Don McLean Signs $4.5 Million Administration Deal With Universal Music Publishing Group; Readies For Second Leg Of World Tour In October

McLean becomes a celebrity ambassador for Teen Cancer America charity, and continues to celebrate release of newest album, ‘Botanical Gardens.’

Legendary American singer, songwriter, and performer Don McLean recently signed a third extension to his ongoing administration deal with Universal Music Publishing Group, worth $4.5 Million. McLean, whose relationship with UMPG goes back to 1990, had this to say on the deal, “Universal has done a great job at getting my songs in movies and TV shows, and they are a first class, worldwide organization.”

With songs like “American Pie,” “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night),” “And I Love You So,” “Castles in The Air,” “The Grave,” and many more, McLean is one of many hit-makers represented by UMPG such as Adele, U2, Elton John, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond and Pearl Jam, among many others.

McLean is also readying for the second leg of his 2018 World tour which begins October 1 in Essen, Germany, and will take him through Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Finland and Norway. McLean’s previous European tour in June of this year yielded plenty of sold out shows and praise from the European press.

Several of Don’s iconic hits, including “American Pie” and “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night),” continue to be added to various popular Spotify playlists, such as: Rock Anthems, All Out 70’s, 70’s Road Trip, Classic Acoustic, Family Road Trip and Backyard BBQ. Together, these playlists have nearly 9 million user streams.

McLean also recently became a celebrity ambassador for Teen Cancer America (TCA) after attending and performing at one of the charity’s Backyard Concert Series events in August. McLean was invited by Teen Cancer America charity founder Roger Daltrey of The Who to the star-studded event which raised over $3.5 Million for the charity that evening. McLean also rehearsed with GRAMMY Award winner Ed Sheeran backstage that evening, which the video went viral on the internet soon after. Later that evening Sheeran would join McLean onstage for a special duet performance of his hit song “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night).”

With over 40 gold and platinum records worldwide, McLean’s prowess for writing timeless songs has once again been captured on Botanical Gardens, his newest album, released in March, 2018 on BMG. McLean artfully weaves country, Americana, folk, and boot-stomping rock for an eclectic, yet American sound that he is known for. Botanical Gardens is his 19th studio album and first in 8 years, is arguably one of Don’s most reflective to date.

As he characterizes it, “The inspiration for the project started years ago when I would walk in the beautiful gardens in Sydney, Australia near the Opera House. I would dream young dreams and it was a comfort and an inspiration. I was always young inside, like we all are, and I felt it again there.” Further reflecting on the record, Don says, “the whole album really revolves around the title song. Later on I realized that the gardens are really a metaphorical heaven, and there’s a kind of death and rebirth.”

New Album, “÷,” Quickly Proving To Be A Global Phenomenon, with Historic Sales and Streams Around The World

“÷” Available Now

Multiple GRAMMY® Award-winning global superstar Ed Sheeran has announced details for his North American arena tour. Dates begins June 29 at Kansas City, Mo.’s Sprint Center and then continue through early October. The tour will stop at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Friday, Aug. 4. For complete details, please visit www.edsheeran.com/live.htm

The pre-sale for the T-Mobile Arena tour stop is scheduled to begin Monday, March 13 at 10 a.m. PST and will run through Thursday, March 16 at 10 p.m. PST (supplies are limited). All remaining tickets will then be released to the general public for purchase Friday, March 17 at 10 a.m. PST. For ticket information, visit axs.com or t-mobilearena.com.

The tour celebrates Sheeran’s landmark third studio album, “÷.” The album – pronounced “divide” – includes the universal hit singles, “Shape of You” and “Castle On The Hill,” both of which made incredible chart entries after their simultaneous January release. “Shape of You” debuted at #1 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” – Sheeran’s first time atop the overall chart – and has remained there for six weeks total thus far. Meanwhile, “Castle On The Hill” entered the “Hot 100” at #6, establishing Sheeran as the first artist to ever have two singles make simultaneous top 10 debuts in the chart’s 58-year history. “Shape of You” was quickly certified 2x-platinum by the RIAA, while “Castle on the Hill” earned gold — the first two songs released in 2017 to achieve RIAA certifications this year.

“Shape of You” is currently #1 at both CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC radio outlets nationwide while also continuing to rule the top spot on iTunes’ “Top Songs” chart and Spotify’s “Top 50” (both Global and U.S.). The song’s official companion video – directed by MTV Video Music Award winner Jason Koenig– is further achieving record-shattering numbers of its own, with individual views in excess of 300 million at Sheeran’s official YouTube alone.

