ARIA’s 200,000-Square-Foot Convention Center Expansion Opens; Introduces Innovative New Executive Meeting Lounge

ARIA’s 200,000-Square-Foot Convention Center Expansion Opens;

Introduces Innovative New Executive Meeting Lounge

LEED Gold-Certified Convention Center Now Features 500,000 Square Feet of Space

One of North America’s premier destinations for large-scale, tech-forward conferences and events, ARIA Resort & Casino has opened an additional 200,000 square feet of flexible meeting space across four stories. The approximately $170 million expansion is highlighted by stunning indoor/open-air verandas with retractable windows and dramatic views of The Park and T-Mobile Arena

The new space, seamlessly integrated with ARIA’s existing convention center, incorporates features such as outdoor offerings, views, additional natural light and non-traditional meeting areas. For those wanting an exclusive gathering area, the discreetly marked Cypress Executive Lounge is a Las Vegas first that will exceed expectations. The 3,000-square-foot space features a fully stocked pantry, 3 private suites for personal workspaces and one-on-one meetings, a conference room with flexible furniture set ups for up to 30, and a beautiful study for toasting to a successful event.

Also within the 200,000-square-foot expansion, guests will discover ballrooms with built-in stages, an exclusive loading dock with megavator for events requiring sizable displays, versatile indoor-outdoor breakout rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows and ample pre-function spaces. The top floor is one of Las Vegas’ most distinctive meeting venues: a vast ballroom with two impressive open-air verandas that can accommodate receptions for up to 2,000 attendees. For those looking for special off-site options, The Park, T-Mobile Arena and Toshiba Plaza are just steps away and provide a variety of settings, entertainment and food & beverage options.

Now with a total of 500,000 square feet of convention space and diverse options within the neighborhood, ARIA can accommodate larger convention groups and attract new business.

“Convention business demand at ARIA continues to grow, especially as planners discover we can accommodate larger groups, allowing us to book into 2020 and beyond,” said Tony Yousfi, ARIA’s vice president of Sales. “With this expansion, we can better service our clients’ needs and increase the spectrum of events we can host.”

Another differentiator for the AAA Five Diamond ARIA is that the new convention space maintains MGM Resorts’ commitment to build new venues to LEED Gold standards or better, creating one of the most expansive high-end, environmentally friendly meeting facilities in the world. Already an established leader in this area, ARIA has earned the prestigious five keys from Green Key Global’s Eco-Rating Program.

Client responses to the expansion:

Muriel Wilson, Virtuoso’s Director of Events said, “Virtuoso’s events have been growing year over year, and with that growth comes the demand for more meeting space.  Thankfully, we have a fantastic working relationship with ARIA that has been built on a foundation of collaboration.  Since our events have pushed beyond the industry’s traditional setup and design, the ARIA team has worked with us to use their meeting space more creatively, and we are proud to be one of the first shows to take advantage of their new expansion. In addition, with so much renovation in Las Vegas right now plus Virtuoso’s strong focus on sustainability, ARIA is a natural fit with their LEED certification and daily commitment to conserving natural resources.”

David Hansen, Virtuoso’s Senior Vice President of Events, elaborated, “When selecting a location for our largest annual event, only the best will suffice for the world’s top and most discerning travel advisors from countries across the globe.  ARIA’s remarkable new space has elevated their already impressive game to a whole new level, which will allow us to continue hosting Virtuoso Travel Week, luxury travel’s preeminent show, in Las Vegas.”

Matt Thompson, executive vice president of Worldwide Field Operations at Adobe, said, “We’ve enjoyed a strong working relationship with ARIA for several years, hosting our annual sales conference at the property. The experience for our meeting and our employees has been first-rate every time. With the convention center expansion – alongside our continued growth – we know ARIA will continue to accommodate our group now and into the future.”

Stephan Gray, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for Kronos Incorporated, said, “After several very successful years at ARIA during which our customer conference continued to grow in size and complexity, we unfortunately found ourselves pushing the limits on available space. With the new expansion, we were able to reconsider our multi-year plan, keeping our customers at a Five Diamond resort that offers superior meeting space and top-notch conference and catering teams.”

ARIA has received numerous accolades including being named among the top 10 meeting resorts in North America in 2017 by Cvent, an industry leader specializing in meetings management technology.

