MGM RESORTS ANNOUNCES JUNE 11 OPENING DATE FOR EXCALIBUR HOTEL & CASINO

Employee and Guest Health & Safety at Forefront of Company’s
Reopening Planning

MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) announced it will reopen Excalibur Hotel & Casino Thursday, June 11 following its closure earlier this year amidst the COVID-19 crisis. Excalibur joins MGM Resorts’ Bellagio, New York-New York, MGM Grand Las Vegas and The Signature, which all opened their doors in Las Vegas Thursday, June 4.

“We are very pleased by the enthusiasm we are seeing from guests ready to come back to Las Vegas,” said Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts’ Acting CEO and President. “As business demand increases, we are able to open additional properties and bring more of our employees back to work. Getting people back to work coupled with providing a safer environment for our employees and our guests are our top priorities.”

Health & Safety

MGM Resorts’ comprehensive “Seven-Point Safety Plan,” reflects a multi-layered set of protocols and procedures designed in conjunction with medical and scientific experts to mitigate the spread of the virus, protect customers and employees and rapidly respond to potential new cases. The full plan can be reviewed at mgmresorts.com. The company will continue to evaluate and evolve its safety protocols.  Key initiatives include:

  • Employee screening, temperature checks and COVID-19 specific training
  • COVID-19 testing offered for employees as they return to work in partnership with the local medical community
  • Employees will be required to wear masks; Guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks, and in some settings where physical distancing is more difficult and/or barriers do not exist, will be required to do so.  Examples of where masks will be required include salons, table games where physical barriers are not in place and elevators, if riding with guests outside of their travel group. Masks will be provided, free of charge
  • A physical distancing policy will be implemented, with floor guides serving as reminders
  • For areas where physical distancing presents challenges, plexiglass barriers will be installed, or other measures will be used to reduce risks
  • Standalone handwashing stations designed by MGM Resorts conveniently located on casino floors
  • Contactless Check-In through the MGM Resorts App allows hotel guests to go through the check-in process on their personal devices, minimizing interactions
  • Guestroom Attendants wear masks and gloves while cleaning each room and will change gloves between guestrooms
  • In addition to increased and enhanced routine cleaning of guestrooms and public spaces based on CDC guidance, electrostatic sprayers are utilized in many large public spaces so that disinfectant is applied efficiently
  • Digital menus are available to view on personal mobile devices via QR codes in the company’s food and beverage outlets
  • To minimize groups congregating while they wait, restaurant guests will receive text message notification when their tables are ready
  • MGM has compiled its own internal team and processes to respond if a guest or employee tests positive for COVID-19.  We ask that if a guest tests positive after visiting one of our properties, they alert us through a special email address (covid19@mgmresorts.com).  We will immediately report any positive test results to the local health department and assist with contact tracing to support the health department investigators.

Within Excalibur’s castle walls, in addition to a full casino experience, guests will enjoy the playful pool complex including the slide pool and the Drenched Pool Cafe, the popular Fun Dungeon Arcade, as well as a variety of bars and dining destinations. Hotel guests also will have access to the Fitness Center.

Mama Rabbit Bar Tells the Story of Oaxaca with Mezcal, Tequila, Craft Cocktails, Bold Art and Vibrant Design

Las Vegas is now home to the country’s most extensive collection of tequila and mezcal including agave-based spirits that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. In collaboration with James Beard Award-winning mezcal pioneer Bricia Lopez, Park MGM debuts Mama Rabbit Bar – a true Oaxacan experience featuring modern Mexican cocktails, live entertainment, a pop-surrealist art installation from Okuda San Miguel and more than 500 labels of tequila and mezcal.

Mama Rabbit draws inspiration from the legend of Mayahuel, the goddess of agave and fertility, who was said to have 400 rabbit children that she nourished with mezcal and tequila. Over time, the rabbits came to symbolize the entire spectrum of feelings one experiences while enjoying the spirits.

