Three Square Food Bank, Walmart and Feeding America Launch “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” Campaign to Combat Hunger in Southern Nevada

Throughout April, online acts of support, purchases of participating products and donations at Walmart registers can help Feeding America secure at least 200 million meals on behalf of local member food banks

She or he may be a distant relative or your next door neighbor, but chances are you know one of the estimated more than 279,000 people who struggle with food insecurity in Southern Nevada. From April 2 through April 30, Las Vegas residents can make a real difference in the lives of local individuals and families.

Walmart, Feeding America and Three Square kicked off the fifth annual nationwide “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign online and in stores today. Walmart and Feeding America are doubling their meal goal to help secure at least 200 million meals, increasing supplier participation to 14, and introducing the Walmart Credit Card as a new way for customers to get involved in the campaign. In another first, Walmart is uniting with social networking site, Nextdoor, to drive conversations in local communities across the nation on ways they can combat hunger.

“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with Walmart and their commitment to supporting Three Square in the fight against hunger in Southern Nevada,” said Three Square Food Bank President and CEO Brian Burton. “This campaign will help increase awareness about the issue of hunger in our community, allowing us to secure more local funds and ultimately provide more food to people in need in Southern Nevada. We hope people across the valley will take action and participate in the campaign.”

“In communities big and small across the country, there are families struggling with hunger,” said Kathleen McLaughlin, President of the Walmart Foundation and Chief Sustainability Officer for Walmart. “By working together during this campaign with our suppliers, customers and friends at Feeding America, we can help secure 200 million meals that will help those who need it most.”
Beginning today through April 30, Walmart is offering four ways that customers can get involved and fight hunger online, in-store and through social sharing to help secure meals for local food banks, including Three Square. Visit Walmart.com/fighthunger for further details.

Three Square Food Bank Announces Dates for Las Vegas Restaurant ‘Week,’ June 18-29

“Save the date” for annual culinary event and join the fight against hunger

Three Square Food Bank announced today the return of Las Vegas Restaurant Week taking place June 18-29. Now in its 12th installment, this one-of-a-kind event gives restaurants throughout Southern Nevada the unique opportunity to give back through the culinary arts.

Three Square encourages restaurant owners and chefs to “save the date” and register for the 12-day culinary event. Registrations will begin April 9. Interested restaurants should contact Three Square’s Kari Goldberg at 702.644.3663 ext. 332, or kgoldberg@threesquare.org.

During Las Vegas Restaurant Week, participating restaurants across Southern Nevada develop prix-fixe menus – some offering breakfast, lunch and/or dinner – at price points ranging from $20 to $80. A fixed portion of the meal’s cost will directly support Three Square’s mission of pursuing a hunger-free community.

“This 12-day event showcases the strength of our community and what can be accomplished when different industries come together,” said Brian Burton, president and CEO of Three Square Food Bank. “Las Vegas Restaurant Week allows us to combine the excellence of our world-renowned restaurant community with the goodness of those who live in and visit Southern Nevada,” Burton continued. “This celebration of dining out for a cause addresses the issue of hunger head on, while affecting positive change.”

Approximately two weeks before Las Vegas Restaurant Week begins, the mobile-friendly website helpoutdineoutlv.org will launch, providing a complete list of participating restaurants, prix-fixe menus, as well as the option to make reservations.

In 2017, Las Vegas Restaurant Week welcomed participation from 162 restaurants, raising more than $200,000. The record-breaking amount helped feed food insecure people in the community. In 2018, the highly anticipated culinary experience returns June 18 and concludes on June 29.

One hundred percent of the proceeds collected from participating restaurants will benefit Three Square in its efforts to provide meals to the more than 279,000 food-insecure residents in Southern Nevada.

CenturyLink Employees And Communities To Participate In National Food Drive In Partnership With Three Square Food Bank

CenturyLink employees, communities to participate in national food drive
CenturyLink Foundation to support efforts with up to $1 million match

CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) will hold its annual CenturyLink Backpack Buddies Food Drive June 1-12 in hundreds of company locations across the country. As part of this effort, CenturyLink is inviting local community members to join employees in supporting Three Square.

CenturyLink started its annual Backpack Buddies Food Drive in 2009. The goal of the drive is to generate food and monetary donations for local food banks and help raise awareness of the need for backpack programs in the company’s markets. Over the past six years, the drive, along with the match from the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation, has contributed more than 28 million pounds of food and equivalent financial donations to local food banks across the country. Community members who want to help support the drive can bring food donations to Three Square’s warehouse and volunteer room. More information on Three Square’s needs and a list of acceptable donations can be found here: bit.ly/ThreeSquareWishList

The CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation has pledged to match donations made through this drive at $1 per pound of food up to 1 million pounds nationwide. By leveraging this match, donors can increase the impact of their gift and help provide more meals to those in need in their community. In 2014, the CenturyLink Food Drive resulted in the equivalent of 11.2 million pounds of food being donated to more than 200 food banks across the country.

“We’re proud to partner with Three Square to support their backpack program,” said Jeremy Ferkin, CenturyLink’s vice president of network operations for Utah and Nevada. “Backpack programs are crucial to children who rely on school breakfasts and lunches to meet their nutritional needs each day. We hope this drive will help bridge the gap those children experience during weekends and school breaks. We invite the public to become a CenturyLink Backpack Buddy by joining us in supporting this effort.”

“Gifts like this are critical to our mission of providing wholesome food to hungry people in our area,” says Brian Burton, President and CEO of Three Square. “We are very thankful for community partners like CenturyLink who generously give back because they make a huge impact in the community; what would have been three meals from a $1 donation, will become six meals.”

According to 2014 statistics provided by Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, the Feeding America network provides emergency food assistance to an estimated 46.5 million people annually including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.
