Golden Rainbow Announces “Ribbon of Life” Talent Lineup and Living Ribbon Kick-Off Event

Golden Rainbow has announced a star-studded talent lineup for this year’s “Ribbon of Life.” The 2015 showcase, Rockin’ the Ribbon, will feature stars from Las Vegas’ favorite shows including “ShowStoppers,” “Jubilee,” “Jersey Boys,” “Million Dollar Quartet,” “MJ Live,” “Legends in Concert,” “Pin Up,” “Vegas! The Show,” and more. The rock and roll themed show will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 28 at The New Tropicana Las Vegas. Tickets are now on sale at www.goldenrainbow.org.

“Since its inception almost 30 years ago, Golden Rainbow has assembled the most talented performers in Las Vegas to raise awareness and funds for those affected by HIV/AIDS,” said Golden Rainbow Executive Director Gary Costa. “We are so pleased that ‘Ribbon of Life’ will continue its reputation of assembling the best possible entertainment for such a worthy cause again this year.”

To kick off “Ribbon of Life,” Golden Rainbow will build a Living Ribbon on Wednesday, June 10. Attendees are encouraged to show up at the corner of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard (outside of The New Tropicana Las Vegas), donning their favorite shades of red at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. participants will be put into the formation of a ribbon as a symbol of solidarity for people living with HIV/AIDS. A limited quantity of red shirts will also be provided on site for walk-up participants.

Rockin’ the Ribbon will benefit men, women, and children living in Clark County whose lives are affected by HIV/AIDS. The production will feature a wide variety of rock and roll themed numbers performed by stars of the Las Vegas Strip. The 29th annual “Ribbon of Life” event will be hosted by Edie (“Zumanity”) and Sean McAllister (“MORE” and “MORE Access”). The show will be immediately followed by an after party in the Havana Room, where attendees can mix and mingle with performers and partake in a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres.

“Ribbon of Life” was created 29 years ago by members of the Las Vegas entertainment industry who saw the need for a support system when one of their colleagues was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. To raise awareness and money in order to help fight the disease, entertainers organized a show. The show, then called “Golden Rainbow,” led to the creation of the nonprofit organization. The annual event is one of the largest HIV/AIDS fundraisers in the state of Nevada and is Golden Rainbow’s main source of revenue.

Tickets are now on sale and sponsorship packages are available. For more information, visit www.goldenrainbow.org.

Mark Shunock Announces June Edition of “Mondays Dark” to Benefit
Rudy Foundation with Special Showcase, “Mama Rocks A Million Boys” Featuring The Strip’s Four Resident Broadway Shows at Vinyl inside
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

Monday, June 16th at 8:30 p.m.

Mark Shunock is proud to announce that the June showcase of Mondays Dark will take place on Monday, June 16 at 8:30 p.m. at Vinyl inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.  Following the success of last month’s “Boy Band Night,” 100 percent of the ticket proceeds from the June showcase will benefit Rudy Foundation, and will feature the music of Tony-nominated musicals in an electrifying evening, “Mama Rocks A Million Boys,” showcasing energetic scene favorites from the four celebrated Las Vegas Broadway musicals:  Mamma Mia!, Rock of Ages, Million Dollar Quartet, and Jersey Boys.

“Last month’s ‘Boy Band Night’ was a blast, and this month’s Broadway-themed show shouldn’t be missed, especially with the Tony Awards coming up very soon,” says Shunock, who plays Lonny in the hit Rock of Ages at The Venetian. “The support of the community and the performers here in Las Vegas has truly inspired me to take ‘Mondays Dark’ to a new level each month so that we can continue to raise much needed funds for local charities.”

Every month, Shunock gathers an eclectic cast of guests including stars from Hollywood, the Strip, musical acts, athletes and celebrity chefs for 90 minutes of chat, entertainment – and a lot of laughs. Mondays Dark partners with a different Las Vegas-based charity to raise money each month for that charity through ticket sales and silent auction items.

