With help from the show hosts hip-hop artist and actor Ludacris and international music sensation Ciara, dick clark productions and ABC announced the finalists for the “2016 Billboard Music Awards,” honoring the year’s most successful artists in 43 categories.  The “2016 Billboard Music Awards” will broadcast LIVE from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. This year’s show will showcase big performances, unexpected collaborations and much-discussed pop culture moments.  The “2016 Billboard Music Awards” is produced by dick clark productions. Allen Shapiro, Mike Mahan, Mark Bracco, Barry Adelman and Robert Deaton are Executive Producers.

Hosts Ludacris and Ciara appeared in the 8:00 a.m. ET hour of ABC’s “Good Morning America” today, to announce the finalists in six categories, including: Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Female Artist, Top New Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Hot 100 Song. Immediately following the broadcast, five additional categories were exclusively announced live via Billboard Music Award’s Facebook and Periscope, followed by a live stream on ABC News of the remaining categories.

The Weeknd leads the finalist pack with nods in 16 categories including Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Hot 100 Song. Justin Bieber follows as a finalist in 11 categories including Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist. Fetty Wap and Drake are tied with nods in 10 categories each, including Top Male Artist contenders for both musicians. Drake will compete against himself for Top Rap Album for “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” and his collaboration with Future on “What A Time To Be Alive.” Leading the ladies, Adele and Taylor Swift are tied with eight nods each including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album, all of which Swift won last year. Other returning winners from 2015, who are also finalists this year, include One Direction, Romeo Santos, Coldplay, DJ Snake and Carrie Underwood.

This year, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth are finalists in six categories respectively. They received five each for their hit single “See You Again,” while Wiz Khalifa is also up for Top Rap Artist and Charlie is up for Top New Artist. The late David Bowie is honored posthumously as a finalist for Top Rock Album for “Blackstar.”

2016 TOP FINALIST CHART FACTS:
  • Adele is a finalist in eight categories and is a contender to earn the most BBMA wins of any artist in history, a record currently held by Taylor Swift, with 20 wins. Adele has previously won 13 BBMAs. Swift herself is a finalist in eight 2016 BBMA categories.

  • Justin Bieber is a finalist in 11 categories and could surpass Garth Brooks, who currently is the highest winning male with 19 wins, if he takes home six or more BBMA trophies. If Bieber takes home more than eight trophies, he has the chance of beating Taylor Swift’s current all-time leading record of 20, pending other results.

  • Drake is a finalist in 10 categories. If he wins, he will take home his first BBMA trophy. He has previously been a finalist in 21 categories.

  • First time finalist Fetty Wap is a contender in 10 categories, including Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artists, Top Rap Artist, Top Streaming Song (Audio) and Top Rap Song.

  • Hillsong UNITED is a finalist in three categories including Top Christian Artist and Top Christian Album.

  • Sam Hunt is a finalist in three categories – the most of any country artist this year — including Top Country Artist and Top Country Album. If he wins, he will take home his first BBMA trophy.
  • First time finalist Silentó is a contender for Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Song, Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top Streaming Song (Video).
  • This year could prove to be historic, in that Taylor Swift could beat her own all-time record for the most BBMA wins (she has 20), while Justin Bieber and Adele are also vying to surpass Swift’s record. Swift is a finalist in eight categories this year, and thus could extend her own record, or can be caught or surpassed by Bieber (an 11 times finalist this year with 13 prior BBMA trophies) or Adele (a finalist in 8 categories this year and also with 13 all-time BBMAs to her name).
  • The Weeknd is a first-time Billboard Music Award finalist and leads all artists with nods in 16 categories (including multiple songs competing in the Top Hot 100 Song and Top R&B Song categories). If he wins, he will take home his first Billboard Music Award trophy. With a near sweep of his 16 categories, The Weeknd could set the record for taking home the most trophies in one night. That single-night mark is held by Adele with 12 trophies in 2012.
  • Thanks to their smash collaboration “See You Again,” Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa are finalists in six categories each, including Top New Artist for Puth, a category won by Khalifa in 2012.
Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of tracking dates March 23, 2015 through March 17, 2016 and Billboard chart dates April 11, 2015 through April 2, 2016.  Since 1940, the Billboard charts have been the go-to guide for ranking the popularity of songs and albums, and are the ultimate measure of a musician’s success.ABC’s three-hour telecast of the “2015 Billboard Music Awards” scored an across-the-board victory, ranking No. 1 in its 8:00-11:00 p.m. time slot in Total Viewers, all key Adults (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54) and Teens 12-17.  Delivering its third-straight year of Total Viewer growth (+5% – 11.2 million vs. 10.7 million) and gaining Adults 18-49 (+9% – 3.8/12 vs. 3.5/10), the “Billboard Music Awards” generated its most watched telecast in 14 years and earned a 12-year high in young adults – since 2001 and 2003, respectively. In addition, the annual show was up for the third year with Teens 12-17 (+3%) to post its highest rating since 2003.

