In celebration of ABSINTHE’s seven unabashedly irreverent years in Las Vegas, the show’s foul-mouthed owner and host will present The Gazillionaire’s Gala of Gluttony, a sure-to-be unforgettable experience inside his wondrous Spiegeltent at Caesars Palace at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 7. Hosted by The Gazillionaire and his raucous assistant Wanda Widdles, the Gala of Gluttony will feature specially created, one-night-only performances by the casts of ABSINTHE and OPIUM, a live band, and surprise guests.

 

The event, which The Gazillionaire promises to be “THE GREATEST DINNER THEATRE ON EARTH,” will feature a specially curated menu from the star restaurants of Caesars Palace, including Restaurant Guy Savoy, Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill, Searsucker, Rao’s, Beijing Noodle No. 9, and more. The intimate spectacle will be presented to an invited VIP audience seated at cocktail tables, and a limited number of tickets will be made available for sale to the public at a cost of $300 per seat with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to Three Square Food Bank. From zombie invasions to toga-themed celebrations and everything in between, The Gazillionaire is known for throwing one hell of an anniversary party. This year will take the anniversary revelry to a whole new level, with a first-of-its-kind Spiegelworld celebration.

 

“It’s beyond me how ABSINTHE is still up and running, but I won’t argue as long as the cash keeps rolling in,” shared The Gazillionaire. “You only turn seven once, so we’re doing it big. And being the generous guy I am, I’m giving a few schmucks the opportunity to dig deep into their own pockets to help out the hungry. I can’t wait for my celebrity chef friends to show off and make everyone feel bad for the gluttonous meal they’re about to indulge in. It’s a win-win for everyone, especially Three Square.”

 

Celebrating its own milestone anniversary this year, Three Square Food Bank is southern Nevada’s largest hunger relief organization and currently provides more than 37 million meals per year to those in need throughout the region. Through the end of May, each dollar donated to Three Square will be matched through the generosity of area corporate partners as part of the Bag Childhood Hunger campaign. Every dollar donated through May 31 will provide six meals to children struggling with hunger in our community. Invited guests will also have an opportunity to donate at the event.

Born in Japan, Chef Matsuhisa has used his travels around the globe to create both authentic and inventive Japanese-fusion cuisine.   • Master Series: Gordon Ramsay HELL’S KITCHEN (Caesars Palace), Thursday, May 10: Join multi Michelin star award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay at his newest restaurant, HELL’S KITCHEN at Caesars Palace. Inspired by the globally-popular FOX television show, Gordon Ramsay HELL’S KITCHEN provides guests a dining experience unlike any other. EVENT RECAP: “CHEFS TO THE MAX” DINNER AT RX BOILER ROOM RAISES $275,799 FOR LOCAL FOOD CRITIC MAX JACOBSON

Last night, Sunday, January 19, a group of the country’s most acclaimed chefs collaborated on the first “Chefs to the Max” dinner at Chef Rick Moonen’s Rx Boiler Room inside the Shoppes at Mandalay Place and raised a total of $275,799. The dinner was the first of a series to benefit critically injured Las Vegas-based food journalist Max Jacobson. The event featured a cocktail reception, sit-down seven-course dinner with wine pairing, as well as a live and silent auction for 100 guests. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit Jacobson directly to help pay for mounting medical bills as a result of the accident.

Chefs in attendance included Megan Bringas, Kim Canteenwalla, Shirley Chung, John Church, Saipin Chutima, Barry Dakake, Susan Feniger, Bobby Flay, Hubert Keller, Thomas Keller, Rick Moonen, Grant MacPherson, Mary Sue Milliken, Bradley Ogden, Luciano Pellegrini, Vincent Pilon, Pino Posteraro, Vincent Pouessel, Joey Romano, Megan Romano, Angelo Sosa and David Walzog.

In addition, Rick Moonen challenged Bobby Flay to a “Kampachi Throwdown.” Moonen prepared a Chili Seared Kona Kampachi with avocado, ruby red grapefruit and yuzu butter sauce; and Flay prepared a Kona Kampachi with Korean red pepper-tangerine glaze with pickled Brussels sprout relish and squab egg. Guests voted and Rick Moonen was announced the winner.

Two days before Christmas 2013, Jacobson was struck by a car while in the crosswalk at Windmill Parkway and Pecos Road as he walked from home to the gym. He sustained severe brain trauma from the accident. He remains in critical condition at Kindred Healthcare.

Jacobson is currently Vegas Seven’s restaurant reviewer. Prior to that, he covered Orange County for the Los Angeles Times for 15 years. He moved to Las Vegas in 1999 to be the lead critic for Las Vegas Life. He has also written for numerous national culinary publications including Saveur and Gourmet. Jacobson recently co-authored “Eating Las Vegas” with fellow food critics Al Mancini and John Curtas.

Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada to Host Famed Las Vegas Strip
Event at New York-New York Brooklyn Bridge

Celebrity chefs with roots in both New York City and Las Vegas have inspired a unique food and wine extravaganza to benefit victims devastated by superstorm Hurricane Sandy.

“When it comes to the hospitality industry, Las Vegas and New York City are really sister cities,” said Michael Severino of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada. “This is just a small way all of us in Las Vegas can help those that have been affected by these monster storms”.

The event will take place on the New York-New York Hotel & Casino Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A partial list of the chefs/restaurants invited to participate in “Start Spreadin’ the News” includes: Mario Batali, Tom Colicchio, Scott Conant, Todd English, Bobby Flay, Charlie Palmer, Nobu, Gordon Ramsay, Thomas Keller, Palm Restaurant, Smith & Wollensky, Rao’s, Stage Deli, Nathan’s, Carnegie Deli, Old Homestead and many others. Great wine, craft beers and specialty cocktails will be provided by Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada. 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

All attendees will receive a commemorative chip reading, “When the ‘chips’ were down, Las Vegas stepped up to help those who were dealt a bad hand by Hurricane Sandy, 12-9-12.”
