WHAT:

To celebrate Kefauver Day, Nov. 15, The Mob Museum announces FREE admission for Nevada residents and buy one admission, get one free for non-residents, sponsored by Zappos.

The Museum places significant focus on increasing its accessibility to the community. Throughout the year, it extends free admission to Nevada residents through designated Annual Free Days and monthly community safety forums, serving approximately 6,000 guests per year.

Kefauver Day commemorates the Kefauver Committee hearing that took place in the Museum’s courtroom in 1950. Named after Senator Estes Kefauver of Tennessee, the Kefauver Committee hearings were televised and brought organized crime into the living rooms of many Americans for the first time. They were held in 14 U.S. cities from 1950 to 1951 and were pivotal in the national fight against organized crime, as well as events that influenced the development of Las Vegas.

On this day, guests can also receive 20 percent off all food and beverage inside The Underground speakeasy and distillery, home to the Museum’s house-made moonshine.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, invites the women of Las Vegas to ditch their heels and sport their favorite pair of flats at the tournament’s ninth annual Kick Off Your Heels Luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. in The Hill at TPC Summerlin.

 

During the event, guests will enjoy exceptional views of TPC Summerlin from The Hill, a luxurious 10,000 square-foot entertainment pavilion overlooking the 16th, 17th and 18th holes. Guests will enjoy a special meal prepared by Maggiano’s Little Italy – Downtown Summerlin.  Guests will have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items with the proceeds directly benefitting the patients of Shriners Hospitals for Children nationwide.  The Shriners Hospital for Children is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which provides innovative specialty care to children with orthopedic conditions, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate and burns regardless of a family’s ability to pay.

The star-studded evening of inspiration is set for Friday, Sept. 6 at Wynn Las Vegas and is currently sold out.

TRF Legacy Honoree: Tim and Amy Cantor
Tim Cantor’s extraordinary artistic vision has been apparent since he began oil painting at just five years old. By age 15, he was given his first art exhibition, whereupon one of his paintings was acquired to hang in the White House. After marrying Amy, the love of his life and his partner in all things, Tim’s reputation continued to expand across the world. In 2015, Tim and Amy began working closely with Imagine Dragons to create the cover of the band’s second album, Smoke + Mirrors, as well as 13 paintings representing each song on the album. The partnership only deepened as the art was integrated into the band’s music video for “Shots,” featured in the tour production, and became a touring art exhibition accompanying Imagine Dragons at more than 60 stops in North America and Asia. The Donut Bar in Downtown Las Vegas has joined the fight to combat youth homelessness with a special promotion in conjunction with the 10th Annual Homeless Youth in the Alley Bowling Tournament to benefit Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.

 

From Sunday, May 5 to Saturday, May 11, the Donut Bar will donate 25 percent of donut sales of the “HYA Donut Special” to the nonprofit Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, the most comprehensive provider of life-saving services for homeless youth in Southern Nevada. The designated donut is the Crème Brulèe Donut, the Donut Bar’s most popular offering.

 

The Donut Bar promotion leads up to the Homeless Youth in the Alley Bowling Tournament on Saturday, May 11 at the Suncoast Bowling Center, and allows the community to help homeless youth who may not be able participate in either the “Superheroes by Day” event or “Vigilantes by Night” competition.  Tickets are still available with prices starting at $25 per bowler or $125 per team of five. The Las Vegas Fashion Council’s (LVFC) artLIVE! returns for its fourth annual installment on Friday, Oct. 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Zappos Headquarters in Downtown Las Vegas. A collective of top Las Vegas artists and designers will debut 10 one-of-a-kind hand-painted mannequins during a silent auction with proceeds to benefit the LVFC’s scholarship fund.

The unique showcase will feature live activations including sand art, body painting and art in action while guests enjoy DJ’d entertainment and light refreshments throughout the evening. In an effort to benefit the LVFC’s scholarship Fund, in support of emerging student artists and designers, guests can bid on a variety of culinary, fashion, beauty and art silent auction packages.

The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces The Underground’s first “Zap-on-Tap” brew, Z’Cream Dream.  Zap-on-Tap is a collaboration with Zappos, the signature sponsor of The Underground which is the Museum’s new Prohibition history exhibition featuring a distillery, brewery and speakeasy. As part of its sponsorship, the Zappos team has the privilege of collaborating on the creation of one of The Underground’s seasonal beer selections available to the public.  Z’Cream Dream will be available from July 5 through August 31. A new Zappos craft beer selection will be introduced on September 1.

House-brewed in The Underground at The Mob Museum’s immersive Prohibition history exhibition, which also includes a moonshine distillery and speakeasy, Z’Cream Dream is a cream ale with subtle notes of sweet blood orange and the presence of vanilla. This light and crisp summertime ale will transport you back to your favorite childhood treat. ABV 5.8%. It is available for $8 per pint glass.