This month, “Mondays Dark” will partner with recent Best of Henderson honoree Rudy Foundation, a 501©(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities by bringing people together, providing scholarship opportunities in the areas of education, sports, and the performing arts, and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

“It’s an honor to be selected as the charity of choice for Mondays Dark,” says Cheryl Ruettiger, co-founder and executive director of Rudy Foundation. “Mark and Rudy Foundation have a common goal of empowering the youth of Las Vegas through the performing arts in ways that bring our community together.”

Rudy Foundation was inspired by the story of Daniel ‘Rudy’ Ruettiger, a Las Vegas local who grew up in a small town with the dream of playing football at Notre Dame University. Against all obstacles, from low grades and financial hardship to his 5’6” stature, Ruettiger’s spirit and determination persevered, allowing him to be an instrumental force in his team’s win against Georgia Tech. The story of his triumph was told in the 1993 blockbuster film, Rudy, starring Sean Astin.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by visiting www.MondaysDark.com and are limited to 200 tickets per event. For more information please call 702-485-1262. Follow us on Twitter @Mondays_Dark.  To donate silent auction items please call 702-485-1262.

EVENT RECAP: MORE THAN 11,000 KRIS KRINGLE LOOKALIKES JOIN SHANIA TWAIN AT LAS VEGAS GREAT SANTA RUN

On Saturday, December 7, Opportunity Village made history as 11,221 participants dressed like Kris Kringle for the ninth annual Las Vegas Great Santa Run in Downtown Las Vegas. Led by Grand Marshal Shania Twain, the iconic event beat its personal record and defeated Liverpool rivals for the “World Santa Challenge” championship.

“We were blown away by the outpouring of support from the Las Vegas community,” said Linda Smith, Associate Executive Director of Opportunity Village. “This was truly one of our best events yet, and we look forward to keeping the momentum going into the run’s 10th year.”

Shania Twain, who currently headlines SHANIA: STILL THE ONE at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace looked glamorous in a white Santa hat and chic black and white cape.

“I want to give all of you a big thank you for supporting this beautiful cause,” she told the excited crowd as she beamed from Fremont Street Experience’s Third Street Stage.

After the national anthem, sung by JERSEY BOYS star Jeff Leibow, Twain guided the racers to the starting line on East Fremont Street where she was escorted by none other than Santa Claus in a shiny, red Jeep “sleigh” provided by Sahara Chrysler Dodge Jeep. Twain led the traditional “on your mark, get set, go!” countdown to start the race and the thousands of runners took off for the 5k, followed shortly by a one-mile Kris Kringle Jingle walk.

In honor of the event’s return to Downtown Las Vegas, Mayor Carolyn Goodman declared the morning’s festivities as the city’s official “Las Vegas Great Santa Run Day.” Representatives from Liverpool’s Santa Dash were on-hand to award the “World Santa Challenge” trophy to Opportunity Village, which has now held the coveted title for nine years. Shania Twain’s Great Santa Run team won the prize for the most funds raised and The Venetian/Palazzo took the title of the largest race team.

Throughout the day, racers were treated to acts from Las Vegas’ hottest performers: Jabbawockeez taught the Santas a special dance as part of their #CokeRedMoves campaign and had everyone grooving with the official Coca-Cola polar bear; Zumba girls, Kat & J-John, warmed up the audience with exciting aerobics; Chris Phillips of Zowie Bowie had the crowd singing along to holiday classics; Opportunity Village’s “OV Elvi” drummed and danced to some of Elvis’ greatest hits; and George Dare belted out event’s official theme song, “Run, Santa, Run!”

Hungry racers stopped by popular food truck Lobster ME for a post-race bite, and event sponsors Krispy Kreme, Circle K Convenience Stores, Jamba Juice and Core Power provided runners with free food samples throughout the morning. The fun continued after the race as Hennessey’s Las Vegas hosted the official Great Santa Run after party.
