Tivoli Village Hosts Special Community Dinner to benefit Make-A-wish of Southern Nevada

Giving Back from the Chefs’ Table took place this past weekend, Sunday, October 18

This past Sunday, October 18 Tivoli Village hosted a special community dinner benefiting Make-A-Wish of Southern Nevada where over 100 guests gathered under the night sky to enjoy an inspired five-course meal prepared by the city’s best and brightest culinary all-stars.

Local favorites Johnny Church (Artisanal Foods Café and Catering), Kim Canteenwalla (Made LV), Sam Marvin (Echo & Rig), Daniel Krohmer (Other Mama) and Desyree Alberganti (Gelatology) all donated their time and talents to create the mouth-watering menu which included:

  • A series of delectable passed appetizers including Nashville Hot Chicken and Bacon Deviled Eggs, prepared by Kim Canteenwalla.
  • Featuring a combination of fall flavors, Johnny Church presented a Curried Kabocha Squash Soup to kick off the seated portion of the meal.
  • Daniel Krohmer plated a light and flavorful dish of Fregola with Halibut and Clams.
  • Served family style, Sam Marvin prepared Baby Back Berkshire Pork Ribs which were braised, smoked and grilled alongside fresh herb spicy slaw.
  • Desyree Alberganti finished off the evening with a surprising flavor combination, serving Bosc Pear Carpaccio, Gorgonzola and Pear Gelato, topped with Oprto Sauce and Candied Walnuts for dessert.

In addition to the culinary lineup, Las Vegas headliner Clint Holmes closed out the evening with a set of fan favorites and wish inspired numbers.

The event donated 100 percent of the ticket sales to support the important work of Make-A-Wish Foundation and specifically to a special nine-year-old within the Las Vegas community, Emma Thurgood, who is battling a malignant neoplasm of the kidney, to help realize her dream of visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studio. Additionally, enough money was raised through the silent auction to fund another wish through the foundation.

Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla’s Made.LV now open at Tivoli Village

Made.LV, the latest restaurant from Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla, has officially joined Tivoli Village’s collection of delectable restaurants as it opens its doors for business today.

The couple, which has already seen success with Las Vegas’ Honey Salt, has oriented the restaurant around the theme of “good food, good drinks and good company.”

Described by Blau as a “modern American tavern” and inspired by the tradition of neighborhood social establishments, Made.LV joins several other visitor favorite restaurants at Tivoli Village, adding even more variety to the impressive list of restaurants located within the shopping complex.

“The arrival of Made.LV at Tivoli Village is very exciting because it adds a new dynamic to our existing lineup of successful restaurants,” said Tonia Chafetz, Tivoli Village General Manager.  “We are always seeking to provide our visitors with interesting and innovative shopping and dining options in Las Vegas, and we are happy to further enhance their experience with this new restaurant.

Chef Canteenwalla’s comfort food favorites combine with Chef Blau’s healthy twists for a unique menu selection.  Signature dishes include Butcher’s Style Chicken Wings, Lentil & Chickpea Hummus, a Pulled BBQ Pork sandwich and the Tivoli Market Salad that consists of Tuscan kale, Upland Cress hearts of palms, breakfast radish, avocado, dried cherries, puffed rice and complemented by a chai seed dressing.  For a full list of menu items that are being offered at Made.LV, click here.

The bar offers a diverse beer list that highlights local, regional and international suds as well as Artisanal and classic American bottles and cans.  In addition to their diverse beer offerings, Made.LV is featuring both traditional and seasonal specialty cocktails that perfectly complement the tavern-style food.

The 216-seat establishment gives patrons the opportunity to enjoy these signature menu items and beverages in a unique setting complete with retro arcade games, a curated playlist and multiple television screens.  Made.LV will also offer patio seating and will open just in time for patrons to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere of Tivoli Village as the sweltering Las Vegas summer comes to an end and the cool fall weather begins.

Centrally located within the shopping center’s pleasant outdoor environment, guests will be able to enjoy a unique shopping experience before or after enjoying a fine meal at the restaurant. Made.LV will be opened seven days a week for dinner from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Wednesday – Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for lunch.

EVENT RECAP: “CHEFS TO THE MAX” DINNER AT RX BOILER ROOM RAISES $275,799 FOR LOCAL FOOD CRITIC MAX JACOBSON

Last night, Sunday, January 19, a group of the country’s most acclaimed chefs collaborated on the first “Chefs to the Max” dinner at Chef Rick Moonen’s Rx Boiler Room inside the Shoppes at Mandalay Place and raised a total of $275,799. The dinner was the first of a series to benefit critically injured Las Vegas-based food journalist Max Jacobson. The event featured a cocktail reception, sit-down seven-course dinner with wine pairing, as well as a live and silent auction for 100 guests. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit Jacobson directly to help pay for mounting medical bills as a result of the accident.

Chefs in attendance included Megan Bringas, Kim Canteenwalla, Shirley Chung, John Church, Saipin Chutima, Barry Dakake, Susan Feniger, Bobby Flay, Hubert Keller, Thomas Keller, Rick Moonen, Grant MacPherson, Mary Sue Milliken, Bradley Ogden, Luciano Pellegrini, Vincent Pilon, Pino Posteraro, Vincent Pouessel, Joey Romano, Megan Romano, Angelo Sosa and David Walzog.

In addition, Rick Moonen challenged Bobby Flay to a “Kampachi Throwdown.” Moonen prepared a Chili Seared Kona Kampachi with avocado, ruby red grapefruit and yuzu butter sauce; and Flay prepared a Kona Kampachi with Korean red pepper-tangerine glaze with pickled Brussels sprout relish and squab egg. Guests voted and Rick Moonen was announced the winner.

Two days before Christmas 2013, Jacobson was struck by a car while in the crosswalk at Windmill Parkway and Pecos Road as he walked from home to the gym. He sustained severe brain trauma from the accident. He remains in critical condition at Kindred Healthcare.

Jacobson is currently Vegas Seven’s restaurant reviewer. Prior to that, he covered Orange County for the Los Angeles Times for 15 years. He moved to Las Vegas in 1999 to be the lead critic for Las Vegas Life. He has also written for numerous national culinary publications including Saveur and Gourmet. Jacobson recently co-authored “Eating Las Vegas” with fellow food critics Al Mancini and John Curtas.

About Noah’s Animal House

Every 15 seconds, a woman is battered by her partner in the United States.  Many battered women lack the financial resources and emotional support to flee their abuser.  Often, the inability to leave is expanded to include family members; especially those sometimes forgotten – the family pet.  In a national survey, 85% of women seeking safety in a domestic violence shelter reported pet abuse in their home.  Las Vegas was one of the first cities in the United States to address the important barrier facing victims of domestic violence.  Noah’s Animal House was built on the grounds of The Shade Tree shelter in 2007 to provide safety, shelter and support for the pets of the clients of The Shade Tree.  In addition, foster parents are available for special pets that require more living space and veterinary services are on hand at all times.