2016 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARD FINALIST STATISTICS

  • 2016 TOP FINALIST CHART FACTS
  • RECORD HOLDERS BY CATEGORY
  • TOP BBMA WINNERS OF ALL TIME (1990 – 2015)

2016 TOP FINALIST CHART FACTS:

  • Adele, a 13-time Billboard Music Award winner, stormed Billboard‘s charts in late 2015 with her blockbuster third studio album, 25, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 3.38 million copies in its first week in the U.S., the largest sales week for an album since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991. The album has already sold more than 8 million copies in America, and is the largest-selling release since Adele’s own previous set, 21. The new album’s lead single, “Hello,” spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the first song to sell more than 1 million downloads in a week.

  • Despite his monster success since his 2009 career launch, 13-time Billboard Music Award winner Justin Bieber soared even higher with the release of his album Purpose in 2015. His sixth No. 1 set on the Billboard 200 generated his first three Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles: “What Do You Mean?” (which debuted on top), “Sorry” and “Love Yourself.” Like The Weeknd, Bieber replaced himself atop the Hot 100 with the latter two songs. Bieber also broke a vaunted Hot 100 record, placing 17 songs on the Dec. 5, 2015 chart, passing the Beatles and Drake for the most titles on the list by an artist in one week.

  • Drake not only earned his fifth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with What a Time to Be Alive (with Future), but also claimed two chart-toppers in less than a year’s time, as it arrived nearly eight months after his previous No. 1, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. Drake has placed more than 100 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 (one of only four acts to reach that milestone) and scored 15 No. 1s on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, including “Hotline Bling,” “Summer Sixteen,” “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and “The Motto.”

  • Fetty Wap blasted onto Billboard‘s charts in 2015 with three consecutive career-opening top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 (“Trap Queen,” “My Way” and “679”), making him just the third hip-hop act to earn that triple honor since 1990 (joining Chingy and M.C. Hammer). Fetty Wap’s self-titled debut album bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent its first six months lodged in the list’s top 40.

  • Charlie Puth made his Billboard Hot 100 bow in 2015 as the featured vocalist on Wiz Khalifa’s 12-week No. 1 smash “See You Again.” He followed with two more top 25 hits: “Marvin Gaye,” ft. Meghan Trainor, and “One Call Away,” both from his top 10 Billboard 200 debut album, Nine Track Mind.

  • The winner of a record 20 Billboard Music Awards, Taylor Swift has debuted her last four studio albums at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with the last three all selling in excess of 1 million copies each in their first weeks. Combined, they have spent 35 weeks at No. 1. The country-turned-pop superstar has charted more than 60 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, including 19 top 10s, with four of those reaching No. 1.

  • WALK THE MOON rocketed to a record with its crossover smash “Shut Up and Dance,” leading the Hot Rock Songs chart for 27 weeks. It also reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in a more-than year-long stay on the chart.

  • When Wiz Khalifa‘s Furious 7 soundtrack hit, “See You Again,” ft. Charlie Puth, spent its 12th (and final) week atop the Billboard Hot 100, it tied a historic mark, matching the most weeks a rap song has ever led the list. The song became the rapper’s second leader, while he’s run up a resume of 30 chart entries since his 2011 arrival with the No. 1 “Black and Yellow.”