“÷” has fast proven an even greater phenomenon than Sheeran’s 4x RIAA platinum certified second album, 2014’s “x.” Released March 3rd, the album immediately rocketed to #1 on iTunes charts in 96 countries around the world, including the United States and the United Kingdom. “÷” has also achieved historic levels of steaming success including the best-ever one day streams for a single artist (68,695,172), best one day streams for an individual album (56,727,861), and best first day streams for an individual album (56,727,861), the latter two statistics almost doubling the previous record-holder’s success. In addition, “Shape of You,” the album’s stellar first single, earned the best one day streams for a single track with a remarkable 10,123.630 streams – besting Sheeran’s own record set earlier this year upon the single’s initial release.

“÷” also stormed streaming worldwide charts, with all 16 of the album’s tracks forming the actual top 16 on Spotify’s “Top 50” in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The complete tracklisting also instantly entered Spotify’s “Global Top 50” chart, as well as the “Top 50” in 13 international markets including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

Sheeran is celebrating the announcement of the tour this morning with a live appearance in New York City’s Rockefeller Center as part of NBC’s TODAY “Citi Concert Series.” The performance continues a long series of high profile media appearances supporting “÷,” including NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, CBS This Morning, and both the 59 Annual GRAMMY® Awards and the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Ed Sheeran – a multiple GRAMMY Award winner and 11-time GRAMMY nominee – has quickly established himself as one of the world’s biggest musical artists with over 22 million albums sold and 4.7 billion Spotify streams. “÷”  follows the British singer-songwriter’s second full length album “x”(pronounced multiply) – released in 2014 – which proved to be both a critical and commercial phenomenon.  After debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 upon its release, the album has since been certified 4x-Platinum in the US and earned two GRAMMY nominations, including the prestigious “Album Of The Year.” Additionally, “x” spawned four consecutive multi-platinum singles in “Sing,” “Don’t,” “Photograph,” and his global smash and biggest single to date “Thinking Out Loud,” which marked his first #1 at Top 40 radio and won a pair of GRAMMY awards, including highly coveted “Song Of The Year.”

Furthermore, “x” was a global sensation reaching #1 on album charts in 14 countries including his native United Kingdom, and topping 95 iTunes charts across the globe. One of the planet’s most popular live performers, Ed has played sold out headline shows at some of the biggest venues around the world, including Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, Suncorp Stadium in Sydney, and at London’s Wembley Stadium in front of 240,000 fans over 3 nights. Ed first broke through to the mainstream in 2012 with his debut album “+” (pronounced plus), which was a top 5 debut in the US  and spent three weeks at #1 in the UK. The 2x-Platinum “+” features “The A Team”, an international smash which earned Ed his first GRAMMY nomination (“Song Of The Year”) and has been certified 3x-Platinum in the US.

Sheeran launched his own imprint, Gingerbread Man Records, in 2015, with the signing of fellow British singer songwriter Jamie Lawson – whose self-titled album debuted at #1 in the UK – and Irish troubadour Foy Vance.

Multi-platinum singer and actress Selena Gomez redefines her role as a pop artist on her new album Revival which recently debuted at #1 on Billboard’s album chart.  Powerful and passionately charged, thrilling and sophisticated, Revival has also earned Gomez a host of rave reviews. Entertainment Weekly called it “one of fall’s sleekest albums” and “as fresh and forward-thinking as the music of indie darlings Tove Lo and FKA Twigs,” while Rolling Stone raved “this is the sound of a newly empowered pop artist growing into her strengths like never before.” USA Today noted that “Gomez is bound to get at least a few skeptics off of Instagram and onto the dance floor” with her “cool, groovy and electro-savvy” album. “Gomez arrives with a pop vengeance throughout the record, as ear-sucking hooks and telling lyrics lay the groundwork for ’80s-infused dance riffs and head-rushing genre-hopping that saturates all 14 tracks,” raved Complex. The first single from Revival, “Good For You” featuring A$AP Rock is Gomez’s biggest hit to date.  It is her fastest-ever platinum seller and spent three consecutive weeks at #1 at Top 40 radio.  Revival  marks the latest chapter in a career that’s brought Gomez from starring on television at age 15 to taking a central role in Harmony Korine’s 2012 cult classic “Spring Breakers” — all while selling more than 22 million singles worldwide. Gomez announced that she will embark on her worldwide “Revival Tour” in 2016. Mercedes-Benz Sponsors Rock in Rio USA

Mercedes-Benz Sponsors Rock in Rio USA

rock in Rio

Rock in Rio announced today sponsorship agreement with Mercedes-Benz to serve as official sponsor for the upcoming Rock in Rio USA music festival taking place May 8-9 and May 15-16 in Las Vegas. The agreement includes Mercedes-Benz having naming rights of the Sunset Stage that will be named Mercedes-Benz Evolution Stage.

