Billboard, dick clark productions and Chevrolet announced earlier tonight that Carrie Underwood was the winner of the second annual Milestone Award, presented at the star-studded 2014 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The fan-voted, editorial award celebrates the ingenuity of this year’s hitmakers, and spotlights an innovative artist that achieved a notable chart milestone over the past year.

Carrie Underwood has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide and placed 18 singles at #1, with nine of those as co-writes, all within four albums since winning American Idol in 2005. She has won a vast array of awards including six GRAMMYs® and three female vocalist awards from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM). In 2010 when Carrie garnered her second win as ACM Entertainer of the Year, she became the first female artist to win the award twice. Carrie has won a total of 11 ACM Awards, 5 CMA Awards, 7 American Music Awards, 6 People’s Choice Awards, 9 CMT Music Awards, 12 American Country Awards, 9 BMI Songwriter Awards, and is a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry. The initial six nominees for the 2014 Milestone Award presented by Chevrolet included Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Luke Bryan, OneRepublic, Ellie Goulding and Carrie Underwood. The six nominees were then pared down to three finalists mid-April: Carrie Underwood, Ellie Goulding and OneRepublic. And in end, after the votes were cast, Carrie Underwood came out on top.

“Wow! I truly have the best fans in the world,” said Underwood as she accepted her award in a heartfelt speech. “I couldn’t do one one-zillionth of what I do without them.”

Starting on April 1, fans voted for their favorite nominees on Billboard.com/milestone. Voting continued all the way through 10pm ET / 9pm CT on May 18 during the live Billboard Music Awards, and culminated with the announcement of the award winner toward the end of the show presented by superstar artist, Kelly Rowland.

On May 13, Epic Records, in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson, will release XSCAPE, an album of new music by the internationally beloved music icon and King of Pop, Michael Jackson.  The project features eight new tracks, which the world will be hearing for the very first time on the new album.  The first single from the album, Michael Jackson’s “Love Never Felt So Good,” produced by Michael Jackson, John McClain, Giorgio Tuinfort and Paul Anka, was released last week along with a duet version of “Love Never Felt So Good,” with Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake, produced by Timberlake, Timbaland and Jerome “J-Roc” Harmon.  The single lit up the iTunes charts around the world, peaking at #5 in the U.S., #1 in 17 countries and #5 in 67 countries. It debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart — Jackson’s highest bow since 1995 and fourth-highest debut ever — marking his 49th hit single.

To date Jackson has sold 1 billion records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles on the Hot 100 (a record for a male artist) and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. ABOUT MIRANDA LAMBERT
Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert is the reigning four-time CMA and reigning five-time ACM Female Vocalist of the Year (the first time anyone has won 5 consecutive years). Her last album, Four The Record, made history when it debuted atop Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, making Miranda the first country artist in the 47-year history of the chart to have each of her first four albums debut at # 1. The Icon Awards is a lifetime achievement award and the ultimate honor.  Jennifer is the 4th artist and the first woman, in the four years of its existence, to receive the award for their remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music.  Past winners include Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, and Prince.
