Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson will release her fifth studio album, Lights Out, on April 15th via Cabin 24/Mom+Pop. The first single, “Girls Chase Boys,” is now available at all digital retailers and the music video is going viral, with incredible media attention and over 1.5 million views so far. To celebrate the release Michaelson will embark on a 31-date tour which kicks off April 21st at Le National in Montreal, Quebec and will run through June 3rd at the House of Blues in Boston. “’Girls Chase Boys’ started out as a break up song but took on a deeper meaning as I continued writing,” said Michaelson of the single. “More than just being about my experience, its focus shifted to include the idea that, no matter who or how we love, we are all the same. The video takes that idea one step further and attempts to turn stereotypical gender roles on their head. Girls don’t exclusively chase boys, we all know this. We all chase each other and in the end we are all chasing after the same thing: love.”

Beyond the sweetly buoyant “Girls Chase Boys,” presented visually in a cheeky music video that’s a stylistic homage to Robert Palmer’s “Simply Irresistible,” the new album finds Michaelson exploring some thoughtful, sometimes darker themes based on personal challenges she’s experienced over the last year. She also pushed her boundaries with the production of Lights Out, choosing a more inclusive creative process. Recorded in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville, she worked with six producers and ten co-writers, including singer-songwriters Katie Herzig, Trent Dabbs and Busbee (Pink, Katy Perry, Lady Antebellum) as well as A Great Big World and Mat Kearney, with whom she also shares duets.

“The last year has been one of the most challenging of my life,” said Michaelson. “This album is a reflection of all of that. It’s about being pushed to your limits and looking for help from something other than yourself. It’s about letting go and being alright with that, accepting that. I collaborated with many different writers and producers but, ironically, I believe this is the most personal record I’ve made. I feel like I needed others to save me, in a way – to get the darkness out and help turn it to light. I’m so proud of the record and of the many friends who helped me make it. And I cannot wait to perform these songs live!”

This January Ingrid partnered with Rainn Wilson and his popular video production company SoulPancake to host a series of comedic shorts entitled, “Little Kids. Big Questions.” The series pays homage to Art Linkletter and Bill Cosby and makes use of Michaelson’s earnest approach and comedic timing to draw unique and often hilarious answers out of adorable kids. Last fall, Michaelson’s popular side project ARMY OF 3 released their debut EP. ARMY OF 3, a group comprised of Michaelson, producer Chris Kuffner and director Dylan Steinberg, first drew attention on YouTube for their visually compelling music videos featuring inventive covers of Rihanna’s “We Found Love” and Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.”

Drawing from his real-life experiences growing up in New Jersey, Bill Bellamy brings his clever comic routine to the Suncoast Showroom, March 1 and 2.

After winning numerous comedy competitions, Bellamy made his television debut on “Showtime at the Apollo.” He caught the attention of comedy producers Bernie Brillstein and Russell Simmons, who signed him as a guest star of HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” in 1992. Bellamy went on to star in his own Showtime comedy special, “Booty Call,” in 1996.

Bellamy became a staple of the MTV generation as host of “MTV Jams” in the late ‘90s. He continued his television career as the voice of the title character in “Cousin Skeeter” from 1998-2001, as a recurring character in “Men, Women & Dogs” in 2001 and 2002, and “Fastlane” in 2002 and 2003.

Bellamy made his feature film debut in 1997 in “Love Jones” and has gone on to star in numerous films, including “Any Given Sunday,” “The Brothers” and “Lottery Ticket.”

In June 2012, Bellamy’s “Crazy Sexy Dirty” comedy special debuted on Showtime and is available on DVD. Recently, he starred in the syndicated comedy “Mr. Box Office,” and launched his groundbreaking new comedy tour “Ladies Night Out.”

Award-winning percussion group Street Drum Corps was honored at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas with a memorabilia case on Thursday, Jan. 30.

The display includes items from the group’s five-month residency at Vinyl such as a drumhead, trashcan, bucket, washing machine and custom-made clothing items worn by Street Drum Corps’ founding members Bobby Alt, Adam Alt and Frank Zummo. From Cambridge, Mass., 25-year-old rising artist Sammy Adams stormed the music scene with his major-label debut single “Blow Up,” a hypnotic head-nodding beat looking at what life is like for this young musician.  Adams began to write rhymes and create beats while in high school, but it was at Trinity College that he came up with the idea for his breakthrough single “I Hate College,” a cheeky remix of Asher’s Roth’s “I Love College.” After Adams’ friend posted it on his blog in August 2009, the track spread like wildfire among students across the Northeast and he began booking shows at colleges who were impressed with the new talent.

Adams built such a sizable following through touring that his independently released album Boston’s Boy shot to the top of the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart on its first day out in March 2010.  In September 2010, Adams released his first mixtape, Party Records, a seamless blend of dubstep, bass music, and electro-house with beats by Rusko, Deadmau5, Bassnectar, and other EMD giants. The son of a grocer and Italian-born immigrant, Anthony Dominick Benedetto, aka Tony Bennett, was born on Aug. 3, 1926, in the Astoria section of Queens, New York. With worldwide record sales in the millions, Bennett has received 17 Grammy Awards including the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The MTV generation took to Bennett during his appearance with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the 1993 MTV
Video Awards. He appeared on MTV Unplugged and the recording of the same name earned him the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. “Tony Bennett has not just bridged the generation gap,” observed The New York Times, “he has demolished it. He has connected with a younger crowd weaned on rock. And there have been no compromises.”

