ABOUT THE UNDERGROUND

The Underground is an immersive Prohibition history experiential exhibition, featuring a distillery, speakeasy and private VIP room located in the basement of The Mob Museum and sponsored by Zappos. Its custom-made, copper-pot still, dubbed “Virginia Still” after mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel’s notorious girlfriend Virginia Hill, has a capacity of 60 gallons and can serve up to 250 750-mL jars of moonshine per week. The Underground also brews and serves craft beer onsite. Artifacts from the 1920s and 1930s on display tell the intriguing story of the Prohibition era, which not only saw a proliferation of bootlegged booze and the meteoric growth of organized crime outfits, but also had a profound, lasting impact on society and culture. Complimentary entrance to The Underground is granted at the secret side entrance to visitors who know the correct password, which is published daily on Instagram Stories @MobMuseum_Underground.

Mayor Goodman and Husband Oscar Goodman Get Cozy Inside The Hangover Bar at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas

MAYOR CAROLYN GOODMAN AND HUSBAND OSCAR GOODMAN GET COZY INSIDE THE HANGOVER BAR AT MADAME TUSSAUDS LAS VEGAS

Love is in the air at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas! Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and her husband, former Mayor Oscar Goodman were spotted sharing a sweet moment inside The Hangover Bar at Madame Tussauds. Sipping their signature cocktails (Carolyn enjoying a cosmopolitan and Oscar a gin martini with whole jalapeno), Mayor Goodman was showered with chocolates and flowers from her loving husband… because, well that’s what husbands do.

The Goodman’s took time out of their equally busy schedules to stop by The Hangover Bar for cocktails and to experience the world-famous attraction who is celebrating their 20th anniversary – and also just debuted their all-new ‘90s pop-up experience – where Mayor Goodman snapped a photo with her husband’s likeness inside the Viva Las Vegas room.

The Hangover Bar is the latest addition to The Hangover Experience, which currently features the notorious hotel suite and wedding chapel, as well as figures of Alan (portrayed by Zach Galifianakis), Phil (portrayed by Bradley Cooper), and Mike Tyson. Set among industrial design elements that invoke the roof of Caesars Palace, where the scene takes place, The Hangover Bar features specialty drinks inspired by the iconic film including the Wolf Pack, Buttery Nipple, Royal Flush, and the 3 Leg Monkey, among others.

Oscar’s Steakhouse and The Mob Museum Make You an Offer You Can’t Refuse

OSCAR’S STEAKHOUSE AND THE MOB MUSEUM MAKE YOU AN
OFFER YOU CAN’T REFUSE

The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, has partnered with Oscar’s steakhouse at the Plaza Hotel and Casino on a package combining admission to the Museum with dinner at former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman’s namesake restaurant.

The package, priced at $99 per person, will pair admission to the Museum with a special prix fix dinner at Oscar’s that includes a cocktail and a special three-course menu: Oscar’s Chopped Salad with Onion Strings; main entrée selection of either an 8-ounce filet mignon, chicken or salmon served with the chef’s choice of vegetable and potato; and a dessert selection of New York cheesecake or a trio of chocolate mousse.

Prior to serving two terms as mayor, Goodman led a successful career as a defense attorney representing numerous individuals charged with organized crime offenses. While serving as mayor, Goodman first envisioned creating a museum dedicated to the history of the Mob in downtown Las Vegas’ former federal building and U.S. post office. In 2012, that vision became a reality when the Museum opened to the public. Today, he serves on the Museum’s Board of Directors.

“Dinner at Oscar’s steakhouse makes a fitting capstone on an afternoon spent exploring the eye-opening history of organized crime and law enforcement at The Mob Museum,” said Ashley Miller, senior director of marketing and public relations, The Mob Museum. “Experience Oscar Goodman’s impact on Las Vegas’ history and culture as well as his signature version of classic Las Vegas hospitality.”

“Oscar’s steakhouse offers a classic Vegas dining experience reminiscent of the days when the infamous mobsters of old Vegas dined at the Plaza,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. “We are happy to partner with The Mob Museum to offer our guests a unique opportunity to enjoy two great, iconic experiences in downtown Las Vegas.”

This special package is available for purchase on the  Oscar’s or Mob Museum websites or in person at either location. Package price does not include gratuity, blackout dates may apply, and guests are encouraged to make dinner reservations online at www.oscarslv.com or by calling 702-38-OSCAR (6-7227).

The Mob Museum Commemorates 20th Anniversary of “Casino” Nov. 7

THE MOB MUSEUM PRESENTS THE REAL STORY BEHIND “CASINO,” A COURTROOM CONVERSATION, SATURDAY, NOV. 7, 7 P.M.

Panel Discussion Coincides with 20th Anniversary
of Film’s Release

In recognition of the 20th anniversary of the release of Martin Scorsese’s award-winning film, “Casino,” The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, presents its next Courtroom Conversation: “The Real Story behind ‘Casino.’” The panel discussion among individuals with firsthand knowledge of the true events on which the movie was based will take place inside the Museum’s historic courtroom on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.

Organized crime’s control of the casino industry was waning during the 1970s, but the Chicago Outfit kept its grip on the Stardust, Fremont, Marina and Hacienda hotels. Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal, a highly regarded sports betting expert, was the Outfit’s man in charge of the skim. Tony Spilotro was sent to the desert to protect Rosenthal as he skimmed millions of dollars of casino profits that were distributed to several Midwestern organized crime groups.

Spilotro caused more problems than he prevented. He demanded a “street tax” from the town’s criminals and set up a burglary ring that smashed holes in the walls and roofs of high-end homes, jewelry stores and other businesses and attracted intense scrutiny from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. In 1979, Spilotro ended up in Nevada’s Black Book, which prevented him from setting foot in a casino. In 1986, his body and that of his brother Michael were found buried in an Indiana cornfield.

Rosenthal, too, was a law enforcement target. He was denied a state gaming license because of his underworld ties, but he secretly operated the Stardust while holding a mid-level title. Rosenthal left Las Vegas soon after surviving a car bombing in October 1982. He was placed in Nevada’s Black Book in 1987 and died in Florida in 2008.

In “Casino,” the Ace Rothstein character, played by Robert De Niro, is based on Rosenthal, while the Nicky Santoro character, played by Joe Pesci, is based on Spilotro.

Panelists include:

  • Oscar Goodman, attorney for Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal and Tony Spilotro
  • Jeff Silver, State Gaming Control Board attorney during Spilotro/Rosenthal era
  • Marc Kaspar, retired FBI agent who pursued Spilotro for a decade
  • Deborah Richard, undercover FBI agent who infiltrated the Spilotro camp
  • Gwen Castaldi, television reporter during the Spilotro/Rosenthal era

Tickets for “The Real Story behind ‘Casino’” are available online here. The cost is $25; Museum Members receive a 10 percent discount. For more information, go to www.TheMobMuseum.org or call (702) 229-2734.

The 3,200 square-foot gallery, designed to best showcase Kush’s collection of original works of art including paintings, bronze and silver sculptures, and a full jewelry line, is complete with a designated space for intimate musical and artistic performances in support of local charities.

“This new gallery is a testament to the human spirit embracing inspiration, imagination and creativity,” said Kush. “We have had a decade-long presence at The Forum Shops and in Las Vegas; I am so pleased to offer an expanded space that is truly a unique setting where art, dreams, music, originality and magic all come together.”

Kush Fine Art is conveniently situated inside The Forum Shops at Caesars on the second level across from the retail center’s iconic spiral escalator. An additional location can be found in the Miracle Mile Shops adjacent to Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.