In order to craft Zap-on-Tap, the designated Zappos “brewers” meet with The Underground’s  expert team to learn about the process of beer making. Subsequently, they consult The Underground’s Zap-on-Tap decision-making guide to determine the beer they wish to make—anything from a light and refreshing wheat beer; to a crisp, citrusy and bitter pale ale; to a malt and somewhat sweet brown ale. They can choose additional flavor essences to customize their brew selection and then, of course, decide on the perfect name for their concoction.

“Zappos is excited to bring Zap-on-Tap to life in partnership with The Underground at  The Mob Museum,” said Loren Becker, experience and community team manager, Zappos.  “To craft each Zap-on-Tap selection, we assemble a team of the most knowledgeable Zappos ‘beer nerds’ by hosting regular beer trivia contests for our employees. The Underground’s speakeasy is a full-service bar purveying not only house-distilled moonshine and craft beer, but also wines by the glass, non-alcoholic beverages and—of course—a tempting array of authentic, Prohibition-inspired cocktails. During The Underground’s new Happy Hour, taking place from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, visitors can enjoy 20 percent off select cocktails, draft beer and wine by the glass.

GIRLS ON THE RUN LAS VEGAS

Registration has begun for the 2017 spring season of Girls on the Run Las Vegas, a 10-week health and empowerment program for elementary and middle school girls across the valley.

 

Girls on the Run Las Vegas will celebrate its fifth year in Clark County with record-breaking participation as the program expands its reach, serving 37 elementary and middle schools plus four Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada locations. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd through 8th grade to be joyful, healthy and confident. Volunteer coaches meet with small groups of 8 to 15 girls for 20 sessions that encourages personal development, team building and connection to the community.

The program culminates with a celebratory 5k run/walk for girls, their families and friends. This year’s event has a new home and new presenting sponsor. “Girls on the Run embodies everything we look for in a community partner,” said Trevor Hays, Regional Director of Communication for UnitedHealthcare. “By teaching young girls the importance of making healthy choices, setting goals, embracing their individuality and approaching challenges positively, the program teaches critical tools that will impact them for a lifetime. The fitness the girls develop along with the life skills makes the program unique and very powerful.”

 

Girls on the Run has served 1.2 million girls collectively since its inception in 1996 and can be found in all 50 states and Canada.

 

“We’re excited to celebrate our fifth year of helping local girls reach their full potential,” said Brigette Kirvin, Executive Director of Girls on the Run Las Vegas. “We’re grateful that Health Plan of Nevada sees the challenges facing girls today and how our program provides the tools and motivation to overcome those challenges.”

For the first time at Life is Beautiful Music & Art Festival, ticketholders will laugh until their sides hurt with the addition of THE KINDHOUSE, offering a daily standup comedy lineup. Located inside Place on 7th, the comedy showcase brings the venue to life with popular comedic acts, DJ performances, spa services, a lounge and bar, food trucks and more.

 

“We have music, art, learning, theatrical performances and now comedy for our fans to explore,” said Ryan Doherty, chief experience officer for Life is Beautiful. “The addition of the comedy lineup allows us to offer something new for our festival goers and continue to create an all-encompassing experience for our attendees.”

 

Friday’s entertainment, sponsored by Zappos and hosted by Sam Tallent, will begin at 2:30 p.m. and run until 8 p.m., featuring performances by comedic masterminds Joe Gorman, Clare O’Kabe, Eddie Pepitone, Sean Keane, David Gborie, Todd Glass, Josh Androsky, Caitlin Gill, Kaseem Bently and Baron Vaughn.

 

Presented by Crapshoot Comedy, Saturday will include three showcase style performances at 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. lead by comedic stars, DJ Douggpound, Byron Bowers, Sean Patton and Emily Heller.

 

Hosted by comedian Bobby Wayne Stauts, Sunday will feature local Las Vegas comedians, with two shows at 4 and 7 p.m. Comedians on the lineup include Ari Phillips, Matt Markman, Jozalyn Sharp and Jason Harris.

Motley Brews’ Downtown Brew Festival (DBF) returns to the Clark County Amphitheater for its fifth anniversary celebration on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 5 to 9 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m. for Early Entry and VIP ticketholders. This intimate installation of Motley Brews’ famous craft beer festival offers fans the opportunity to sample brews from near and far in the quest to explore new and exciting craft beer flavors. With this year marking the fifth anniversary, here are five reasons you definitely can’t miss out:

The Downtown Brew Festival boasts a flavorful roster of 200 of the world’s top craft brews from over 60 different local, regional, national and international breweries. Each brewery will bring the top brews of the season, allowing ticketholders to sample favorites while discovering new tastes. New to this year’s lineup include Nevada locals Lovelady Brewing Company, Record Street Brewing Company and Able Baker Brewing Company, with national newcomers such as Bootlegger’s Brewery, Dudes Brewing Company, 101 North Brewing Company, BoochCraft and Brew Rebellion.

Celebrities, including DNCE front man Joe Jonas, Amber Rose, G-Eazy, Ed Westwick, Kat Graham, Kellan Lutz, Icona Pop, Jillionaire of Major Lazer and more flocked to Palm Springs where the energy and excitement of Las Vegas came to life throughout the weekend (April 16-17). Thousands of partygoers joined the destination as it unveiled its first ever product, #WHHSH (What Happens Here, Stays Here) Beer, alongside immersive experiences by some of Las Vegas’ premier brands.

