Las Vegas Monorail Offers Only Strip Transit for New Year’s Eve

LAS VEGAS MONORAIL TO STAY OPEN ROUND-THE-CLOCK FOR 43 HOURS STRAIGHT FOR NEW YEAR’S REVELERS; LOCALS PAY JUST $1 PER RIDE

Each year, the Monorail is the only motorized form of transportation available along the Las Vegas Strip for the New Year’s Eve holiday.

The Las Vegas Monorail will be the only motorized method of transportation operating along the Las Vegas Strip for New Year’s Eve. It will operate continuously from 7 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 through the entire New Year’s Day (Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019) and until 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, for a total of 43 straight hours.

Locals can purchase $1 single-ride tickets at customer service booths located at every station (except the Las Vegas Convention Center) from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Dec. 31 with proof of Nevada I.D. For out-of-town guests, regularly priced tickets are $5 for a single ride and unlimited-ride passes are available for 24 hours, two days, three days and more beginning at $13. Regular tickets and multi-ride tickets may also be purchased at customer-service booths or online in advance at www.lvmonorail.com.  Electronically purchased tickets may be directly downloaded to riders’ mobile devices for added convenience. More information on this option is available at www.lvmonorail.com/scan-go-mobile-tickets/.

“While the roads are closed to vehicles, the Monorail keeps its trains running to help people travel during Las Vegas’ world-famous New Year’s celebrations,” said Ingrid Reisman, vice president and chief marketing officer, Las Vegas Monorail. “It’s our pleasure to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective transit along the Strip during the destination’s most exciting weekend of the year.”

Last year, more than 300,000 people gathered along the Las Vegas Strip, which shuts down to automobile traffic from approximately 5:45 p.m. New Year’s Eve night until 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day. With streets closed off, the Monorail is the only motorized form of transportation available along the Strip on New Year’s Eve.

The Monorail has five stations along the Las Vegas Strip: MGM Grand; Bally’s/Paris Las Vegas; Flamingo/Caesars Palace; Harrah’s/The LINQ and SLS Las Vegas. Two more stations are located at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Westgate Resort & Casino.

DRAI’S BEACH CLUB AT THE CROMWELL CREATES 35,000 SQUARE
FOOT WONDER 11 STORIES ABOVE LAS VEGAS STRIP

The Cromwell

Beach Club and Pools to Open Memorial Weekend at The Cromwell Las Vegas –Rooms on Sale Now

In a city known for setting the standard for spectacular pools and parties, the bar is about to be raised even higher (literally) this summer with the opening of Drai’s Beach Club in Las Vegas, perched 11 stories above the Strip atop The Cromwell.  With unobstructed views of Las Vegas Blvd. and never-ending sunshine on two levels, the 35,000 square foot Drai’s Beach Club is both an architectural and visual wonder featuring a 360-degree experience with multiple pools, tantalizing cocktails, renowned DJs, VIP luxury cabanas and top-of-the-line gourmet food.  Adding to the already spectacular scenery are ten, 35-foot palm trees (which were recently hoisted by crane to the roof above) which will offer guests ample shade when desired.

The wow factor for hotel guests begins the minute they disembark from the hotel’s elevator where they will be met with never-before-seen views emanating from the corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd. The sparkling new pools are the highlight of the expansive rooftop venue, but the pools share equal billing with the unique vantage point overlooking Caesars Palace and the Bellagio fountains to the west, Bally’s and the Las Vegas Strip to the south and the impressive row of hotels to the north. Located directly above Las Vegas Blvd., Drai’s Beach Club will also be home to an endless day of sun – never disappearing behind hotel towers or buildings. While there are countless perks for staying at The Cromwell, having exclusive guest access to the city’s most splash-worthy new pools is going to be top of the list.

Split into two levels, Drai’s Beach Club is designed to be sexy, sophisticated and most importantly, social. No feature or guest amenity has been forgotten and the Beach Club will cater to every level of pool reveler:

• Two lower level main pools
• Central wet deck and perimeter seating
• 40 poolside day beds
• Nine exclusive VIP Bungalows sharing five elevated pools
• 15 luxury mezzanine level cabanas with private pool with private shower/restroom
• Two full bars
• Elevated DJ booth
• Ten 35-foot natural palm trees
• Unobstructed sunlight and views
• Drai’s unparalleled service

“I’ve been dreaming of building a day/night club for the past 15 years,” explains Victor Drai. “With the creation of The Cromwell, the opportunity finally arrived to make my dream a reality. The Beach Club and pools at Drai’s Beach Club will be like nothing that exists in Las Vegas. The size, scope and attention to detail, design and guest experience has driven our concept. I always build my venues so that there is a ‘wow’ factor from the minute you arrive. When a guest steps off the elevator, they are going to marvel at what we have built and the never before-seen-view will provide an unforgettable experience.”

Drai’s Beach Club
Drai’s Beach Club is located on the roof at The Cromwell, the Strip’s first stand-alone boutique hotel and casino. Hotel guests of The Cromwell will enjoy the opportunity to experience this one-of-a-kind rooftop pool daily from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. The unique pool experience becomes Drai’s Beach Club Friday – Sunday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and transforms into Drai’s Nightclub Thursday – Sunday at 10 p.m.

