at Marquee. Watch the full interview “Avicii at Marquee Nightclub Las Vegas” on YouTube.

Saturday, July 2
ERICK MORILLO with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano @ Nightclub
A regular in the Top 5 on Beatport, Erick Morillo’s newly released single “Stronger” featuring Eddie Thoneick and Shawnee Taylor from his 2010 album, ‘Live Your Life,’ promises to soundtrack the summer. After launching his own label Subliminal in 1997, Morillo now has a regular Sessions Podcast, while continuing to fill dance floors worldwide. Known especially for his Subliminal Sessions residency in Ibiza every summer, Morillo faithfully returns to Vegas for Subliminal Sessions at Marquee — a futuristic affair featuring spectacular custom videos and glow-in-the-dark costumed dancers. (Take a peek with “Marquee Las Vegas: Erick Morillo” on YouTube.)