The Rock in Rio partnership represents a natural build on the luxury brand’s involvement in producing consumer-facing music events, which began with last year’s groundbreaking multi-city Mercedes-Benz Evolution Tour. This year, Mercedes-Benz will further present consumers with experiences that showcase the evolution of the brand and tap into key consumer passion points.

“We are excited to continue our support of both up-and-coming and established talent in the music industry through the sponsorship of Rock in Rio,” said Drew Slaven, Vice President of Marketing at Mercedes-Benz USA. “Rock in Rio prides itself in delivering an unparalleled consumer experience, while appealing to a wide and diverse demographic. These key attributes are important as we continue to evolve and enhance the Mercedes-Benz music platform in the US.”

“We’re very excited to have such a premium brand as Mercedes-Benz sponsoring Rock in Rio. Over the past 30 years we’ve developed a very successful model that delivers a strong communication platform for brands,” states Roberto Medina, President and Founder of Rock in Rio. “What better way to kick-off the first US edition of Rock in Rio than to align with a top luxury brand such as Mercedes-Benz.”

Rock in Rio: 30 years of a sponsor-based event
Since its inception, Rock in Rio has embraced sponsors and brands as part of its DNA: in 1985, the first edition of the festival was sponsored by the biggest beer brand in Brazil with an investment of 25 million dollars and gathered 1.3 million people over 10 days of festival.  Nowadays, the festival has expanded to 3 countries and was attended by more than 7.4 million people. In 2013, the Brazilian edition reached 54 million dollars in sponsorships and for the September 2015 edition Rock in Rio will also gather the same value.

For the first edition in the US, Rock in Rio USA has already reached the 14 million dollars mark, and is partnering with brands like Red Bull, Bacardi, Moet Hennessy, Las Vegas Events, among others. The festival also has returning brands from previous events in Brazil and Portugal: Sky Brazil, Hotel Urbano and EDP Renewables.

The legendary music festival first edition in the US is a partnership between the MGM Resorts International, Yucaipa Gropu and Cirque du Soleil. With a capacity of 85,000 people per day, the more than 40-acre venue will include a ferris wheel and a 64-foot-high zip line. The venue also includes a VIP area that can accommodate up to 4,000 people featuring air conditioning, an all-inclusive buffet and open bar (certain premium liquors will be available for additional purchase) and a unique view of The City of Rock. Additionally, The City of Rock will feature three Rock Streets – themed streets welcoming attendees to experience an entirely new and exciting kind of music festival and to enjoy the eclectic cultures of the U.S., the UK and Brazil.

Rock in Rio USA will welcome some of the biggest names in music on its Main Stage including Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Sam Smith, Metallica, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Ed Sheeran, Big Sean, Maná and Echosmith among others. On the Mercedes-Benz Evolution Stage the lineup includes Foster the People, Jessie J, John Legend, Deftones, Charli XcX, Joss Stone and Bleachers.

Rise Against Added to the Lineup for Rock In Rio USA Taking Place May 2015 in Las Vegas

rock in Rio

RISE AGAINST ADDED TO THE LINEUP FOR ROCK IN RIO USA TAKING PLACE MAY 2015 IN LAS VEGAS

The Punk Rock Band is Scheduled to Appear on the Main Stage on the Same Date as Metallica and Linkin Park

Rock in Rio has announced Rise Against will perform on the Main Stage during the first weekend of Rock in Rio USA, taking place in Las Vegas on May 8-9 and 15-16, 2015. The Chicago punk rock band will appear on May 9, the same date as previously announced Main Stage performers Metallica and Linkin Park.