GRAMMY AWARD WINNER SEAL CAST AS PONTIUS PILATE IN
“THE PASSION”

Inspirational Television Event Airs LIVE From New Orleans on
Palm Sunday, March 20, on FOX

Grammy Award-winning recording artist and singer/songwriter Seal has been cast in the role of Pontius Pilate in THE PASSION, a two-hour epic musical event airing LIVE from New Orleans on Palm Sunday, March 20 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. Seal joins previously announced host and narrator Tyler Perry, and cast members Jencarlos Canela (Jesus Christ), Chris Daughtry (Judas), Prince Royce (the disciple Peter) and Trisha Yearwood (Mary, the mother of Jesus).

THE PASSION, written by Peter Barsocchini (“High School Musical”), tells the 2000-year-old story of the last hours of Jesus Christ’s life on earth through passages from the Bible and a variety of contemporary popular music, sung by the cast, and arranged specifically for this event by executive producer and hit music producer Adam Anders (“Glee,” “Rock of Ages”). Set in modern day, the event will follow the dramatic and inspirational story of Jesus of Nazareth, as he presides over the Last Supper, and then is betrayed by Judas, put on trial by Pontius Pilate, convicted, crucified and resurrected.

The event will unfold live at some of New Orleans’ most iconic locations, while featuring a procession of a thousand people carrying a 20-foot, illuminated cross from outside the Mercedes Benz Superdome to the live stage at Woldenberg Park on the banks of the Mississippi River.

Since the beginning of his career, London-born multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Seal has been focused on a single creative pursuit: expressing the full experience of love through song. An established superstar, with worldwide album sales exceeding 30 million of his eight studio albums, Seal’s inimitable voice was first heard on Adamski’s 1991 club smash, “Killer,” followed by his Top 10 hit, “Crazy.” On the heels of his stunning debut album, he went on to win the prestigious BRIT Award for “Best British Male” in 1992, while hits like “Kiss From a Rose,” memorably included on the “Batman Forever” soundtrack, earned him multiple Grammy Awards and global esteem. In November, Seal released his ninth album, “7,” which reunites him with his longtime collaborator, producer Trevor Horn.

THE PASSION is produced by dick clark productions, Eye2Eye Media and Anders Media. Allen Shapiro (CEO, dick clark productions), Mike Mahan (President, dick clark productions), Mark Bracco (Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, dick clark productions), Jacco Doornbos (CEO and Creative Director of Eye2Eye Media), Adam Anders (CEO, Anders Media Inc.) and David Grifhorst (“The Passion: Netherlands”) will serve as executive producers. ‘73RD ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS’

Provocative Globes Host Brings His Sharp Wit Back to the Beverly Hilton
as NBC Kicks Off Awards Season With Jan. 10 Telecast

Returning to the same stage where he brought his acerbic sense of humor to Hollywood, Ricky Gervais has been named host of the “73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards®,” set for Jan. 10, 2016 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The three-hour ceremony serves as the official kick-off to awards season and will be aired live coast to coast from 8-11 p.m. ET on NBC.

“We’re excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable awards show of the season in his own inimitable way,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt. ”Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor — and send up — the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your seats belts.”

“Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television,” said Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association®. “His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”

“What will he say? What will he do? We can’t wait to find out, and we are so happy that he’s back!,” said Barry Adelman, EVP, Television for dick clark productions and executive producer of the “73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards.”

Gervais hosted the Globes for three consecutive years (2010-12) when the network registered ratings gains from the previous two telecasts. Over that 2010-12 span, the Golden Globes averaged a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demo and 17 million viewers overall, which was a 6% increase from the 2009 telecast in the demo and 14% or 2.1 million persons in total viewers (17.0 million vs. 14.9 million).

A winner of seven BAFTA Awards, three Golden Globes and two Emmys, Gervais remains one of the most talented and respected comedian-actors working today. He created and currently stars in the Netflix series “Derek,” for which he has been Emmy nominated for two consecutive years.

