Drybar, the country’s premier blowout bar, continues to expand its presence in Las Vegas, opening three locations in the city in just two years.  The newest addition, opening April 20, 2018, is located on the first floor of Fashion Show, just steps from Las Vegas Boulevard between the Plaza entrance and Neiman Marcus.  The third Las Vegas location joins existing shops at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which opened December 2017, and The Miracle Mile Shops, which debuted July 2016.

Drybar Fashion Show will feature ten styling chairs in a shop spanning 1,858 square-feet. In addition to signature blowouts, the Fashion Show shop will also offer Dry Styling, where those short on time can have curls, braids and more styled.

Lynyrd Skynyrd continued to grow its fan base with the release of its sophomore album, Second Helping, which featured one of the band’s most popular songs to date, “Sweet Home Alabama.” In 1977, three of the band’s members including lead vocalist and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant died in an airplane crash. The tragic accident ultimately led to the band’s breakup and Lynyrd Skynyrd didn’t reunite until a decade later. The reunion tour included the surviving band members as well as Johnny Van Zant, the younger brother of Van Zant and the new lead singer for the group. Despite a number of lineup changes, the band continued to record and tour over the next three decades.

Peter Frampton
Peter Frampton

Peter Frampton

Considered one of the biggest rock stars of the ‘70s, Peter Frampton got his start in music when he began playing the guitar at the age of eight. As a teenager, Frampton played in a couple of successful bands and decided to embark on a solo career in 1971. With the help of music stars including Ringo Starr and Billy Preston, Frampton released his debut studio album, Wing of Change, a year later. Despite help from some of the greats, the album did not sell well and his follow-up album experienced the same fate. Over the next couple years, he began touring and building a loyal fan base through his lively performances. In 1975, Frampton recorded a live album entitled Frampton Comes Alive!. The album was a huge commercial success, selling over 16 million copies and topping the charts for 10 weeks straight. It also produced his first three hit singles: “Baby, I Love Your Way,” “Do You Feel Like We Do” and “Show Me the Way.” Over the years, he continued to tour, record and release new music but nothing matched the success of his live album. In 2013, Frampton was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Celebrates Chinese New Year With Lucky Cat, Dotting of the Eyes, Distinctive culinary offerings and more

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas invites guests to celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Ram with Lucky Cat, an interactive art exhibition based on the fabled cultural icon of good fortune, Dragon Dance and ‘Dotting of the Eyes’ ceremony, festive décor and distinctive cocktails and menus from José Andrés’ China Poblano to commemorate the holiday.

Located in the pop-up space off the Las Vegas Strip, Lucky Cat features a nine-foot tall talisman of good fortune that invites passers-by in with a simple yet powerful smile and upright paw. Designed to reward the curiosity of those who dare to stop and explore, Lucky Cat dispenses a fortune card to all who place their hand on its paw. For a select few, this fortune will function as a golden ticket to a range of experiences at The Cosmopolitan. Visitors can interact with Lucky Cat from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Guests must be 21 years old or older.

To further the celebration, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will hold a traditional ‘Dotting of the Eyes’ ceremony at the East Side entrance off Las Vegas Boulevard on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. During the ceremony, nearly 30 performers will ‘awaken’ a dragon and lions by dotting their eyes with red paint.  Once awakened, the twisting and turning dragon will lead a parade of lions and dancers throughout the casino floor.  The moving celebration will make a stop in front of the High Limit Lounge for a ‘Collecting of the Cabbage’ ceremony.

Chefs José Andrés and Garrison Price honor the Year of the Ram at China Poblano with a festive menu featuring creative takes on Chinese classics and specialty cocktails from Feb. 19 through March 5. In saluting the Chinese influences of the China Poblano concept, the menu will showcase an array of inventive dishes, including Wok Roasted Manila Clams with Chinese sausage, pickled chili, and black bean sauce; Crispy Radish Cake with XO sauce, tiny radish and chili oil; Beef Xiaolongbao with bone marrow, black truffle, and scallion; Mapo Tofu with Oat Noodle with steamed oat noodle, Thai basil, and peanuts; Barbeque Spare Ribs slow braised with charred long beans; and Choy Sum with oyster sauce and black bean crumbs.

China Poblano will offer a selection of crafted cocktails to pair with the dynamic menu offerings. Highlights include the Wool Blanket served with bourbon, cinnamon syrup, fig jam and goat’s milk; Lu Yang (Green Sheep), prepared with bourbon, orange liqueur, green tea, ginger star anise syrup, lemon and green tea air; and Yang Yang with sparkling shochu, cucumber celery juice, lemon and ancho pequin cotton candy. China Poblano will offer a complimentary mini cocktail, Spring Festival, made with melon-infused pisco, aloe vera liqueur, honey syrup and lime, to diners throughout the celebration.

LEFTOVER CUTIES SET TO THRILL LAS VEGAS

Noir Pop Band To Release All-Covers EP This Spring

Leading up to their forthcoming EP, Los Angeles-based quintet Leftover Cuties will charm and captivate audiences at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas with a string of nightly sets at the hotel tonight through Saturday.  The band will play free shows on March 8th, 9th and 10th at The Chandelier Bar starting at 9pm.

Leftover Cuties are currently putting the finishing touches on their covers EP due out late Spring, which will feature special arrangements of favorites like “You Are My Sunshine,” Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” Regina Spektor’s “Fidelity” and more.  The release follows their critically acclaimed debut, Game Called Life EP, that boasts the breakout title track, and theme song to the Showtime hit series The Big C, and their album Places To Go, which was helmed by producer Tony Berg (Peter Gabriel, Jesca Hoop, Pete Yorn).

With a nod to Gatsby-era debauchery and smoke-filled jazz joints, Leftover Cuties will steal your heart, and your significant other. Shirli McAllen’s velvety vocals combine with Austin Nicholsen (ukulele), Stuart Johnson (drums), Mike Bolger (keys, horns, accordion) and Ryan Feves (bass) in a way that pays homage to the sophisticated, sultry sounds of yesteryear while embracing the tones of today.

Filter Magazine praises, “Leftover Cuties are a group that are making their mark on the current music scene,” influential LA radio station KROQ raves, “Lead vocalist Shirli McAllen exudes an intoxicating flare of confidence, playing masseuse on your ears and sucking you in with her sugary sweet vocals,” and Music Connection Magazine lauds, “Leftover Cuties are a talented group with a unique sound to call their own, one that separates them from the vast sea of bands on the scene.”