Bennett’s initial fame came via a string of Columbia singles in the early 1950s, including such chart-toppers as “Because of You,” “Rags To Riches” and a cover of Hank Williams’ “Cold, Cold Heart.” He has placed two-dozen songs in the Top 40, including “I Wanna Be Around,” “The Good Life,” “Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)” and his signature hit, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” One of only a few artists to have albums chart in the 1950s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and the new millennium, he’s

Two rock groups that have left an indelible mark on fans, album sales and the music industry – Starship starring Mickey Thomas and Survivor – will perform at the Eastside Cannery April 20, 2012 at 8:30 p.m.

The albums of both groups were a an almost constant fixture on Billboard’s Hot 100 Songs of the Year and 200 Albums of the Year in 1985, 1986 and 1987. The extensive radio airplay and exposure on emerging video music channels, MTV and VH1, only added to their success in the studio and on tour.

Mickey Thomas established himself as one of Rock music’s most recognizable voices. His soaring, strong vocals helped propel Starship’s albums in the 1980s and 90s to Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum status. He made his mark in the music world in 1976 as lead vocalist on the hit “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” with The Elvin Bishop Band. Three years later Thomas joined Jefferson Starship as lead vocalist after the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin. The new partnership produced a number of hits including the #1 song “Jane.”

The group was renamed Starship and continued to record an amazing string of hits including “No Way Out,” “We Built This City,” and “Sara.” In addition, Starship received an Oscar nomination for the #1 hit “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now” from the movie Mannequin.  The group’s other top hits included “Find Your Way Back,”  “Stranger,” “Laying It On The Line” and “It’s Not Over Till Its Over” which became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987.

It took Survivor five years to achieve what some bands never get; national status and a #1 hit.  Survivor’s title song  “Eye of The Tiger” took the 1982 album to multi-Platinum status but also earned the group a Grammy® award and an Oscar® nomination.  The song was expressly written for Rocky III and stayed at #1 on US charts for seven weeks.

The band toured on the success of the Eye of The Tiger album and would eventually follow up with the Top 20 hits “I Can’t Hold Back,” “High on You,” and “The Search Is Over.”  The song “Burning Heart” peaked at  #2 on the charts as part of the Rocky 4 soundtrack.

Foundation launches full day event to face the issue of digital media bullying

 

 With the recent bullying epidemic that has sent shockwaves through the country and school systems, the Taylor Barton Foundation has decided to launch “Challenge Day” in his hometown of Las Vegas, which will change the way youth interact with one another and offer a safe environment to share their true feelings, the result naturally combats bullying in schools and within social media platforms.

“Challenge Day” will take place Monday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Del Sol High School for a full day event. The 6 ½ -hour Challenge Day program is designed to build connection and empathy, and to fulfill our vision that every child lives in a world where they feel safe, loved, and celebrated. Challenge Day’s mission is to provide youth and their communities with experiential workshops and programs that demonstrate the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth and full expression.

The founders of “Challenge Day” who will be administering the event’s activities have also been on the popular MTV television show “If You Really Knew Me,” CNN and Oprah and served over 1,000,000 youth in 400 cities, 45 U.S. States, and five provinces of Canada. Adults and VIP attendees will be at the event from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for class instructions while the children will be able to leave at 2 p.m.

 

During the event the Taylor Barton Foundation will also be launching the “Text It Forward” campaign that uses texting and social media to spread positive messages to youth encouraging them to stop the bullying and use digital media only in positive ways. Utilizing these same tools that have been the method used for bullying will hopefully show there are still safe ways to communicate through social media outlets.

 

“Once kids go through an experimental program they want to talk about it and share it, so Text It Forward will give them the platform and a safe environment in which they can do so, creating a snowball effect of positive messaging,” said Taylor Barton.

SCOTT DISICK AND KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN SPEND AN EVENING AT SUGAR FACTORY AMERICAN BRASSERIE IN LAS VEGAS

Reality sensation Scott Disick, and his gorgeous girlfriend, Kourtney Kardashian, stopped for dinner at the sweetest spot on the Strip, Sugar Factory American Brasserie ( http://www.sugarfactory.com/ ) inside Paris Las Vegas last night with a group of friends, including fellow television personalities, Lisa and Brittny Gastineau. Also spotted was Jareb Dauplaise of MTV’s “The Hard Times of RJ Berger” and Colin Cunningam and Peter Shinkoda of TNT’s “Falling Skies.”

Kardashian and Disick enjoyed a delicious dinner of Chinese chicken salad, creamy artichoke dip, free range roasted chicken breast and Black Angus filet as they sipped on the signature Lollipop Passion cocktail before indulging in the eatery’s decadently sinful milk chocolate fondue. Kardashian was dressed in an Alice + Olivia bone-colored cocktail dress and towering black Christian Louboutin heels. Disick looked dapper, per usual, in a custom lavender suit.

Dauplaise, Cunningham and Shinkoda had a great meal featuring mouth-watering appetizers such as fried macaroni and cheese pops, chicken bites, steamed mussels and bruschetta, then ordered enticing entrees like Black Angus filets, chicken Pappardelle pasta, Brie and ham crepes and a tuna melt. The guys sipped on Heinekens and Guinness beers throughout the meal, laughing and enjoying the night with their friends. Dauplaise also browsed the retail store, picking up a bag of licorice and a tube of neon-colored sugar.
