Alternative synth-pop superstars Phoenix are headed to Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas at The Linq Promenade on Wednesday, June 14 at 8:30 p.m. The popular French group is teasing new music for the first time in four years and will begin an international tour on May 12 in Florida.


The quartet – Thomas Mars (vocals), Deck d’Arcy (bass, keyboards), Chris Mazzalai (guitar) and Laurent Brancowitz (guitar, keyboards) – began alluding to new music, as they so often do, by updating their social media channels. In a 30-second video released on March 1, 2017, Phoenix made their first announcement of upcoming tour dates. Another, released on Monday, March 27, announced more dates, including the Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas stop.


Fans can expect a litany of Phoenix favorites like “Lisztomania,” and “1901” from 2009’s “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix,” as well as the aforementioned new music the band continues to tease.

Winners in The Best of Silver State Restaurants & Lounges Awards Announced Dec 13



More than 13,000 votes have been cast in the Best of Silver State Restaurants & Lounges Awards, and the winners will be revealed at a special ceremony from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Sands Showroom inside The Venetian Las Vegas. Top restaurants, lounges and chefs will be honored at the event, which is sponsored by TMG Entertainment in partnership with the Nevada Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NvRAEF).

The night will begin at 5 p.m. with a silent auction and Champagne reception with passed hors d’oeuvres hosted by The Venetian and Moet Hennessey and the one-hour awards ceremony will commence at 6 p.m. Celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse will be a special guest presenter and the awards ceremony hosts will be Dayna Roselli, Nina Radetich, and Robin Leach.

Nominees in seventeen categories were selected by a distinguished nominating committee, comprised of industry professionals and notable figures in the community. The winners were decided by a public vote which closed Dec. 2.

In addition several notables will be honored with special awards. The “Visionary Award” will be presented to Chef Kerry Simon, Sirio Maccioni will receive the “Pioneer Award” and the “Industry Champion Award” will be presented to Alex Stokes.

At the start of the new year oncologists at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) have taken a look back at 2012 to identify the year’s top 10 advancements in cancer research. Jeffrey Chen, MD, radiation oncologist; Robert Wascher, MD, surgical oncologist; and Madappa Kundranda, MD, PhD medical oncologist at CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center worked together to identify and rank the following top 10 cancer breakthroughs for 2012.

“Every year there are incredible breakthroughs in cancer screening, prevention, research treatments and therapies, says Robert Wascher, MD, surgical oncologist.” “Before every case of cancer can be prevented or cured, CTCA® is hopeful that these advancements will help to save the lives of the millions of people who are diagnosed with cancer each year.”

CTCA has identified the following as the Top 10 Advancements in Cancer Research for 2012:

1. Personalized Cancer Medicine: An increasing number of groundbreaking “targeted” cancer therapies are available. This new generation of cancer therapies is able to block abnormal genes or proteins that cause cancer cells to grow and spread.

2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves the first breast ultrasound specifically designed for dense breast tissue. Dense breast tissue can increase breast cancer risk, and can make it difficult to identify small breast cancers once they occur (40% of women who undergo screening mammograms have dense breasts).

3. Computerized cognitive training that may be able to improve “chemo brain,” a term that refers to the cognitive problems women suffer during and after cancer treatment. This form of therapy may help to improve memory and mental health. (Clinical study published in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

4. Evidence that higher levels of vitamin D may improve survival in patients with breast cancer. (2012 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium)

5. Preoperative chemotherapy and radiation therapy double overall survival for esophageal and gastroesophageal junction cancers. Researchers report that preoperative treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy resulted in significant benefits: 29% of patients experienced complete remission of their cancer; median overall survival was longer (49 months versus 24 months), and the death rate was 35% lower in patients who underwent preoperative treatment compared with those who had surgery alone. (Clinical study published in The New England Journal of Medicine)

6. The identification of four distinct genetic types of breast cancer, which could accelerate the search for better treatments for each of these subtypes of breast cancer, instead of the “one size fits all” approach to cancer treatment. (Research from the Cancer Genome Atlas, part of the National Institutes of Health)

7. A new vaccine has been tested for advanced kidney cancer, and early results suggest that this vaccine may increase survival. (Developed by Dr. Howard Kaufman, formerly at Columbia University and now at Mount Sinai University)

8. Two new cancer drugs, ziv-aflibercept (Zaltrap) and regorafenib (Stivarga), were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. These new “targeted” cancer drugs offer patients with advanced colorectal cancer important new treatment options.

9. A new “smart bra” has shown to be more than 90% accurate at detecting breast abnormalities using sensors to detect small changes in breast tissue temperature over time, based upon preliminary research data. In three clinical trials involving a total of 650 women, the bra was able to detect the presence of breast tumors as many as six years before conventional breast imaging would have. (Developed and being tested by Nevada company, First Warning Systems. At this time, this device is not yet approved for sale in the United States, and additional research will need to be carried out before the findings of preliminary studies can be validated.)

10. The Baylor College of Medicine, Australian Pancreatic Center Genome Initiative, and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research Pancreatic Cancer Genome Study recently carried out detailed genetic studies on 99 pancreatic cancer tumors, and identified almost 2,000 specific gene mutations associated with this deadly form of cancer. This detailed genetic information may lead to important new discoveries related to both the prevention and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

UFC Champ Dominick Cruz to be Honorary Pace Car Driver for the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500


Race to air Sunday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX

The Ultimate Fighting Championship®’s bantamweight champion, and one of this season’s The Ultimate Fighter® Live coaches, Dominick Cruz, is headed to Phoenix to act as Honorary Pace Car Driver for the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ on Sunday, March 4 at Phoenix International Raceway.

The champ will participate in pre-race ceremonies and will make appearances onsite at PIR. The race is slated to air at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

Cruz then heads back to Las Vegas to kick off his newest challenge as head coach of Team Cruz on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter® Live, premiering on FX on March 9, with a special two-and-a-half-hour LIVE premiere airing at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, and tape-delayed on the Pacific and Mountaintime zones at 9 p.m. PT/10 p.m. MT.

3rd annual event on Las Vegas Strip
Set for March 3 to raise money for children with cancer

Nine Fine Irishmen at New York-New York Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip invites the public to go bald during the 3rd Annual St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 1 p.m. – 11 p.m. People of all ages are invited to attend the festive outdoor event, where the bravest volunteers will shave their heads on the Brooklyn Bridge to raise money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation for Cancer Research and bring attention to the many children battling cancer.
“Shaving your head is a very compassionate way to show support for those who are fighting this deadly disease.  Every year I look forward to shaving my head and showing my solidarity,” said Michael Kennedy, executive director of food & beverage at New York-New York. “In the past we have had such a great turnout but there is still more work to be done. This year we are looking to make a larger impact by setting a goal to raise $100,000 to help shave the way to a cure.”
Over the past two years, 290 people have raised more than $124,000 at Nine Fine Irishmen during St. Baldrick’s Day events. Prior to event day, shavees can raise money by forming a team and requesting donations through the St. Baldrick’s website or an individual can simply register at the event with the $50 minimum required donation. As a thank you for participating, shavees receive a free pint of Guinness or a Jameson Cocktail (must be 21 years or older) from Nine Fine Irishmen along with a goody bag that includes a complimentary rollercoaster ride, t-shirt and hat as well as other special offers.
