Fremont Street Experience’s Rock of Vegas Summer Concert Series Continues
with Free Concert June 13

Go Back to the 1980s with Performances by – Martha Davis and The Motels, The Tubes & The Smithereens

Fremont Street Experience’s Rock of Vegas summer concert series continues as Martha Davis and The Motels, The Tubes and The Smithereens are set to perform a free concert on the 3rd Street Stage on Saturday, June 13 at 9 p.m. Every May-September, Fremont Street Experience transforms Downtown Las Vegas into the hottest place to be with the annual Rock of Vegas summer concert series; one of the most popular summertime events in Las Vegas featuring rockin’ nightly entertainment, free headliner concerts and Viva Vision shows.

Martha Davis and The Motels
Martha Davis was born and raised in Berkeley, California, she moved to Los Angeles in the early ‘70s, along with the first incarnation of The Motels. In 1982, the Motels released the album All Four One. The smash single “Only The Lonely” rocketed into the Top 10, immediately propelling the album to gold status. The group dominated the music scene and was voted Best Performance for “Only The Lonely” at the 1982 American Music Awards. In 1983, the Little Robbers album went gold due to the Top 10 single “Suddenly Last Summer,” as well as their Top 40 hit “Remember The Nights.” In 1985, the “Shock” album yielded the Top 20 hit, “Shame” and 1987 saw the release of Martha’s first solo effort, Policy. The current band line-up includes Brady Wills on bass, Nicholas Johns on keyboards, and former Gnarls Barkley touring band members Eric Gardner and Clint Walsh on drums and lead guitar, respectively. They have been together for 10 years, longer than the original Motels. Martha continues her passion for writing, currently co-writing several songs for the new album with her current band, as well as an exciting and diverse group of collaborators.

The Tubes
The Tubes originated in Phoenix, Arizona in the late ’60s, where Bill Spooner (guitar), Vince Welnick (keyboards) and Rick Anderson  (bass) formed ‘The Beans’ (alternately billing themselves as the Radar Men from Uranus). The aspiring trio eventually relocated to the post-psychedelic haze of San Francisco in 1972. The first real incarnation of ‘The Tubes’ was born when the original members recruited Michael Cotten (keyboards) and former roadie Fee Waybill (lead vocals). By 1981 the Tubes signed to Capitol Records and released the David Foster produced ‘Completion Backwards Principle. Both Talk to Ya Later and Don’t Want to Wait Anymore earned them significant airplay on American radio, while the album became the Tubes’ first Top 40 chart entry. Two years later, in 1983, due to a provocative video, the single ‘She’s a Beauty’ reached the Top Ten, and pushed the Tubes’ sixth studio album, ‘Outside/Inside’ into the U.S. Top 20. The Tubes have always managed to expose, enlighten and entertain audiences worldwide by combining art with trash, comedy with tragedy, and innovative rock theatre with consummate musicianship.

The Smithereens
Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken and original bassist Mike Mesaros grew up in Carteret, New Jersey, forging a friendship as teenagers through a mutual love of ’60s rock ‘n’ roll and other vintage sounds. After meeting the similarly inclined  Pat DiNizio, the four formed the Smithereens, and won some local renown with a pair of independently released EPs, 1980’s Girls About Town and 1983’s Beauty and Sadness. The Smithereens were already a seasoned live act by the time they achieved surprise commercial success in 1986 with their first full album Especially for You, with spawned the MTV hits “Blood and Roses” and “Behind the Wall of Sleep.” The band continued to reap considerable airplay, critical acclaim and fan loyalty with the subsequent longplayers Green Thoughts, Smithereens 11, Blow Up, A Date with The Smithereens and God Save The Smithereens, which yielded such enduring numbers as “Only a Memory,” “House We Used to Live In,” “Drown in My Own Tears” and “A Girl Like You.”

More Bonuses, More Often at Boyd Gaming’s Penny Lane

Enhanced Penny Slot Destination to Offer Unprecedented Bonus Opportunities for Players
Nationwide Rollout at 14 Boyd Properties to Begin November 3

Boyd Gaming today announced the nationwide launch of an all-new Penny Lane – a unique new gaming destination combining the hottest new penny slot titles with a wealth of bonus opportunities for players.

