Supply Drive Raises More than $5,000 in Animal Care Supplies, $1,680 in Monetary Donations

Today (Sept. 9, 2016), magician Mat Franco presented The Animal Foundation with a donation of more than $5,000 in much-needed animal care supplies and $1,680 in monetary gifts to benefit the more than 30,000 animals that are cared for annually by the organization. The master of sleight-of-hand met with representatives from the state’s largest open-admission animal shelter for a tour of the eight-acre property and to make the sizable donation, which was the product of a month-long, community-driven supply drive held in partnership with Sunny 106.5 FM and Petco in celebration of a tremendous year of continued success and sold-out audiences at MAGIC REINVENTED NIGHTLY at The LINQ Hotel & Casino.

 

“Unlike humans, animals don’t have a voice to speak for themselves,” shared Franco. “So I was excited to find a way to help out our furry friends while thanking the community who’s been so supportive of our show in the process.”

 

Throughout the month of August, the young magician offered fans and community members the opportunity to receive a complimentary ticket voucher to experience MAGIC REINVENTED NIGHTLY in return for the donation of a minimum of $10 worth of items from The Animal Foundation’s wish list, which was comprised of blankets, collars, harnesses, leashes, dog and cat treats and toys, and more.

 

“We are grateful for Mat’s generosity in organizing this donation drive on our behalf, and the community for the overwhelming number of donations,” said Elysia Sheldon, events manager at The Animal Foundation. “These donations will not only help the animals at The Animal Foundation, but also pets in under-served areas of the community.”

Every Friday from 10 p.m. – 1 a.m. all musicians, comedians and magicians are welcome to take the mic and show off their talents. On Sunday, April 22, cuddly canines in need compete in The Animal Foundation’s 9thannual “Best in Show,” Las Vegas’ most famous dog show at Orleans Arena. Magician Nathan Burton hosts the event as 50 furry contestants from The Animal Foundation’s Lied Animal Shelter participate in the highly anticipated American Kennel Club-style dog show.

As The Animal Foundation’s largest event, “Best In Show” is Southern Nevada’s premier fundraiser for benefitting lost, unwanted and abandoned animals. The dogs compete for the audience’s hearts in several categories, and pups with the most crowd applause will advance to compete for the title of “Best In Show.” Even though there is only one winner, all handsome hounds will be available for adoption immediately following the show.

Contracts with government municipalities allow The Animal Foundation to provide care for the first 72 hours of each animal’s stay. To maintain these services and add further services such as adoptions, humane education and the recently opened low cost spay/neuter clinic, the Foundation relies on the generous efforts of animal lovers through fundraisers like “Best In Show.”

Winder Farms Presented a Check and Mac King Performed
 During Special School Assembly on Nov. 3

 

The students at Dr. C. Owen Roundy Elementary School received a special surprise visit from Winder Farms, Comedy-Magician Mac King and The Public Education Foundation on Thursday, Nov. 3.
 
During a special assembly, Winder Farms and the winner of the “Delivering Magic” Book Drive & Contest, Crystal Oliver, presented the school’s principal Rod Knowles with a $2,000 check to help support the school’s various programs. Then the students enjoyed a special performance by Harrah’s Headliner and Comedy-Magician Mac King. King performed some magic tricks and talked with the students about the importance of reading and the impact it had on his life. King attributes his career in magic to his love for reading magic books as a kid. After the assembly, Winder Farms representatives were on site to hand out fresh fruit and milk to the students for a special treat.
 
Winder Farms partnered with Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour and Clark County READS to provide local public elementary schools with much needed funds and books.  The three-week initiative collected an astounding 1,500 new and gently used books for local elementary school children.  Book donors were rewarded for their generosity with free tickets to The Mac King Comedy Magic Show, and a chance to win free groceries and the opportunity to direct money to the public elementary school of their choice.  
 
Immediately following the assembly, Mac King & Winder Farms made a second stop at The Public Education Foundation’s Book Depot to deliver the more than 1,500 books collected during the book drive. Through the foundation’s Book Re-Use Program, first and second year teachers can get free books from the Book Depot to fill their classroom libraries and hand out to students as prizes.