Gervais first introduced himself to global audiences with his 2001 British TV hit “The Office,” in which he starred as his tragic creation, David Brent. “The Office” would soon become a wildly successful global format, including an Emmy-winning nine-season run on NBC. Gervais is about to continue “The Office” saga by directing his fourth Hollywood movie, “David Brent: Life on the Road. “

Following “The Office,” Gervais starred and created a string of HBO projects: “Extras,” “Life’s Too Short” and “The Ricky Gervais Show,” which was based on his record-breaking podcast that has been downloaded more than 500 million times. He has also guest-starred on many popular TV series, including “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Louie,” “Sesame Street,” “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy.”

On the film side, Gervais has co-starred in several features, including the “Night at the Museum” franchise, “Muppets Most Wanted,” “Ghost Town” and “The Invention of Lying,” and is currently putting final touches to “Special Correspondents,” which he wrote and co-directed.

As a stand-up comedian, Gervais has sold over 2 million tickets in arenas around the world. He is also the author of the popular children’s book series “Flanimals.”

Nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced Thursday, Dec. 10. Winners in 25 categories — 14 in film and 11 in television — are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Produced by dick clark productions in association with the HFPA, the Golden Globe Awards are viewed in more than 210 countries worldwide and are one of the few awards ceremonies to include both motion picture and television achievements.

Lorenzo Soria is President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Allen Shapiro, CEO of dick clark productions, Mike Mahan, President of dick clark productions and Barry Adelman, Executive VP of Television at dick clark productions, will serve as executive producers.

MUSIC SUPERSTAR TAYLOR SWIFT TO HEADLINE AMERICA’S BIGGEST CELEBRATION OF THE YEAR

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015″ Begins Live at 8pm ET/PT on ABC Live from New York’s Times Square

Before the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, global music sensation Taylor Swift will culminate another record-breaking year with a performance of her hit songs for over 1 million fans in Times Square live on ABC’s telecast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015.” Swift will join a stellar line-up of the year’s top music artists in celebrating the New Year during the biggest live music celebration in show history with over 38 performances and 5½ hours of music. “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015” will air on Wednesday, December 31 beginning at 8:00 pm ET/PT on ABC Television Network.

The bi-coastal celebration will include hours of special performances and reports on New Year’s celebrations from around the globe, and Ryan Seacrest will lead the traditional countdown to midnight from Times Square in New York City as he has for the last 9 years.

“Each year New Year’s Rockin’ Eve continues its iconic legacy by delivering incredible performances from the year’s hottest artists, and this year is no exception. We already have secured an unprecedented number of music acts, culminating with a Times Square performance by Taylor, the biggest superstar in music today,” said host and executive producer Ryan Seacrest.

Taylor Swift, who writes all of her own songs, is a global superstar, seven-time GRAMMY winner and the youngest winner in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 in the U.S. with three consecutive studio albums. Taylor has an album on Rolling Stone’s prestigious The 50 Greatest Albums of All Time (by women) list, Time magazine has named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world, and she is Billboard’s youngest-ever Woman of the Year and the only artist to have been awarded this honor twice. Taylor has career record sales in excess of 30 million albums and almost 80 million song downloads worldwide, and has had singles top both the pop and country radio charts around the globe. Taylor’s album RED, released almost two years ago on Big Machine Records, has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide to date, including more than 1.2 million copies in the U.S. in its first week, scoring the highest first-week sales debut of any album in over a decade. Taylor is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album (2010’s Speak Now and 2012’s RED) hit the 1 million plus first-week sales figure. “Shake It Off” is the first single off her critically-acclaimed fifth studio album 1989 (Big Machine Records). The single has topped Billboard’s Pop, HotAC and Hot 100 charts and has earned double Platinum-status by the RIAA for exceeding sales of two million downloads in the U.S., and has peaked at No. 1 in 64 countries on iTunes.

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015” is produced by dick clark productions with Ryan Seacrest, Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan serving as executive producers and Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco as co-executive producers. Larry Klein is producer.
