GRAMMY AWARD WINNER SEAL CAST AS PONTIUS PILATE IN
“THE PASSION”

Inspirational Television Event Airs LIVE From New Orleans on
Palm Sunday, March 20, on FOX

Grammy Award-winning recording artist and singer/songwriter Seal has been cast in the role of Pontius Pilate in THE PASSION, a two-hour epic musical event airing LIVE from New Orleans on Palm Sunday, March 20 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. Seal joins previously announced host and narrator Tyler Perry, and cast members Jencarlos Canela (Jesus Christ), Chris Daughtry (Judas), Prince Royce (the disciple Peter) and Trisha Yearwood (Mary, the mother of Jesus).

THE PASSION, written by Peter Barsocchini (“High School Musical”), tells the 2000-year-old story of the last hours of Jesus Christ’s life on earth through passages from the Bible and a variety of contemporary popular music, sung by the cast, and arranged specifically for this event by executive producer and hit music producer Adam Anders (“Glee,” “Rock of Ages”). Set in modern day, the event will follow the dramatic and inspirational story of Jesus of Nazareth, as he presides over the Last Supper, and then is betrayed by Judas, put on trial by Pontius Pilate, convicted, crucified and resurrected.

The event will unfold live at some of New Orleans’ most iconic locations, while featuring a procession of a thousand people carrying a 20-foot, illuminated cross from outside the Mercedes Benz Superdome to the live stage at Woldenberg Park on the banks of the Mississippi River.

Since the beginning of his career, London-born multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Seal has been focused on a single creative pursuit: expressing the full experience of love through song. An established superstar, with worldwide album sales exceeding 30 million of his eight studio albums, Seal’s inimitable voice was first heard on Adamski’s 1991 club smash, “Killer,” followed by his Top 10 hit, “Crazy.” On the heels of his stunning debut album, he went on to win the prestigious BRIT Award for “Best British Male” in 1992, while hits like “Kiss From a Rose,” memorably included on the “Batman Forever” soundtrack, earned him multiple Grammy Awards and global esteem. In November, Seal released his ninth album, “7,” which reunites him with his longtime collaborator, producer Trevor Horn.

Official Proclamation Begins Carnival Season for New Orleans Mardi Gras

Rex, King of Carnival and the New Orleans Tourism Industry Issue Official Invitation to Mardi Gras

To alert the world that Mardi Gras and the carnival season is upon us, Rex, King of Carnival is issuing his proclamation via the New Orleans tourism industry to the world.

Carnival begins each year on “Twelfth Night,” so the city is delivering the proclamation, created by the Rex organization’s School of Design, to citizens of the planet, beckoning them to attend the 2014 Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

“It is a great honor to announce the city’s most famous event with Rex, King of Carnival,” said Mark Romig, President and CEO of New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation, NOTMC. “The Rex 2014 Royal proclamation continues a carnival tradition more than a century old.”

The Rex organization began creating its Royal Invitation in 1872 when a group of young New Orleans leaders decided to issue invitations and a proclamation, inviting all to come to the Crescent City to join in its unique Mardi Gras celebration. In the days before mass media, broadcast, and tourism industries, the beautiful art posters and brochures were distributed in railroad stations, plastered on train cars, posted in centers of commerce, and placed in public buildings around the nation in major U.S. cities.

“We are pleased to build on the tradition of the Rex organization in inviting the world to the ‘Grand Celebration’ of Mardi Gras,” said Stephen Perry, President and CEO of the NOCVB. “It is a great time for visitors to experience the cultures and traditions of New Orleans as the city comes alive with festivity for Carnival Season.”

The 2014 Royal Invitation incorporates artwork from 1886, inviting visitors to “gather, from far and near, to join in the many celebrations and processions which will shortly unfold under the joyful Carnival banner.”

Each year, both the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation and the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau issue an electronic version of the Invitation to the nation and to international destinations, as well as over 60,000 travel trade professionals and tour operators. Both tourism corporations will feature the Royal Invitation on their website homepage.

New Orleans Named America’s Top Halloween Destination by Travelocity

New Orleans Named America’s Top Halloween Destination by Travelocity

New Orleans also tops lists of Condé Nast Traveler, Saveur and USA Today readers choice awards

New Orleans has racked up more national honors, including being named the number one destination in America for celebrating Halloween by Travelocity. America’s most haunted city also received top honors for its culture, restaurants and dining from readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Saveur and USA Today.

