Tragically, due to fear and ignorance of the disease, he was forced to live, and eventually die, in his family’s garage. To raise prevention awareness and money to assist those affected by the disease, entertainers organized the show. The show, then called “Golden Rainbow,” led to the creation of the nonprofit organization. The annual event is one of the largest HIV/AIDS fundraisers in the state of Nevada and is Golden Rainbow’s main source of revenue.

That first show was called “Golden Rainbow” and premiered July 11, 1987, in the Ziegfeld Theatre at Bally’s.
