On Saturday, December 7, Opportunity Village hosted the 15TH annual Las Vegas Great Santa Run in Downtown Las Vegas and were able to gather 6,644 Santa participants from across the world, including 6 countries and 43 states.

 

All proceeds from the Las Vegas Great Santa Run will go towards the programs and services for adults with disabilities at Opportunity Village.

 

The race, presented by Circle K, kicked off at the Fremont Street Experience and featured numerous special guests, including 5K Grand Marshal A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, 1-mile Marshals The Chippendales, Santa Claus, Mayor Carolyn Goodman, former Mayor Oscar Goodman, and the organization’s all-Elvis dance troupe – The OV Elvi.

 

“For 15 years, we’ve been honored to host the Great Santa Run in wonderful Downtown Las Vegas in support of adults with disabilities,” said Adam K. Joseph, Vice President of Philanthropy at Opportunity Village. “This truly could not be done without the Southern Nevada community. From our vendors to volunteers to long-time partners, we’re absolutely thrilled with the support and outcome.”

 

Additional pre-race entertainment was provided by Gabriella Versace of SEXXY: The Show, Zumba by Kat and Jjohn, a Fit4Mom workout to the late George Dare’s “Run Santa Run”, DJ Mikey P, DJ Jesse Estrada, and mascots from the Vegas Golden Nights, Las Vegas Aces and Las Vegas Aviators. The starting line stage and after-party entertainment stage were hosted by Mark Shunock of Monday’s Dark and featured an impressive line-up of entertainment including Empire Records, WOW! The Vegas Spectacular, Celestia, Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel in Concert, and Kung Pow (DJ).

 

All Las Vegas Great Santa Run participants received a five-piece Santa suit with their registration and a commemorative medal upon completion. Another highlight of the event was Mena Hawkins, an inspirational young woman with cerebral palsy, not only crossing the finish line, but also raising over $7,200 for Opportunity Village in her fundraising efforts.

This Sunday, Aug. 11, Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil will take over the court with an electrifying halftime performance during the Las Vegas Aces game at Mandalay Bay Events Center. As the Aces take on the Connecticut Sun, 13 members of the Michael Jackson ONE cast will dazzle the audience with a spectacular act showcasing fan-favorite hits “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and “Beat It.”

 

To celebrate the King of Pop’s upcoming birthday, those in attendance will have the opportunity to win tickets to performances of Michael Jackson ONE on Aug. 29.

This Sunday, May 26, Las Vegas’ premier entertainment group, Cirque du Soleil will celebrate the Las Vegas Aces season opener at Mandalay Bay Events Center with a specially adapted performance by “O” cast members. Before tip-off, Brianna Rossi, singer in Mystére by Cirque du Soleil, will perform the national anthem. During halftime, “O” artists will take over the court as they perform the contortion act for Las Vegas Aces fans and kick off the highly anticipated season.

Lively Italian restaurant, Slice of Vegas, located at The Shoppes at Mandalay Bay, is thrilled to host a drawing to give away three signed Las Vegas Aces’ basketballs to three lucky fans on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m., following the final home game of the inaugural season. The event will be hosted by Brett Raymer of Animal Planet’s hit TV show “Tanked.”

 

“As a Las Vegas Aces’ fan myself, I’m excited to be part of this event at Slice of Vegas,” said Brett Raymer. “I can’t wait to see who the lucky fans are that get to take home these unique memorabilia signed by players from the very first team.”

 

Each basketball has been signed by the Las Vegas Aces’ star players and includes first overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft A’ja Wilson, forward Ji-Su Park, small forward Nia Coffey, forward Dearica Hamby, and guard Lindsay Allen. The Las Vegas Aces are part of the Western Conference for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WMBA). The team made their home in Las Vegas this past year and have been embraced by the city. With a shared home at Mandalay Bay, Slice of Vegas has been home to fans before and after Las Vegas Aces’ games since the season began.

MGM Resorts NBA Summer League, tipping off this weekend at Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion, will feature all 30 NBA teams for the first time. During this historic time in basketball, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and MGM Grand Hotel & Casino will host a variety of events for fans July 6 – 17, featuring fun-filled activations from iconic brands including Pepsi and Jack Daniel’s, in addition to daily appearances by current and former NBA players.