“The ability to offer our devoted customers a connection from Borgata to sister properties in Las Vegas and throughout the country is an invaluable asset and something that we are extremely eager to introduce,” said Tom Ballance, President and Chief Operating Officer for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. “The timing couldn’t be more ideal, as MGM Resorts expands their presence into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast United States with the recent opening of the $1.4 billion MGM National Harbor in Maryland and the upcoming 2018 opening of MGM Springfield in Massachusetts.”

Borgata will adopt M life Rewards’ five member tiers – Sapphire, Pearl, Gold, Platinum and the premium, invitation-only NOIR. New members can sign up for free, starting at Sapphire. Chocolate-lovers beware! Zombies in search of their next victim haunt Jean Philippe Pâtisserie at Bellagioand Aria with Halloween-themed displays at both iconic pastry shop locations. From gory and gruesome body parts to whimsical cakes and pastries, the displays cater to every guest, no matter how they prefer to celebrate the holiday. Executive Pastry Chef Claude Escamilla and his talented team worked diligently for eight months to create more than 45 festive showpieces that place the undead at center stage. With a year of planning, countless sketches and hundreds of ideas from skilled pastry artists, the final display showcases their hard work through a cake closely resembling human flesh, tombstones straight out of a horror movie and many more hair-raising pieces.

“I was very much inspired by my favorite TV program, “The Walking Dead,” said Escamilla. “When I was watching the show, I kept thinking about how I could take the characters and turn them into life-size creations for the holiday.”

ARIA’s main showpiece is a 200-pound, six-foot-tall male zombie made out of chocolate and rolling fondant. Due to his bold, statuesque position near the shop, guests are encouraged to take goosebump-worthy selfies with him if they dare. Another sight to behold is the life-size skeleton perched in a chocolate electric chair. This design took the team more than 70 hours to complete, using approximately 130 pounds of white and dark chocolate.

Combining the glitz and glamour of Sin City with a decrepit scene, a zombie showgirl is the main focal point at Bellagio. Standing alongside a rundown “Welcome to Las Vegas Sign” and in a mountain of rubble made from cookie and sugar pieces, she was created using nearly160 pounds of chocolate and 75 pounds of rolling fondant. Scary zombie heads, wicked jack-o’-lanterns and other intricate, holiday-inspired delights decorate every nook and corner in both European pastry shops, each creating complete Halloween scenes.

Guests also can take home delicious Halloween treats, such as spider cupcakes and chocolate ghosts, available for purchase in-store at both Bellagio and ARIA locations and online at www.jpchocolates.com. Jean Philippe Pâtisserie also offers an assortment of French favorites including crêpes, pastries, chocolates and gelatos in addition to a wide variety of retail selections and custom cakes.

Mandalay Bay Opens Convention Center’s 350,000-Square-Foot Expansion & Welcomes First Group

Mandalay Bay Opens Convention Center’s 350,000-Square-Foot Expansion & Welcomes First Group

Las Vegas’ Premier Meetings & Convention Destination Hosts MAGIC within New Expansion Space

mandalay bay1

Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino opens the Convention Center’s 350,000-square-foot expansion this week and welcomes its first group into the new space. Creating the most customer-focused convention facility in North America, the $70 million expansion allows Mandalay Bay to grow current shows and attract new groups with the added flexibility.

Based on customer demand, the resort built new exhibit space, a 20,000-square-foot foyer and underground parking in this first phase, strengthening its position as a leader in the meetings and trade show industry. The second and final phase of the expansion will transition existing space into a 70,000-square-foot carpeted ballroom to accommodate new corporate partners and associations as well as achieve greater utilization of the entire facility.

Construction began in October 2014 and upon completion of this project in January 2016, the Mandalay Bay Convention Center will boast more than 2 million total square feet and over 900,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space. This new space elevates its ranking in North America to No. 5 in both total square feet and exhibit space.

“The opening of our convention center expansion is another exciting milestone in the multi-year transformation of our resort,” said Chuck Bowling, President and COO of Mandalay Bay. “The response to booking the space has exceeded our expectations, and we believe this investment will increase visitation to Las Vegas, driving incremental business to MGM Resorts’ portfolio and the city overall.”

Stephanie Glanzer, vice president of Sales at Mandalay Bay, said, “In addition to the convention center expansion, we recently announced and are undergoing our 3,000-room remodel. These updates combined with numerous other new offerings and venues solidify Mandalay Bay as a top choice for corporate groups and trade shows of all sizes. One of our larger shows, MAGIC, is a valued loyal customer and we are pleased to welcome them as our first group into the new space.”