·       This month, Travelocity’s travel experts named New Orleans as the Top National Halloween Destination. The travel outlet mentions New Orleans’ ghost tours, elaborate costume balls, Krewe of Boo and haunted hotels as reasons why New Orleans is the top destination in the world for Halloween.

·       Condé Nast Traveler placed New Orleans on its highly coveted Top 10 Cities in the United States Readers’ Choice Awards, receiving the highest marks for culture, atmosphere and restaurants. Condé Nast Traveler readers call New Orleans “a magical city” and say it has “the best food in the U.S., with live music around every corner.” Nearly 80,000 readers of Condé Nast Traveler took part in the survey for this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards, more than ever before, and results will be printed in their November 2013 issue.

·       Saveur magazine named New Orleans as the Reader’s Choice for Restaurants and Dining and gave the city Outstanding Mention for Cocktails and Drinks Culture in this year’s Culinary Travel Awards 2013. Also, the Sazerac Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel New Orleans made the Outstanding Hotel Bars list. A poll open to all Saveur and Saveur.com readers determined the honorees for Readers’ Choice and Outstanding Mention and results were announced this month.

·       Bourbon Street in the historic French Quarter has been named one of the “Iconic American Streets” by 10Best Readers’ Choice, a division of USA Today Travel.  Often a favorite of visitors, Bourbon Street’s jazz, nightlife, architecture and French Creole cuisine were highlighted by 10Best.

“Once again, New Orleans is setting standards within the tourism industry,” said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “We thank the readers of these prominent media outlets, who know what we know…that New Orleans is the best city in America to visit and live.”

“A trip to New Orleans is always an exciting and rewarding adventure,” said Mark Romig, President and CEO of New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. “We are honored to be on ‘Condé Nast Traveler’s Top Ten Cities’ list, and thank its readers for their confidence. Additionally, as a city where many famous cocktails have been created, we hope when you travel here you’ll check out the Sazerac Bar, listed in Saveur’s  restaurants and dining category in its ‘Readers’ Choice awards.”

“These awards are true reflections of how our chefs, mixologists and entire hospitality industry not only work hard every day to preserve the rich history and culture that New Orleans has been known and loved by visitors for centuries, but continue to evolve their masterpieces for the modern traveler, and keep our destination a place that visitors want to return often,” said Stephen Perry, New Orleans Convention and Visitor’s Bureau President and CEO.

As a popular destination for holidays such as Halloween, Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and for special events such as Voodoo Music + Art Experience and Bayou Classic, New Orleans looks forward to welcoming visitors in the upcoming months. Promotions such as Christmas New Orleans Style invite visitors to experience the holidays in this historic and culturally rich city with hotel deals, reveillon dinners and holiday events.

In addition, according to the New Orleans CVB, convention business in the fall of 2013 is up nearly 60 percent compared to the same time last year. Hosting major medical conventions such as American Dental Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Hematology further boosts visitor numbers for 2013.

The New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau is a nationally accredited, 1,100-member destination marketing organization and the largest and most successful private economic development corporation in Louisiana. The CVB and its members influence thousands of decision-makers and millions of visitors to choose New Orleans through direct sales, marketing, public relations, branding and visitor services at our New Orleans headquarters and offices in Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Phoenix and four foreign countries. City of New Orleans and state of Louisiana are stars of Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’ season 11 as the popular food show locates in the Crescent City

The stars have aligned for New Orleans and Bravo’s Emmy and James Beard Award-winning series ‘Top Chef’ as it prepares to launch season 11 of the culinary competition series, and locals are being asked to tune in to help create a ratings bonanza. NOTMC is requesting that every business with a television and every person at home tune into the show on Bravo at 9:00 p.m. Central on October 2, and then throughout the season.

After bringing the show to New Orleans for its finale in 2008, New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC) was instrumental in bringing the show back for season 11 in 2013. The show premieres on Bravo on Wednesday, October 2.

