THE VENETIAN AND THE PALAZZO LAS VEGAS
CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF THE DOG WITH ART INSTALLATION AND LION DANCE
Chinese New Year celebrations include a lion dance to kick off Lunar New Year, performances by Hacken Lee alongside special guests, and more

The Venetian® and The Palazzo® Las Vegas will celebrate Chinese New Year with extravagant décor, entertainment, retail, and food and beverage offerings beginning Jan. 12, with special festivities scheduled for Feb. 16.

ON JAN. 12 THE WATERFALL ATRIUM AND GARDENS TRANSFORM FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR

To commemorate the Year of the Dog, the eleventh position in the Chinese zodiac, The Venetian and The Palazzo’s floral and horticulture team worked with a team of artisans and consulted a feng shui master to create an installation that features a Chinese Shar-Pei, named Vincenzo Li that sits 16 feet tall.

“Throughout the last 10 months, 86 artisans worked to create this installation,” said Dana Beatty, executive director of floral and horticulture at The Venetian and The Palazzo. “The Chinese New Year holiday is an important one for our guests, and we aim to create something that is not only memorable, but culturally accurate.”

The Shar-Pei existed in China since ancient times and was chosen as the featured canine for the display because it symbolizes good fortune and protection. The feature Shar-Pei was hand-sculpted and covered in artificial fur to achieve his robust appearance. There are nine additional Shar-Peis positioned throughout the resort, as well as a three-foot hare, the secret friend of the dog.

EYE CEREMONY AND LION DANCE CELEBRATION ON FEB. 16

A highlight of Chinese New Year celebrations, the lion dance, is said to bring good luck and prosperity, with which The Venetian and The Palazzo will officially kick off Lunar New Year at 3:00 p.m. on Feb. 16. The ceremonial lion dance will begin with an eye ceremony at The Venetian porte cochere. The dance will wind its way through The Venetian lobby and casino before stopping in The Palazzo Waterfall Atrium, then continuing through The Palazzo casino, lobby, and ending at The Palazzo porte cochere. This exciting event features firecrackers, and a parade of dancers and drummers in authentic clothing.

Hong Kong Cafe is Now Open at The Palazzo Las Vegas

HONG KONG CAFÉ IS NOW OPEN AT THE PALAZZO LAS VEGAS

The highly anticipated Hong Kong Café is now open and serving lunch, dinner and late night dishes at The Palazzo® Las Vegas. Located on the casino floor, the all-new restaurant showcases the energy of one of the world’s most vibrant cities and is brought to life with a dynamic fusion of Asian cuisine and Western fare, all in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

“Our menu takes our guests on a dining journey of Hong Kong café-style cuisine and is a new concept for Las Vegas,” says Executive Chef Simon To. “The dining experience was designed to provide guests a sense of what it is like to dine in one of Hong Kong’s famous diners, right here on the Las Vegas Strip.”

Curating a truly distinct Asian style menu with a western twist, signature dishes include rice roll with XO sauce ($8.95); Macau-style roasted pork belly ($17.95); fried fish ball with curry ($8.95); Chinese sausage and preserved pork belly over steamed white rice ($22.95); pan-seared scallop with Szechuan pepper sauce ($29.95); and Vietnamese King Seafood noodle soup ($18.95); to name a few. In addition to the Hong Kong-style menu, the restaurant also features regional Chinese cuisine, drawing from Cantonese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Szechuan and other Asian cooking styles.

To accompany the eclectic mix of Asian cuisine, the restaurant features an extensive selection of wine and beer, as well as signature sake cocktails. Highlights include Fuzzy Peach (Ty-Ku Sake Silver, Ciroc Peach, peach puree, orange juice, lemongrass syrup); Coconut Moonlight (Ty-Ku Sake Coconut, Malibu Rum, Moonstone Coconut Lemongrass Sake, lemongrass syrup, lemon, pineapple and orange juice); Ty-KuLychee Martini (Ty-Ku Sake Silver, Grey Goose, lychee syrup, lime juice); and the HK Cooler (Ty-Ku Sake Cucumber, Tanqueray Ten, Moonstone Pear Sake, lemongrass syrup, fresh lemon juice), all priced at $12.

The intimate space is 4,200 square-feet with seating for 155 guests. The non-traditional aesthetic of Hong Kong Café strays away from customary colors associated with Asian dining. Instead, the restaurant was designed to create a visually active Hong Kong-style café that celebrates joyful colors with references to nature throughout the space. As guests walk in they are greeted by an impressive brass display in the form of a bird cage, along with bamboo flooring that is fashioned to resemble chopsticks. The space is adorned with colorful banquettes that are stitched together to create a “kimono” effect and the interior is contained with bold, simple wood panels that evoke a sense of tranquility. The fresh and abstract design is inviting and visually engaging for guests to enjoy while dining.

Chef To, who is also executive chef at the resort’s exclusive Paiza Club, has 35 years of experience cooking Asian cuisine. Originally from Hong Kong, he specializes in Cantonese and Szechuan styles and is considered a dim sum master. Chef To has served his signature dishes all over the world, including France, Hong Kong and Canada and was awarded the coveted Bleu Ribbon Award from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts.

Hong Kong Café is open daily, Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 a.m. For reservations or additional information, please call (702) 607-2220 or visit www.palazzo.com.