MAGIC, the world’s largest fashion marketplace featuring the latest trends in apparel and much more, has been a long-time client of Mandalay Bay and has been able to grow its show with the resort’s growth. Tony Calanca, Executive Vice President of Exhibitions for UBM ADVANSTAR, said, “We have enjoyed working with the professionals at Mandalay Bay throughout the years and appreciate their willingness to help us create the most positive, productive experiences for our customers. Mandalay Bay changed their construction plans to meet our growth needs, and we are proud to have MAGIC be the first show in the new expansion.”

The resort’s state-of-the-art, high-density Wi-Fi has been added to the new space to accommodate more attendees, provide unique custom solutions based on the needs of the group and allow for the most advanced presentations. The system’s benefits include the convenience of a one-time log-in for convention goers during their stay and the seamless connectivity throughout Mandalay Bay, from the convention center to public indoor and outdoor spaces to the guest rooms. A distinct capability that sets this Wi-Fi apart from all others is convention attendees will stay connected with the same high-performance Wi-Fi when visiting any MGM Resorts destination along The Strip from Mandalay Bay to The Mirage, including MGM Grand, Bellagio and ARIA.

Further solidifying what already is the largest convention center solar array in the world, the expanded Mandalay Bay Convention Center is incorporating an additional rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) array spanning 8 acres. Upon completion in Fall 2015, the added portion of the array will generate approximately 1.9 MW with an approximate annual production of 3.4M kilowatt hours. Covering more than 28 acres, the combined array will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 1,300 homes.

Mandalay Bay and the Mandalay Bay Convention Center hold coveted Five Key ratings from the Green Key Eco-Rating and Meetings Programs. In addition, TripAdvisor has awarded the resort Gold in its GreenLeaders Program. Mandalay Bay integrates environmentally responsible practices into its operations including the recycling of more than 80 percent of all convention materials. From sustainable service ware and organic, sustainable menus to zero waste recycling, Mandalay Bay’s Convention Service Managers offer a number of options to help each group conduct green and socially responsible meetings.

Las Vegas has been the No. 1 trade show destination in North America for 21 consecutive years, and this significant investment demonstrates Mandalay Bay’s continued commitment to the city of Las Vegas.

TV Personality Ross Mathews Hosts AFAN’s 29th Annual Black & White Party

TV personality Ross Mathews will bring his charisma and his own fashion-forward monochromatic look to Las Vegas when he hosts Aid for AIDS of Nevada’s (AFAN) 29th Annual Black & White Party on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 9 p.m. inside The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The premier party of the year will showcase a pop up wedding chapel and fully ordained officiant to perform weddings and vow renewals for the first time in Black & White history.

Entertainers including The Perry Twins, Maren Wade, “Love is Love” by Legends in Concert, Pia Zadora, DJ Axis, Nick Ayler, The Sound Collage, Brandon Godfrey and Boiis will take the stage while steampunk-inspired decor from the International Special Events Society (ISES) transforms the venue.

Guests will sample bites from top restaurants including Culinary Dropout, Ferraro’s, FU, Pink Taco, 35 Steaks + Martinis, Hexx, Popcorn Girl, Jamba Juice, Brio and more. Back Bar USA will pour top shelf spirits from its portfolio of brands including Bacardi, Corona, Cavalli Vodka, Absolut and Jameson.

More than 40 raffle prizes will be up for grabs including packages from Aria, Life is Beautiful, Mandarin Oriental, Exotics Racing, Penn & Teller and The Cosmopolitan.

The $50 GA ticket price also grants admission to the official after party at Piranha Nightclub and Temptation Sundays pool party at the Luxor the following day.

While the Black & White is an unforgettable festive atmosphere, AFAN Executive Director Antioco Carrillo wants guests to remember the evening still has a sobering purpose to fight HIV/AIDS and eradicate the stigma it carries in Southern Nevada.

“We want people to get dressed up, come let loose and have the time of their lives,” said Carrillo. “But at the same time, it’s important to remember the event is ultimately dedicated to raising funds for locals living with AIDS and sending a message of prevention.”

Tickets can be purchased at afanlv.org. $130 VIP tickets with early entry at 8 p.m. or VIP tables with four tickets for $600 are also available. Guests must be 21+ years old and black and white attire required for admission.

Hard Rock Hotel is offering a special room package for party attendees by visiting hardrockhotel.com/las-vegas-specials/hotel-deals/afan-black-white-ball/803 or calling 800.343.4346 and using code HAFAN15