  • World’s Firsts – Mama Rabbit’s collection of agave-based spirits features more than 500 different labels. Highlights include spirits exclusive to Mama Rabbit, such as the world’s first mezcal-barreled Blanco tequila, the first-of-its-kind mezcal aged in premium Mendocino pot still brandy casks, and a Centennial Blend featuring 10 aged tequilas in one bottle adding up to 100 years in age.

 

  • Tour de Mexico – The flavor of each spirit is heavily influenced by the elevation and geographic location in which the agave was grown. Guests can taste their way through Oaxaca with the help of a geographical guide in the menu that plots the origin of each agave spirit. The tequilas and mezcals are available in one- or two-ounce pours and can be crafted into a tasting flight. Each pour is served with a unique pairing to amplify its flavor like an Oaxacan chocolate truffle.

 

  • Fresh Takes – Mama Rabbit crafts colorful cocktails that enhance the agave flavors through an elaborate creation process. Salt of the Earth pairs dry ice with Los Nahuales Reposado Mezcal, Amontillado Sherry, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, Corazon Bitters, vegetable salt and botanicals for a presentation that plays on mezcal’s inherent smoky flavor. Flora y Fauna also incorporates dry ice for a playful drink made with El Tesoro Blanco Tequila, cucumber, Chareau Aloe Liqueur, lime and rose water.

 

  • Classics Reimagined – Mama Rabbit changes perceptions of classic tequila and mezcal-based drinks with bold and defining flavors. The Palomita features Casamigos Mezcal, hibiscus syrup, grapefruit, lime, Watermelon-Hibiscus Agua Fresca Cerveza and a hibiscus salt rim. The Guelaguetza Cocktail, a staple at Lopez’s Los Angeles restaurant, is a take on the margarita with El Silencio Espadin, lime, sal de gusano and a frozen lime paleta. Another of Lopez’s favorites is the Mamachelada, which includes her signature I Love Michelada OG Brown Mix paired with Mexican lager, tajin and lime.

 

  • Bottle Servicito – Groups can enjoy a fun style of bottle service with the Bottle Servicito menu, which features approximately 20 tequilas and 10 mezcals. Each bottle is presented with a tower overflowing with house-made mixers, fresh squeezed juices, salts, herbs and fresh fruits.

 

  • No Paper Straws – All drinks at Mama Rabbit are served with biodegradable Bio Agave straws made from agave fibers discarded during the agave fermentation process.

 

In addition to the expansive beverage menu, Mama Rabbit also serves a selection of light bites inspired by Oaxacan cuisine such as Mama’s Guacamole or the Salsa Trio & Chips, which includes tomatillo crudo, Oaxaca pasilla and habanero borracho salsas. For something sweet, guests can enjoy crisp Churros with an Oaxacan chocolate dip or a tangy Lime Paleta.

 

 

The Legend of Mayahuel Comes to Life

 

With interiors and branding conceived by DesignAgency, the design fuses the electric atmosphere of a Mexican taverna with the artful magic and mystery of a speakeasy, complete with visually rich textures, colors and patterns synonymous with Mexican modernism. Lively music captures the state of Oaxaca’s energy while a bold and bright art program pays homage to the region’s famous art scene.

 

Mama Rabbit is divided into three distinct spaces with the focal point of a double-sided bar that stretches 40 feet high and features Mama Rabbit’s stunning collection of artisanal mezcal and tequila bottles. The front bar serves walk-up guests daily. To the left of the bar, a sophisticated and intimate lounge beneath a cavern-like brick vaulted colonnade features five secluded spaces with casual seating for larger groups and retractable shutters that open to the resort. On the opposite side of the bar, Mama Rabbit’s taverna features a robust lineup of entertainment that transitions the mood of the venue throughout the evening. Key design elements:

 

  • Okuda’s “Mother Natura” – The goddess takes her place at Mama Rabbit in a work of art by acclaimed artist Okuda San Miguel entitled “Mother Natura,” which features an 18-by-22-foot mural of Mayahuel looking down upon a valley with agave. The mural is accompanied by a series of three 12-feet-tall sculptures- a bunny and two deer. Mayahuel watches over her children who are adorning the opposite wall in the form of 400 barro negro rabbit figurines handcrafted by Oaxacan ceramicists.