After 15 years, and six incendiary albums, Rise Against have become one of the most successful, challenging and revered punk rock bands on the planet. While selling four million albums globally across their last four releases — with 2011’s “Endgame” debuting at number one in Germany and Canada, and number two on the U.S. Billboard charts — they’ve also always adhered to the idea of music as a vehicle for change.  Rise Against’s new album “The Black Market” debuted at #3 on Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and the debuted at #1 in Germany, Australia and Canada where it has already achieved gold status.

In doing so, they’ve appeared alongside superstars like Adele and Sting on Amnesty International’s “Chimes Of Freedom — The Songs Of Bob Dylan” compilation in 2012, toured with Rage Against The Machine’s iconic guitarist Tom Morello, campaigned against gun violence with the Demand A Plan organization and advocated the Make It Stop campaign’s attempt to raise awareness of LBGT teen suicides and bullying, working closely with “It Gets Better.” It’s important to keep this rich heritage of protest in mind when discussing “The Black Market.”

Rise Against is the latest addition to an already stellar Main Stage lineup including Bruno Mars, No Doubt, Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and many others to come.  Rock in Rio has also announced initial artists for the festival’s Sunset Stage including Deftones, John Legend and Joss Stone.

Rock in Rio USA will take over the Las Vegas Strip for the first time on May 8-9 and May 15-16, 2015.  The City of Rock will host more than 100 performances over 4 days. The venue will also host three Rock Streets that capture the sounds and culture of Brazil, UK and the U.S. with dozens of performers, bands and street artists, as well as an Electronic Stage.

ROCK IN RIO USA PRESENTS ROCK STREET

ROCK STREET’S THREE STAGED STREETS CAPTURE THE CULTURE AND SOUNDS
OF BRAZIL, THE UK AND THE U.S.

BRUNO MARS, JOSS STONE AND ED SHEERAN ANNOUNCED AS ADDITIONAL PERFORMERS FOR THE MAY 2015 FESTIVAL IN LAS VEGAS

Rock in Rio, the legendary music festival, unveiled today Rock Street´s magical setting – three thematic streets that will be featured inside the City of Rock in Las Vegas  capturing the culture and sounds of Brazil, the UK and USA. In an event that took place on the grounds of the future City of Rock on the Las Vegas Strip, dozens of artists, performers and street artists filled the location, to give a sneak peek of the unique experience that audiences will enjoy at Rock in Rio USA. Rock in Rio also announced the addition of Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran who will play on the Main Stage in May, as well as Joss Stone who will perform on the Sunset Stage.

ROCK STREET:
Initially conceived four years ago to fulfill one of Roberto Medina’s dreams, Rock Street was to be a special place inside the City of Rock, where the audience and artists interact, having the imagery of New Orleans and its cultural and musical setting as a backdrop. The streets, measuring almost 500 feet long, will be filled with artists, bands and performers who will create a unique relationship with the public, in an exciting atmosphere.

With the tremendous success of Rock Street at previous Rock in Rio festivals, and with Rock in Rio celebrating its 30th anniversary and first U.S. festival, Rock in Rio USA in Las Vegas will feature not one but three different Rock Streets.  These three Rock Streets will welcome attendees to experience an entirely new and exciting kind of music festival, and to enjoy the eclectic cultures of the U.S., the UK and Brazil.

Each street has 20 houses filled with shops and restaurants, and a stage where bands and artists will perform throughout the day. Street artists and performers will also transform the street into their own stage, performing and connecting with the audience and creating an intimate environment.  Rock Street will open daily at 4 PM, with concerts and performances taking place until 2 AM when doors close.

ROCK STREET USA:
Stepping onto this street, you’ll be immediately taken to New Orleans with street-side cafés, jam sessions and blues all around! The street will include iconic American images such as a Cadillac and a diner.

Street dance has achieved high recognition in the U.S. culture, therefore the Rock Street USA stage will present dozens of different dance styles capturing the energy and versatility of the North American dance culture.

The official Street Dance crew is sure to make everyone move, and artistic directors Bruno Bastos, Miguel Colker and Shaun Evaristo will lend all their experience in creating a passionate bond between audience and dancers.

On stage, an MC will keep the stage flowing as 15 dancers perform choreographed dances from U.S. artists such as Beyoncé, Usher, Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson, all accompanied by a Beatbox rhythm. The onstage programming will be in accordance with each weekend’s line-up: the first focused on heavy metal and rock, and the second featuring pop and dance hits.

Dance routines will include styles as diverse as hip-hop, popping and locking, voguing, waackin’, dancehall, house, breaking and krumping. Guest crews from Los Angeles and Las Vegas will take part alongside the famous street dance battles of the official crew.

