Local Band Face First to Headline Tommy Rocker’s Cantina & Grill – UNLV 80’s Reunion on May 9

Local Band Face First to Headline Tommy Rocker’s
Cantina & Grill – UNLV 80’s Reunion on May 9

Popular Las Vegas Band From the Late ‘80’s to Celebrate 30 Years of Rockin’ Together

Local Rock & Roll Favorite Face First will bring down the house as its original lineup celebrates 30 years of performing in Las Vegas on May 9.  This special 80’s UNLV Reunion show is set for May 9 at 8 p.m. at Tommy Rocker’s Cantina & Grill, 4275 Dean Martin Drive, Las Vegas, Nev., 89103.

Face First will party to the reminiscent cover sounds of Billy Idol, INXS, Bon Jovi, The Cure, Night Ranger, The Romantics and more. They will also do “Tree In Your Eye”, a Face First original.

Each an accomplished musician, the members of Face First were inducted into the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as innovators of the live music scene in the 80s. Face First was inducted in 2013.

The original lineup remains intact: Kevin Andersen, keyboards; Steve “Bongo” Doctors, drums; Dirk Hanson, lead vocals; Don Polednak, lead guitar; Ray Tuntland, bass guitar.

Face First got its start in 1985 when five UNLV students formed the group to cover the giant hits of the day.  Face First created a cult following at the time, performing in popular UNLV college bar hangouts of the day – Steak Out, Sneakers and Doc ‘N Eddies. During the ‘80s, they created a standing-room only scene in Las Vegas bars and on the UNLV campus. In addition, they headlined a UNLV concert that was touted back then as one of the first “dry fraternity rush” parties for the university.

“Back in the day, we were college guys in different fraternities that decided to form a cover band in the ‘80s just for something to do.  What started out as a fun side gig really turned into a full-time experience, and we made a name for ourselves that lasted the entire time we were in college,” said Steven “Bongo” Doctors, Face First drummer.

“Facebook has been an instrumental source to help reunite the band, with many of our friends and old fans trying to locate us,” said Dirk Hanson, lead vocalist. “The band has always kept in touch, remaining great friends to this day. We thought this concert would be a great way for us to get together. We had no idea that our former following would be so receptive,” he said.

“Tommy Rocker gave us our start at UNLV when we opened for him at the ‘Kill Kadafi’ party at the Donald C. Moyer Student Union,” said Don Polednak, guitarist. “It’s sentimental and fitting that 30 years later, we join forces again with Tommy Rocker for this UNLV 80’s rock party,” he said.

“RAIDING THE ROCK VAULT,”
‘Classic Rock By Those Who Rocked It!’
SIGNS GROUNDBREAKING LONG TERM AGREEMENT
TO CONTINUE IN 2014 AT THE
LVH – LAS VEGAS HOTEL & CASINO

The LVH – Las Vegas Hotel & Casino is excited to announce that its spectacular show, “Raiding the Rock Vault,” has signed a long term agreement to continue through 2014.

“Raiding the Rock Vault” opened in March 2013 and has consistently received critical and audience acclaim, as well as having been rated Vegas’ #1 Show.  The show will reopen on January 24, 2014.

“The LVH is beyond thrilled to have “Raiding the Rock Vault” continue in 2014,” said LVH Vice President of Entertainment, Rick White.  “The show promises to only get bigger and better this year with new cast members, songs and guest stars.  We truly believe it’s going to continue to be known as THE must-see show for visitors and locals alike.”

“We are honored to bring this incredible musical extravaganza back to the legendary stage which was the home of long term residencies by Elvis Presley, Liberace and Barry Manilow, as well as concert performances by many of the top rock, pop and country artists of all time,” said “Raiding the Rock Vault” producer Sir Harry Cowell.