“New Orleans has always been proud of the fact that the Top Chef finale episode  in 2008 garnered the best ratings the show had ever received,” said Mark Romig, President and CEO of NOTMC. “Now we have an opportunity to best ourselves and help make sure this entire season has the best ratings ever. We are urging everyone in the city to tune in all season.”

Fifty-three locations were filmed in New Orleans throughout the season, along with segments in nine Louisiana cities including Baton Rouge, Lafitte, Chalmette, Gretna, Harahan, Husser, Lacombe, Metairie, and Slidell.

Two local chefs, Michael Sichel of Galatoire’s and Justin Devillier of La Petite Grocery, were chosen to compete in a pre-premiere digital video series, “Padma’s Picks,” sponsored by Cigna and Available on BravoTV.com. “Padma’s Picks” gives New Orleans most talented chefs the opportunity to cook their way on to the actual show. Host and Judge Padma Lakshmi visits some of the Big Easy’s most celebrated establishments to find ten of the best and brightest chefs from New Orleans.

“I ask every citizen of our fine city to show your pride and love of New Orleans by gathering with family and friends and tuning in to Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’ at 9:00 p.m. on October 2,” said Mitch Landrieu, Mayor of New Orleans. “By doing so, we will help show the nation and the world that our first-class city supports this exciting program which showcases our uniquely wonderful way of life.”

Many famous national and international chefs will be spotted during the season including New Orleans locals Emeril Lagasse, John Besh, Leah Chase, John Folse, Susan Spicer, and others.

The show is a love story to New Orleans and gives nods and bouquets to many of the city’s neighborhoods, as well as its food, architecture, music, art, and nightlife.

‘Top Chef’ will feature returning host and judge Lakshmi, alongside lead judge, Tom Colicchio, and series judges Gail Simmons, Hugh Acheson, and New Orleans’ own Lagasse. So where will ‘Top Chef’ go from New Orleans for this season’s finale show? Stay tuned and don’t forget to watch!

Career Breaks … the new vacation?

Career Breaks … the new vacation?

Oct. 18 marks nationwide event designed to educate workforce on how to realize travel dreams

Ever dreamed of taking six months off to go to another country? Or to travel and see the world beyond Nevada? On Tuesday, Oct. 18, Meet, Plan, Go! (MPG) is hosting a local event in Las Vegas to teach the community the ins and outs of making a career-break a reality.

The event, which takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 3085 East Russell Road, features four panelists – two career breakers, a life coach and a financial advisor. The discussion will focus on everything from first-hand experiences to the intricacies of planning a career break, to determining if a career break is right for the individual. The goal? To let people know they can take a career break.

“Because we live in a society that doesn’t find value in taking time off, we wanted to create a community for people who do want to break out of the norm and travel for an extended period of time,” said MPG co-founder Sherry Ott.

Panelists for the event are:

– Abby Tegnelia, editor of Vegas Magazine/travel blogger, former ex-pat (expatriate)

– Diana Edelman, public relations professional/travel blogger, former long-term traveler

– Judy Irving, life coach

– Becky Buckley, certified financial planner

“When assembling the panel I wanted to make sure attendees could come away from the evening with a firm idea of what to expect from a career break, along with the tools necessary to do something of this magnitude,” said JoAnna Haugen, MPG’s localhost. “This event is designed to offer participants the opportunity to meet inspirational speakers and like-minded travelers; get motivation, contacts and resources necessary to plan the trip of a lifetime; and to start taking concrete steps forward to go on an adventure.”

In addition to offering tools and resources for planning a career break, they will also address the main concerns that prevent people from taking a career break, usually centered around financial, career-related, societal, and safety concerns.

Today, career breaks are becoming more and more of an option for workers. Last year, more than 2,400 people registered for the inaugural MPG event – 23 percent of which were in a trip planning stage pre-event. In a post-event survey, that number rose to 41 percent. “We want career breaks to be more acceptable in America,” says co-founder Michaela Potter. “In fact, we would love to see a career break on every resume. And with the support of our 17 inspiring hosts, their panelists, and our sponsors, including Intrepid Travel, we are making great inroads to achieving that goal.”

In addition to the Las Vegas event, this year’s MPG locations include: Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Washington DC and Toronto.
Registration for the nationwide event is currently open. For more information, or to register:http://meetplango.com/national-event/2011-las-vegas-event/.
