Pop Sensations R5 Opened New Year’s Shows at The Venetian Las Vegas,
Dec. 29

Pop powerhouse quintet R5 kicked off their New Year’s concerts at The Venetian Las Vegas on Tuesday, Dec. 29. “Dancing with the Stars” fan favorite Mark Ballas opened the show with his newly formed band Alexander Jean, followed by an electrifying DJ set by R5 brother Ryland Lynch, which geared up the fans for a night of energizing hits from the pop rock sensations.

R5 performed in front of an enthusiastic crowd who sang along to their chart-topping hits such as “Smile,” “Cali Girls,” and “I Want You Bad.” The concert was extra joyous because lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Ross Lynch celebrated his 20th birthday in front of an audience of his most loyal fans.

“Welcome to my birthday party” exclaimed the heartthrob, before taking fans through a spirited set list which also included homages to Las Vegas favorites Frank Sinatra and The Killers.

Ross ended the show with some words of wisdom, “Life goes by so fast and you have to appreciate every single second of it.”

R5 will perform on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 1 at 8 p.m. Tickets are now on sale and available by purchase at www.venetian.com or by calling (702) 414-9000 or (866) 641-7469.

Las Vegas Academy Students Create Marquee Motion Graphics for Stratosphere Casino

Las Vegas Academy Students Design First New Year Motion Graphics for Stratosphere Marquee

Las Vegas Academy (LVA) graphic design students are helping spread New Year’s greetings along the Las Vegas Strip.

Special motion graphics created by three LVA students was recently selected as the winner in a design competition and will be displayed on the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower’s marquee on New Year’s Eve just as fireworks launch off the Tower to welcome in the new year. This is the first time animation composed by local students has ever appeared on the Stratosphere’s marquee.

This is the third design project created specifically for the Stratosphere by LVA students. The projects give students “real world” experience in submitting designs, meeting with clients and presenting their final project. All student teams were a combination of second and third year design students. Many of them plan to pursue a graphic design career.

The winning animation was created by Morgan Black, Lasca Stafford and Tara Tran. The Stratosphere presented each of the three winners with a one year subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud. The winners and all those who submitted a design also received a Tower Pass good at the Stratosphere, tickets for Big Shot, X Scream and Insanity, the world’s highest thrill rides and a buffet for two. The public can view the winning motion graphics at Midnight on New Year’s Eve on the Stratosphere’s marquee during the fireworks. On New Year’s Day, the winning motion graphics, along with all the motion graphics submitted in the contest, will also be played throughout the day.

“The students would never have gained such great accomplishments if the assignment for motion graphics was only for class,” said Ashley Stroud, Graphic Design teacher at LVA. “They are really proud and excited that everyone’s video will be played on New Year’s Day.”

“It’s every artist’s dream to have their work displayed publicly. In this case, it’ll be seen by thousands on the Las Vegas Strip’s most iconic property and on one of the busiest nights of the year,” said Paul Hobson, Vice President, General Manager Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower.

Rolling Stone proclaimed Imagine Dragons “the biggest breakout of the year” and Entertainment Weekly called 2013 the “Year of the Dragons” while Billboard noted, “Imagine Dragons are rock’s 2013 live breakout.” The band also just released via iTunes their new film, The Making Of Night Visions, a live documentary that chronicles the recording of the platinum-certified album.

Local Vegas awards include “Best CD of 2011” (Vegas Seven), “Best Local Indie Band 2010” (Las Vegas Weekly), and “Las Vegas’ Newest Must See Live Act” (Las Vegas CityLife).

Las Vegas’ Legendary Nightspot Ghostbar at Palms Casino Resort Receives Sleek Makeover Just in Time for Return of Ghostbar Dayclub

Enter to Win the Ultimate Ghostbar Experience at the Season Three Launch of GBDC on Facebook.com/PalmsCasinoResort

Ghostbar, the legendary boutique nightclub located on the 55th floor of the Ivory Tower at Palms Casino Resort, has a whole new look just in time for the return of Sin City’s most energizing daylife extravaganza. Ghostbar Dayclub (GBDC), the cold-weather answer to Vegas’ wildly popular pool parties, launches its third season on Oct. 19 in the newly renovated ultra-lounge, promising to amp up its exuberant daytime escapades to match the sleek and sexy new look of the hot spot that elevated Palms to the spotlight of Las Vegas nightlife.

“With a high-energy entertainment, nonstop celebrity sightings, and unparalleled views of the Strip, Ghostbar has become one of the most recognizable names in Las Vegas nightlife,” said Chuck Oliverio, General Manager and Vice President of 9Group. “The Ghostbar remodel is a Vegas must-see and we are excited to introduce its sexy, new look just in time for the return of our famed GBDC parties.”

Part of the $50 million renovation that has transformed Palms, the new Ghostbar has been given a head-to-toe makeover in a palette of black, white and striking fuschia. With dramatic Murano-style chandeliers, smooth leather banquettes with ornate wood carved legs, 14-foot floor-to-ceiling windows and its signature panoramic views of the Strip surrounded by lush greenery on the skydeck, Ghostbar’s new look brings it back to the upper echelon of Las Vegas nightlife. Transforming from an open-seating lounge to a high-energy hot spot nightly, provocative and ornately embellished, Ghostbar’s makeover is more than skin deep. In addition to traditional bottle service, Ghostbar introduces an exclusive Rosé champagne cocktail menu, along with all-new savory hookah offerings.

Finished just in time for the launch of what’s become Las Vegas’ most talked-about cold-weather day party, Palms kicks off GBDC Season Three by giving guests the opportunity to win the ultimate Ghostbar and GBDC experience. Now through Monday, Oct. 7, social media mavens can show off their creative side in Palms’ “What’s Your GBDC” contest, where the grand prize winner who creates the most playful word collage from the first letters of the GBDC acronym will score complimentary admission, a VIP table with a piñata, brown bagged 40-ounce malt liquor beverages, cheeseburgers, GBDC swag and a complimentary one night stay in a beautiful Ivory Suite. Two runners up will also receive complimentary admission, brown bagged 40-ounce malt liquor beverages and GBDC swag. Users can enter online at Facebook.com/PalmsCasinoResort. The top 12 entries will be open for fan vote on Monday, Oct. 7, with the winners being announced on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 19, GBDC takes over Ghostbar every Saturday at 1 p.m. Over the last two years, the whimsical, no-holds-barred weekly party has become known for its costumed party-goers, oversized piñatas filled with grownup goodies, spontaneous champagne showers, surprise performances, confetti explosions, wild bottle presentations, gorgeous go-go dancers and unabashed variety of brews and spirits – everything from brown bagged 40s to an oversized group shot-ski.