ROCK STREET UK:
Great Britain and Ireland have an overwhelming heritage of music that has influenced artists and musicians around the world. On this quaint street that resembles London´s Camden Town and Ireland’s Grafton Street, the houses are inspired by traditional Irish and English pubs and shops, where traditional food will be available. On the streets, the audience will meet magicians, Irish bagpipers, a Victorian inspired photographer, jugglers, caricaturists and even a Buckingham Palace guard.

On the stage, the audience will revel in the Celtic-inspired music by the band Terra Celta, who mix the energy of Brazilian culture with traditional Celtic instruments, resulting in a unique performance where dancers and instruments connect in a powerful way.

To honour the decades of influence that The Beatles and The Rolling Stones have had in modern pop/rock music, the band Stone the Beetles will perform every night. Led by Rock Street UK artistic director Bruce Leitman, the band will perform new and original arrangements for some of the memorable songs immortalized by these two icons of Rock.

The international hula hoop performer Lisa Lottie will also present her unique art that has taken her to more than 100 cities in 29 countries. Lottie is a circus trained artist and travels around the world bringing her “Bend it Like a Barbie” dance and contortionism act to street performance festivals. Her YouTube videos have scored more than 1.5 million views and her charismatic personality is sure to make this performance at Rock Street UK a memorable one.

ROCK STREET BRAZIL:
The warm and colorful culture of Brazil will make everyone instantly feel at ease and relaxed as they stroll along the houses of Rock Street Brazil. Capturing the picturesque visual of Brazilian houses and local architecture, this street will feature some of the most charismatic figures of Brazilian culture: the typical Bahiana woman resembling  the character that inspired Carmen Miranda and carrying the famous fruit basket on her head; the “Malandro da Lapa”, a character originary from the most bohemian neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro and played by ballroom dancing legend Carlinhos de Jesus; Bumba Meu Boi, a folkloric bull figure typical from the northeast of Brazil; and capoeira group Batuque that will dance and battle on the street

To complete the atmosphere, the stage will incorporate performances from three acts that represent the variety of Brazilian music culture. Spok Frevo Orquestra, the Pernambuco big band composed of 17 musicians, will bring a wide range of instruments to the stage including guitars, saxophones, drums, percussion, trombones and trumpets to transmit the bands complex mixture of genres, all inspired by traditional Brazilian music.

On the Rock Street Brazil stage, Latin GRAMMY nominee Bossa Cuca Nova will combine the roots of traditional bossa nova sounds and percussion with the rhythm of EDM in a performance with a DJ.

Leo Gandelman, one of the most established Brazilian musicians, will also take the stage with his smooth sound that crosses the borders of classic and pop music in an elegant way.

Tryst nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas and XS nightclub at Encore continue to prove themselves as the hottest entertainment venues in the country with star-studded events, surprise performances and more.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, Tryst transformed into Jermaine Dupri’s ultimate birthday headquarters as the rapper-turned-DJ took over the stage with R&B singer Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran. To get the party started, Dupri played crowd favorites such as Jay Z and Justin Timberlake’s “Holy Grail,” Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” Trey Songz’s “Say Aah” and more before throwing it back to the early 2000s with his infamous hit “Where The Party At.” During his set, fans passed around large cutouts of his face as the lovely ladies of Tryst presented him with a birthday cake shaped as turntables. XS and Tryst Managing Partner Jesse Waits was alongside Dupri as partygoers sang “Happy Birthday.”

Across the property, at the No. 1 nightclub in the country, XS welcomed award-winning DJ and producer David Guetta for another unforgettable show. Continuing to be One Direction band members’ go-to spot for a night out in Las Vegas, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik showed up at the sophisticated venue around 2 a.m. with singer Ed Sheeran and rapper Macklemore. Throughout the evening, Horan, Sheeran and Macklemore hopped on stage, jumped up and danced each time Guetta dropped the bass.

Following his set, Lil Jon and Dupri joined the group on stage to stay, “We have so many celebrities in XS tonight. Let’s keep the party going!” And they did just that as Lil Jon performed “Turn Down For What” and “Bend Ova” before passing the mic to Macklemore, who rapped his verse in “Same Love.”

Additional guests included reality star Brody Jenner, who was seen with his girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter, and four-time Mr. Olympia champion Phil “The Gift” Heath, who was celebrating the competition’s official after-party at XS.

Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires
Thursday, Sept. 18
9 p.m.; Doors at 8 p.m.

Soul and R&B singer Charles Bradley didn’t become a recording artist by taking the easy route. Born in Gainesville, Florida in 1948 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Bradley spent a good part of his childhood living on the streets. A transformational moment came when his sister took him to see James Brown at the Apollo Theater in 1962, and Bradley was struck by the singer’s energy and stage manner. Bradley escaped Brooklyn by joining the Job Corps and then spent years moving around the country and working odd jobs, before he eventually relocated back to Brooklyn to work on his dream of becoming a musician. Bradley began performing his James Brown-inspired routines in local clubs such as Black Velvet, where he attracted a loyal following and eventually captured the attention of Gabriel Roth from Daptone Records. Roth immediately brought the singer into label sessions, releasing a single, “Take It as It Comes,” showcasing what Bradley had to offer as a vocalist. During this time he also met guitarist Thomas Brenneck, who released Bradley’s full album, No Time for Dreaming (2011), on his Daptone Records sub-imprint, Dunham Records. The singer received global acclaim for the album and toured relentlessly to support it. His follow-up, Victim of Love, was released in the spring of 2013.

Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Vocalist Jennifer Keith is an American classic and a descendent of a line of entertainers. Many have described her as “the Doris Day of today” and “a pinup doll with a voice reminiscent of Peggy Lee meets Patsy Cline.”  Keith began her professional career appearing weekly at the beautiful Madison supper club in Long Beach, California, where she learned the classic vocal stylings of the jazz and pop singers of the 40’s and 50’s. She was heavily influenced by leading vocalists of the greatest era of music including Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Keely Smith, Julie London and June Christy. In 2010, the Jennifer Keith Quintet began an engagement every Friday and Saturday night in the Observation Bar aboard the prestigious Queen Mary in Long Beach. This in turn helped “polish” her group and has given her the reputation as the “premiere classic American quintet in Los Angeles.”

Juicy J
In 2006, Juicy J, the founding member and front man of Southern hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song (“Hard Out Here For a Pimp” from Hustle & Flow). While most artists would look forward, Juicy J, born Jordan Michael Houston, decided to return to square one. He spent the next years creating a street team, shooting videos and releasing mixtapesall in the name of the collective Three 6 buzz. However, in addition to furthering the group, the rapper found a solo career that transformed him from one part of a colossal whole to a standalone superstar. Along the way, Juicy J met Wiz Khalifa and earned a spot in his exclusive touring rap crew the Taylor Gang. The experience inspired the rapper to build a foundation of his own called the “Trippy Movement.” The rapper’s debut solo project, Stay Trippy, has already gotten fans’ attention. Its single “BandzA Make Her Dance,” originally released on Juicy J’s Twitter page, is certified Platinum. As a solo act, Juicy J strives to record tracks that still appeal to Three 6 Mafia members, but speak to hip-hop’s next generation as well. While bridging the gap between old and new fans under one trippy umbrella, he has cracked a code most veteran rappers struggle to decipher. There is no doubt that making uncompromised music that anyone can relate to is Juicy J’s forte.

Interpol
Although formed during the late ’90s, Interpol rose to international stardom in 2002 as part of New York City’s post-punk revival. The group took its cues from Joy Division and the Chameleons, fashioning a darkly atmospheric sound helmed by intricate guitars and Paul Banks’ somber baritone. Interpol also had a striking visual presence marked by its members’ fondness for suits, which only strengthened their stately, British-influenced appeal. Following Greg Drudy’s departure, Interpol became a core trio comprised of Paul Banks (vocals and guitar), Daniel Kessler (guitar) and Sam Fogarino (drums). Hypnotic, bizarre and always indelible, the band never ceases to amaze.

Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires
Bradley began performing his James Brown-inspired routines in local clubs such as Black Velvet, where he attracted a loyal following and eventually capturing the attention of Gabriel Roth from Daptone Records.

Working internationally, the group sent files back and forth, toiling on their tracks and eventually sculpting an indie electro sound brightened by Fabi’s Stevie Nicks-inspired vocals. The meeting led to a recording contract with J Records/Sony Music and the release of King’s debut album East Side Story, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album of the year. King has toured with John Legend and Floetry and opened for major artists, including Gnarles Barkley, Chaka Khan and Erykah Badu, before parting ways with her label in 2008.