#WHHSH Beer captures the essence of Las Vegas and adult freedom. Crafted locally in Las Vegas by Tenaya Creek Brewery, #WHHSH Beer is an easy drinking, pale ale with hints of citrus and pine creating a cool, clean finish. The exclusive beer will only be available at select Las Vegas sponsored events. #WHHSH Beer is the first of Las Vegas’ limited edition #WHHSH products to be introduced.

After performing one of Friday’s most sought after sets at the festival, headliner G-Eazy met up with Amber Rose where the two were seen laughing and chatting as they sipped #WHHSH cocktails together. Kellan Lutz arrived shortly after and mingled throughout the party, stopping to play ping-pong as revelers cheered him on. Additional celebrities, including Ed Westwick, Icona Pop, Bob Moses, J Sutta and more joined influencers and guests alike to party in true Las Vegas style.

As guests and celebrities made their way through the party, they chose their signature photo opp: a picture in front of the #WHHSH beer step-and-repeat adorned with dozens of the sleek black and white cans, a stacked “What Happens Here, Stays Here” logo and simply #WHHSH.

Attendees also experienced Only-in-Vegas moments at the Vegas VR bar, where they were instantly transported to the hottest Las Vegas attractions. Once they came back to reality, partygoers were treated to exquisite hairstyle creations by Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa & Casino and Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa at their pop-up braid bar complemented by glitter and fresh floral.

Partygoers sipped on #WHHSH Beer and carefully crafted ARIA Resort & Casino beer-infused cocktails as they watched Zappos’ resident artist Miguel create an oversized floral masterpiece, and mingled with other revelers in the packed party.

Right as the party was really revving up, excitement levels hit an all-time high as Icona Pop went on-stage for an exclusive set, singing hits such as “I Love It.” After a #WHHSH toast with all partygoers, the duo jumped in the pool, splashed in the water and posed with guests.

As Icona Pop warmed up in the sun and sipped on their #WHHSH beers, Palms Casino Resort’s “Ditch Fridays” DJ, Mark Stylz, kept the party going for the rest of the day with a strong set that can only come from Las Vegas.

Sunday, April 17

DNCE, Joe Jonas’ band, was seen striking up conversations with fans and friends as they made their way to the #WHHSH stage to perform an energetic set. They were soon joined by b of “The Vampire Diaries,” who met them onstage. Graham then made her way through the party, as she greeted friends and fans and danced to the music for the rest of the day.

“Downton Abbey’s” Joanne Froggatt was also spotted playing oversized beer pong and Strangers We Know, fresh from their performance at the festival the day before, made their way through the party striking poses and sipping #WHHSH beer along the way. Olympic gymnast Josh Dixon and travel influencer Brian Kelly, The Points Guy, were also seen experiencing Vegas VR.

All guests were treated like VIPs with massages and hand treatments provided by the Spa at The Linq Hotel & Casino. After entering a state of relaxation, partygoers enjoyed an array of culinary creations by SkinnyFATS, a local Las Vegas eatery.

Throughout the day, guests enjoyed more curated experiences from Zappos; Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa & Casino; Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa; and Mark Stylz from Palms Casino Resort and one-of-a-kind drawings by Napkin Killa.

WHAT: Blue Man Group unveils its one-of-a-kind, foot-tapping (literally) installation during Zappos’ annual Bald and Blue fundraiser at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14. Entitled “ShoeZaphone,” the sneaker-happy fixture encourages passersby to experiment and show their “sole” by creating a custom video display and soundtrack. The playful attraction will be permanently located in the lobby of Zappos’ downtown campus and symbolizes the developing partnership between Blue Man Group and the retailer.

During the event, a Zappos representative will give a quick remark on the on-going partnership between the companies and present the never-before-seen “ShoeZaphone.” In addition, the three Blue Men will be on hand to partake in the unveiling with their signature antics and crowd interaction.

El Cortez Hotel & Casino is teaming with other downtown businesses and organizations for “Downtown Cares Las Vegas,” a day of downtown volunteerism, on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

Downtown Cares Las Vegas is being organized by Moonridge Group,  and volunteering efforts will be led by El Cortez along with a group of sponsors, including Zappos, the City of Las Vegas, the City of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, the City of Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Whole Foods, 8 News Now, BLVDS and other businesses and arts organizations. All volunteers will come together to improve the Robert Gordon Senior Recreation Center at 336 N. 10th Street, Las Vegas, NV. 

Event registration is from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by the day of volunteering at the recreation center. Volunteers can offer their services for a full- or half-day shift. 

The 261 low-income seniors who use the Robert Gordon Recreation Center on a daily basis have created a “Wish List” that the volunteers will be working to fulfill throughout the day.  Remodeling and facility improvement initiatives, such as painting, collecting non-perishable foods, planting and gardening, improving the recreation areas, beautifying the patio area and upgrading the kitchen, will go a long way in making the recreation center more functional and enjoyable for the seniors.