This amazing concert experience brings the history of rock ‘n’ roll to life with an all-star super group of musicians the likes of which is not seen anywhere in Las Vegas.  The legendary classic rock songs of the `60s, `70s and `80s that everyone immediately recognizes – anthems for a generation – are played with stunning accuracy by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Howard Leese [Guitar] (Heart), sensational guitar player Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake), phenomenal vocalists John Payne [Lead Vocals and Bass] (Asia), Robin McAuley [Lead Vocals] (MSG, Survivor), Paul Shortino [Lead Vocals] (Rough Cutt, Quite Riot), Andrew Freeman [Lead Vocals and Guitars] (Lynch Mob, The Offspring), extraordinary drummer Jay Schellen (Badfinger, Asia), and keyboard whiz Michael T. Ross (Lita Ford Band).  In addition to this unbelievable roster of rock musicianship, rotating special guests will continue to be a part of the show.  Previous special guests included Lou Gramm, original lead singer of Foreigner, Bobby Kimball, original lead singer of Toto, founding member and lead singer of Yes, Jon Anderson, and Mickey Thomas of Starship.

The show itself revolves around the “Rock Vault,” a giant capsule found in the distant future and opened to reveal the history of classic rock.  Entertaining vignettes by actors, narration by acclaimed actor Richard Malmos, and historical videos on giant screens help move the story through time.  The show is, of course, highlighted by electrfying performances of rock classics from The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Free, The Eagles, Queen, Boston, Kansas, U2, Van Halen, AC/DC, Foreigner, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Supertramp, and many, many more.

Written by musician, producer and vocalist, John Payne (Asia), and Grammy Award-winning record producer David Kershenbaum (Joe Jackson, Tracy Chapman, Supertramp) “Raiding the Rock Vault” was born to give audiences an illuminating look at the history of rock and, for those who lived it, an exciting trip down memory lane.

“Raiding the Rock Vault” will be performed Friday through Tuesday nights weekly (schedule subject to change) beginning January 24 at 8 p.m. in the LVH Theater.  Ticket prices for “Raiding the Rock Vault” range from $49 to $70 plus taxes and fees. Announcing P3Studio Artist-in-Residence Todd DiCiurcio

TODD DICIURCIO PRESENTS DRAW US SIN
April 24 – May 12, 2013
Hours: Wednesday – Sunday | 6 – 11PM

P3Studio
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
3708 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Las Vegas, NV 89109

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, in partnership with Art Production Fund, announce artist-in-residence Todd DiCiurcio. While in P3Studio, DiCiurcio will transform the space into a working studio where he will draw performances live while they happen. Musicians, performers and guests will be able to sign up for an opportunity to perform a 1 hour set in P3Studio while DiCiurcio captures them on paper using a range of media. Each performer will have free reign to do whatever they please with their time slot and guests will be encouraged to experience each set. These visual recordings will be immediately displayed in P3Studio as they are finished. DiCiurcio’s process will involve the use of assemblage in order to build upon the environmental compositions as they are drawn, and later implemented. He will be inviting special guests to attend and perform from underground to well known acts, including The Men and BadBad. DiCiurcio’s objective is to depict live performances to showcase a dialogue between the visual work and the music, the outcome of which will expose the politics and progress of the current underground showcase.

New York based artist Todd DiCiurcio creates mixed media drawings that grasp the electric experience of the “live” musical performance. For over a decade as both an artist and a witness, he chose to depict the immediacy of modern culture by rendering the live performances of contemporary musicians through ink and graphite. His drawings are as spontaneous as the performances themselves, created in one continuous line. By rendering in visual language the temporality of music, DiCiurcio creates significant and poignantly energetic aesthetic compositions. His unchained use of lines produces spontaneous but at the same time highly elaborated images.

Throughout his career, DiCiurcio has documented numerous bands, including: Guided by Voices, Jane’s Addiction, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bon Jovi, Kings of Leon, Dinosaur Jr., Bob Mould, Broken Social Scene, Exitmusic, Wyclef Jean, The English Beat, Grizzly Bear, The Killers, Angus Stone, MT Warning, The Rolling Stones, New Order, Cat Power, Guster and many others. Through live drawings that are dynamically rendered during the performance, his work grasps the spontaneity and progressive quality of events as they unfold.

The artist-in-residence program at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas represents one component of its larger art program, in which artists create projects that are interactive and participatory, giving guests the opportunity to connect at an authentic and personal level. Developed and curated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to producing ambitious public art projects, it strives to reach new audiences and expand awareness through contemporary art.