 

  • Taverna Features – Underscoring Mama Rabbit’s mischievous theme, Italian/Mexican woodworker Renzo Spada created an elaborately hand-carved fireplace for the lounge depicting children hiding behind rabbit masks. Overhead, a custom mobile light fixture by LA-based artist Andrea Claire features dancing bamboo lanterns and mirrored black polished orbs. Directly below, blackjack and roulette gaming tables sit on a custom-designed carpet adorned with flowers and jumping rabbits that enhances the playful and eclectic environment.

Photos: Miles Teller Celebrates Labor Day Weekend with Star-Studded Group – Saturday, Aug. 30

This past weekend (Saturday, Aug. 30) Hakkasan Nightclub Las Vegas had the Labor Day Weekend festivities in full party mode as “Ten Feet Tall” artist Afrojack manned the decks into the early hours of the morning. The evening was a star-studded affair as “Fantastic Four” star Miles Teller was spotted celebrating the holiday weekend in true Vegas fashion at the hot spot. Joined by a number of close friends including Chace Crawford and Jessica Szhor of “Gossip Girl,” “Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev and “Glee’s” Jenna Ushkowitz, the group took in the sights of the destination while partying the night away at a VIP booth located on the fourth level of the nightlife mecca.

 

The group arrived just after midnight and took their place on the main stage. All dressed to the nines, the quickly got their night started with a celebratory toast and began dancing to Afrojack’s heart-pumping set. As the night went on, Teller hopped into the DJ booth and took over Hakkasan’s iconic CO2 button and blasted the crowed with the icy smoke as partygoers shouted with excitement. Seemingly in good spirits, the group fully enjoyed their time as they took photos with one another, sipped cocktails and danced the night away before making their way out of the nightspot around 3 a.m.

 

Earlier in the day, the group was spotted enjoying the desert sun as they indulged in a VIP Bungalow at WET REPUBLIC at MGM Grand. As legendary DJ icon Tiësto had the party heating up with his chart-topping hits, the talented starts spent the day sipping cocktails and feasting on delicious eats while mingling with one another and their fans.

Internationally acclaimed landscape photographer Jeff Mitchum has released his highly anticipated image “Range of Light” for public acquisition and announced the upcoming installation of the collector’s edition at his MGM Grand Hotel & Casino gallery in Las Vegas. Taken during a recent trip to Yosemite in honor of Ansel Adams, the photo is Mitchum’s full color interpretation of his mentor’s famous shot, “Monolith.” Years in the making, the award-winning landscape photographer has released only 25 artist proofs with the belief that rare moments require rare prints.

“Little did I know the day I first walked through the valley floor more than four decades ago that I was beginning a journey of emotions that would ultimately convey how I would photograph and see the world,” said Mitchum. “One of the pillars of my creativity is Ansel Adams; his mentorship is one of the reasons I have stayed true to film photography and the art of visualization. Many years have passed since I started visualizing my own interpretation of his wonderful image ‘Monolith’ so I am thrilled that my season to stand on the famous Diving Board at Yosemite and present ‘Range of Light’ has finally arrived.”

“Range of Light” was named years before it was captured for the title perfectly conveys what Mitchum has personally experienced; a wide spectrum of Yosemite color and emotion. From the intense black streaks running down the face of Half Dome and the deep reds and greens in the pines, to the glazed-like reds in the rocks below the face and ridge holding the trees, the image evokes a sense of space and freedom. The sweeping views of Tenaya Canyon with Mt. Watson to the left and the vast Eastern Sierras in the distance opens up the visual journey unlike any other place in Yosemite. With the sun setting behind Mt. Watson and the sky’s temperature changing color, the release of the shutter was activated during a 10-second period when a shaft of light suddenly appeared out of the heavens and lit up the face of Half Dome.