Phil Lewis featuring Sin City Sinners – Monday Night Rocks
10:30 p.m.
Singer for the LA Guns and rock guitarist, Phil Lewis, will perform at Crown Theater alongside Sin City Sinners. Lewis started in the music industry when he formed a glam rock band called Girl, which signed with Jet Records in 1979 under Don Arden’s label, who happened to be Sharon Osbourne’s father. The group toured with acts such as Ozzy Osbourne and ZZ Top. Lewis eventually began working with guitarist Bernie Torme, touring and playing to sold-out audiences across England in 1985. In 1987, Lewis auditioned for the band L.A. Guns and was quickly picked up as the lead singer. After a lot of hard work, the band signed to Polygram Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1988. L.A. Guns opened for AC/DC and Def Leppard, among others, and sold more than half a million copies of the album in America alone. The song, “The Ballad of Jayne,” from their second album Cocked and Loaded, was a top 20 hit and was the most requested song on MTV for two weeks. Lewis took a break from the band and in 1994 he built a recording studio to start producing local bands. During this time, he also recorded his first solo album, More Purple Than Black. Between 1996 and 1998 he showed how multi-talented he was when he worked as the recording engineer/editor for the Fox Sports Network. A year later in 1999, the L.A. Guns reunited to record another album and tour Europe and Japan. In 2005, Lewis worked with producer Andy Johns and another friend to record Tales From The Strip, which received great reviews. He recently released the instrumental album, Green Room, which was released in 2010.

Lewis will join the Sin City Sinners, a band comprised of lead rock musicians that perform at different venues around Las Vegas. Guests must be 21 years or older to attend. Guests can visit http://www.mondaynightrocks.com/ for complimentary tickets.

The Las Vegas Showgirl Turns 30: Jubilee! Celebrates 30-Year Run this July

THE SHOWGIRL TURNS 30…JUBILEE! AT BALLY’S LAS VEGAS CELEBRATES HISTORIC 30-YEAR RUN THIS JULY

After 18,720 Shows, Entertaining More Than 18 Million Guests and Dancing
Through Over 500,000 Pairs of Tights, Jubilee! is the Longest Running Show
on the Las Vegas Strip

All anniversaries are special, but on July 30, 2011, Jubilee! at Bally’s Las Vegas will not only celebrate its Pearl anniversary; it will secure a place in Las Vegas history as the longest-running show on the famous Las Vegas Strip. The iconic and ultra-glamorous Showgirl has become synonymous with Las Vegas, and Jubilee! proudly stands as the last production show of its kind. Conceived, staged and directed by the legendary Donn Arden, the elaborate retro-glam extravaganza features lavish costumes, dazzling scenery, world-renowned specialty acts, dynamic music, graceful pageantry and of course, gorgeous showgirls wearing their trademark bright shade of red lipstick.

While dancing shows have taken American television by storm and regenerated interest in dance as entertainment, Jubilee! at Bally’s Las Vegas put the spotlight on intricate dance moves back in 1981—the same time that Michael Jackson’s Thriller started its record-breaking run and “I Want My MTV” became a pop culture phenomenon. With 85 dancers of amazing stature (the true showgirl must be at least 5’8” and the men 6’0” and over), accomplished singers, and three specialty performances, Jubilee! is set in seven acts featuring original songs, dances and productions.

The Broadway meets Vegas Glitz production numbers are astounding in size and scope. The stage itself is 190 feet in length and 73 feet deep – making it half the size of a football field and 15 stories tall from the bottom of the orchestra pit to the roof. The show contains sequences not found on any other stage in the world, including amazing aerial stunts and memorable scenes such as “The Sinking of the Titanic” (where 5,000 gallons of recycled water cascade across the stage during the “iceberg” scene) and “The Destruction of the Temple by Samson.” The finale, which includes the famous Red Feather Fan number with the songs, “In the Still of the Night,” “Night and Day,” “Begin the Beguine,” and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” has remained a show-stopper for the 30-year run. From beginning to end, Jubilee! features 100 different sets and backdrops,100,000 light bulbs and more than 125 miles of wiring. Additionally, 4,200 pounds of dry ice are used every week to create the smoke effects, and 10 pounds of explosives are used nightly in the 50 different pyrotechnical effects

The 85 showgirls and showboys who make up the historic cast are selected via casting calls held throughout the country several times a year. Not unlike the famed Rockettes, Jubilee! dancers are in a class by themselves, and over the 30-year history the show has featured more than a thousand dancers. With countless hours of rehearsals, choreography and mastering large productions and dance routines, what really separates the Jubilee! Showgirl is her ability to wear the world-renowned head dress, which can weigh up to 22 pounds.

With more than 1,000 costumes worn during the show, Jubilee! has also created 30 years of brilliant stage couture, with many of the costumes having been designed by famed designer Pete Menefee. The original cost for the costumes was $3.5 million, and 18 people currently work in wardrobe every night keeping the costumes in excellent shape. The rhinestones used on the costumers are silver plated Austrian Swarovski crystals, the highest quality rhinestone in the world. There was actually a worldwide shortage of rhinestones in 1981 because they were all being used to create the original Jubilee! costumes. Topaz, crystal, sapphire, emerald, ruby, amethyst and aurora borealis rhinestones are also used, and if all the jewelry from the show were weighed together, it would weigh 10,000 pounds. Mostly ostrich and pheasant feathers are used on the costumes, as well as rooster, turkey and vulture feathers.

“We know a woman never likes to tell her age, but we are so proud of the Showgirl turning 30,” laughs David Hoenemeyer, Bally’s Las Vegas regional president. “To now be reaching our 30th Anniversary is an amazing feat. It’s such an exciting time because there is obviously a renewed interest in dance and the dancers themselves. I think Jubilee! is a great example of how something unique, distinctive and extraordinary really never goes out of style. Big productions, concerts and special events come and go in Las Vegas, but only one show has outlived them all, and it’s Jubilee! We feel that we are bringing a bit of classic Las Vegas to our guests every night we perform.”