With the tagline, “More Bonuses, More Often,” an enhanced Penny Lane will debut on November 3 at Boyd Gaming’s four Las Vegas Locals properties – The Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast and Sam’s Town.  And, for the first time, Penny Lane will be expanding to downtown Las Vegas as well, premiering at the California, Fremont and Main Street Station.

To raise awareness of the new Penny Lane, Boyd Gaming is launching a nationwide marketing and advertising campaign featuring “Cool Abe,” a modern take on the face on the penny. Aimed at promoting Penny Lane in a humorous and novel way, the Cool Abe campaign will feature television, print and online elements.

“Since we first launched Penny Lane last year, our four Locals properties have become the place to play for anyone looking for the hottest new penny slot titles,” said Paul Chakmak, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Boyd Gaming.   “Now, we’re adding a new twist to our Penny Lane line-up – an incredible array of additional mini-bonus games, built right into players’ favorite slots.  We’re giving players just what they’ve told us they want: More Bonuses, More Often.”

The new bonus games will be in addition to the bonus rounds offered on many of the newest and most popular slot titles located within Penny Lane, giving players the chance to win slot play, B Connected credits, and other prizes.

On November 3, Penny Lane will also be launching at Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, La., and Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel in Vinton, La.  And over the coming weeks, pending regulatory approval, Penny Lane will be introduced at five additional Boyd Gaming properties: Blue Chip Hotel Casino Spa in Michigan City, Ind.; IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi, Miss.; Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino in East Peoria, Ill.; Sam’s Town Hotel Casino in Shreveport, La.; and Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Tunica, Miss.

“Our goal is simple: To become the destination of choice for penny slot players across the country,” Chakmak said.  “If you’re looking for a gaming experience like no other, Boyd Gaming’s Penny Lane is the place to be.”

For further information on Penny Lane, B Connected and Boyd Gaming, visit www.boydgaming.com, www.bconnectedonline.com, or visit any B Connected Club desk. B Connected membership is free and available to persons ages 21 and over.

Downtown Las Vegas hotspot elevates its musical offerings with nationwide tour booking

Known as Downtown Las Vegas’ hippest spot for EDM and nightlife, videolounge Insert Coin(s) ups its musical offerings with the presentation of the Night Owls Tour on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 10 pm, sponsored by Heineken Light. Featuring world-renowned DJs AC Slater, Flinch and Harvard Bass, the Night Owls Tour brings its bass-pumping DJ sets to the bustling neon lights of Downtown Las Vegas, as their only Vegas stop on the tour.

AC Slater has quickly become one of the most sought after remixers and producers. Raised on Hip-Hop and nourished by old school rave, AC has cultivated these influences to give birth to his own style of music production. One of the top blogged dance artists in the world, AC’s track can be frequently heard on radio stations worldwide and he’s constantly touring globally.

Flinch, aka Adam Glassco, is a veteran producer who has progressed effortlessly from his beginnings in drum and bass and then electro to current endeavors into jump-up and deeper, more melodic synth-based dubstep. The succession of sounds Flich adheres to reflects a new breed of artists distinguished most by his ability to marry careful grit and distortion with catchy songwriting. A true tastemaker, Flinch consistently delivers a wide selection of cuts riding between UK funky, club, techno, garage and dubstep genre lines.

With the creation of Bump City Records, Harvard Bass is extending his brand to other talented producers and ensuring the scene stays fresh with creative ideas. Constant praise pouring in from respected DJs such as Tiga, Richie Hawtin, Boys Noize and Dubfire salutes the burgeoning musical niche that is taking form, with Harvard at the forefront. Armed with the talent and tenacity to succeed, Harvard Bass has been cemented as a force to be reckoned with in House, Techno music and beyond.

The Night Owl Tour at Insert Coin(s) will take place on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 10 pm and give showgoers an up-close-and-personal dance experience with these world-class DJs. Advance tickets are on sale to the public now at a cost of $10 each and can be purchased here. A limited supply of tickets will also be available at the door.
